Volodymyr Zelenskyy's full 60 Minutes interview in Ukrainian

Language translation is more art than science. Different translators have varied opinions of words and their meaning. For our interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, we used the services of three, independent, interpreters of the Ukrainian language. The first translation occurred in the moment, simultaneously, during the interview. Later, a second translator watched the entire interview on video and translated Ukrainian to English verbatim. In the final editing process, a third translator sat with us and verified the edits that are always necessary for clarity and concision. At some points in our story, when phrases in English and Ukrainian did not match each other in length, we made the best effort possible to convey Mr. Zelenskyy's comments with precision and context. As a service to Ukrainian speakers, we are posting the hour-long, April 7th interview in its entirety. Our report with English translation can be found here: • Volodymyr Zelenskyy: T...

  • I have come to respect this man more than any other leader in my 6 1/2 decades on this planet. Not just as a leader but as a human being. I have been following him everywhere since day one and I’ve listened to everyone of his pleas. The inner strength and fortitude of the Ukrainian people is extraordinary and I am beyond grateful that he is their leader during this horrific time. However on the other hand I am furious at my country, the US, that has made a myriad of promises and have yet to deliver what they proclaim they say they have. I see that other countries are dragging their feet too. As far as as the no fly zone I am as furious as everybody else. Myopic shortsighted thinking. And something that could cost Ukraine and eventually whoever put it decides to target next. It won’t end with Ukraine. If we had responded on day two and got the military aid to them within days this would’ve never escalated this far. Tragically, we can’t go back in time but watching this extraordinary man and humanitarian during these unprecedented times shouldn’t have to continue to plead with nations that have the resources that he has specifically asked for. Thoughts and prayers and well wishes are lovely and energetically help but you don’t stand a chance if that’s all you have against a Russian army. He has not asked once for boots on the ground support. Just weapons, the right ones, for his army and relief for his citizens. If the global community blows this off and doesn’t pay attention and act swiftly there will be a heavy price to pay in a world that will no longer be recognizable in 10 years from now. And with blood on everyone’s hands that weren’t brave enough to do the right thing and give them the opportunity. #IStandWithUkraine SLAVA UKRAINI ✊🏼🇺🇦💙💛🙏🏼☮️🌻

And walking the streets, whenever we see someone w/ a Yellow/Blue pin/clothing item such as we wear, we no longer greet them w/ a standard "Ciao" or "Buongiorno", but w/ "Slava Ukraini!" and "Heroyam Slava!" -- words which a few months ago meant nothing to us yet.

Ukrianian civilians have told western journalists that the russians were not the ones massacring civilians it is the NOT SEE battalions and militias of ukraine killing anyone and their families accusing them of being deserters. Ukraine has the highest desertion rates on earth because many of them dont want to ethnically cleanse east ukraine or fight russians. I believe he was naïve when he started as a president. Not knowing the game of politics. Zelensky in this interview has shown restraint in his words as he is feeling so much pain. He has said very harsh things towards NATO or not diplomatic but it has worked because it the truth. NATO or Europe has United. Zelensky is also leading a way that many of us would like to led by building relationship with us and not leading us by their titles or position. When we are led by position we have to but when we led to be understood by our leaders then we want to follow. Zelensky has also now has understood the game of politics and how deceitful it is.

  • They have received 14 billion of tax payers money. The fact that the aid was written into our spending budget is just as ridiculous. Ukraine aid should have been voted on separately. This war is happening Europe which means Europe should be doing the heavy lifting not the USA tax payer. Enough with sending money every where. 95% of our tax dollars should be spent within our boarders. We need to cut off every country’s usa tax payer aid and USA military aid start over again. Every country in the Middle East including Israel should be completely cut off first.
