Armenia, Azerbaijan leaders argue in front of Putin at Moscow meeting
The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia argued openly in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in testy exchanges that underlined the extent of their dispute over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
During a meeting in Moscow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan raised the issue of the Lachin corridor while Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev listened to his concerns with a smirk, before Putin closed off the conversation, noting that the topic was sensitive.
"We will now have the opportunity, as we agreed, to talk about everything calmly in a businesslike manner in a trilateral format," Putin said before turning to other matters.

You know what, this is something I like to see, people having honest discussions. Very different from the staged collective west meetings where everybody already knows the next line, all they have to do is follow the script they were given. Kudos to Putin, to Russia for striving for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. 👏
well they kinda didn't agree
The incidents on the border with Azerbaijan, when the Russian Federation and Russia’s CSTO military bloc refused to fulfill their obligations to protect the sovereign territory of their ally, became a cause for discontent on the Armenian side. Another pain point for Armenia is the inaction of the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh to protect the Armenian population. Russia’s position is considered by a significant part of the Armenian society, politicians and analysts as incompatible with the status of a strategic ally. This is hardly a sign of cooperation.
Kudos to Putin? He has been letting armenia down over the last years, the nationalists of both countrys hate each other, but azerbeijan is in strong alignment with trukey, where they get weapons and drones, aswell as - believe it or not - Israel, because they have big tensions with Iran about an azerbeijan minority living in northern Iran, and Israel is just following an "enemy of my enemy is my firend" logic. Armenia on the other side has had only russia who were watching over their interest. But this protection has been weakened due to most of Russias military forces beeing engaged in Ukraine, enabeling azerbeijan to annex territory in armenia. Azerbeijan sits on vast oil and gas reserves, that brought them ahead of armenia in terms of economy, military and international relations. If armenia, which is still a democratic country and mostly a christian nation by the way, looses russias protection, azerbeijan might invade them soon. And Azerbejan is under control of the deeply corrupt Alief regime for 2 generations, since the illegal dissolution of the USSR.
even the freakin EU is on Azerbejans side in this conflict, because of course they are more interested in buying cheap gas then wheter a state has some form of democratic gouvernemnt or is led by an autocratic corrupt family dynasty
@@pedromeneses9617 this is my personal opinion, I am not fully Armenian and have never lived there so I can’t speak for Armenians, but I think part of Russia’s action indirectly has to do with armenia seeking closer relations with the US or Europe. I don’t know, this is what I suspect

Can kim Kardashian not solve this? Give one butt cheek to each country....also no one cares about talking over putin
I just want to say that this situation is extremely sad and complicated. There's no clear answer on how to solve this issue. The 1st Karabakh war should have never happened. I understand why it happened, but the whole idea of transferring territory from AzerbaijanSSR to ArmeniaSSR just because we made up the majority of the population never made any sense to me unless AzerbaijanSSR gave its consent to cede its territory to ArmeniaSSR. But let's be real for a second. Which country would want to give up its land? No country at all. This war was simply by a land grab opportunity. In the US, there's a significant Armenian community in Glendale CA, Detroit MI, and Watertown MA. Would it be right to demand the US to transfer those territories to Armenia? No. (Although our GDP and economy would surpass any country in the region haha). Truth be told, Karabakh has been home to many people not just Armenians. In recent history before the formation of the USSR, the territory has been ruled by the Russians, Persians, and Ottomans. Wars happen, borders change. Now that we live in modern times, the age of border changes are over. Let's just retain our territories from the Soviet period and call it a day.
Persians never ruled
@@Afshar1.how do you know that?

good good , but if you think Azerbaïdjan will stop at that you are naïve , it's simple : they want you to not exist . Once Azerbaïdjan take what they want , Turkey will have the green light to finish the "job" .
This is not a fair argument. Who has the right to set when territories can no longer be changed? The native Armenian people of this territory should have the right to choose where they want to live! You have situations like in Kosovo where if Serbia would take control of Kosovo again, 2 million Albanians would be slaughtered and forever expelled within a year.

I’m going to assume it’s common for older citizens of Armenian and Azerbaijan to be fluent in Russian?? It’s awesome to see different leaders of different countries communicate without someone translating
For the most part, citizens of almost all former soviet republics speak russian
In that part of the world, the russian languade is the universal language in the same way as english is in the west.

That's Arguing?!?😂LoL.. Imagine that kind of dialogue taking place in the US ..
There is huge difference between United States and Russia mentality. Showing whatever emotions is considered as weakness since it can be ruthlessly exploited against you. If you are affected by anger or simply agitated you can't think rationally and therefore not fit for making rational decisions. Leaders must be confident, unwavering and sharp.
There more if u watch a full video, some where it was even funny.
Armenia and Azerbaijan had a large war recently.

They’re Elites. They don’t represent their peoples
People in here really need to chill and stop seeing what they want to see instead of what really is going on. Leader of Armenia politely excused for interrupting in the middle of his speech, to which Putin turned to him and said a sentence that can be translated as "i am listening". Just in a more non formal, friendly way by saying "Yes? Please, you may continue. There was no shock, nothing. It was simply a way to show that "i am listening, i do care, please continue". That's all there is. His goal here is to help them to move closer to each other. Which is why he showed his full attention and didn't even bothered to continue his speech to show this attention.
❤
His goal is to gain influence. He backed Armenia in their war with Azerbaijan which led to the annexation of Azerbaijan territory. As for politeness, they are in a formal setting, not small room where everyone freely chimes in adhoc. You can tell that Putin was taken by surprise with the interruption. Nevertheless, as a statesman should, he went with the flow. After all, he is not talking to his Russian subordinates, he is hosting a meeting with regional Presidents.
This would be true in a modern democracy, but this is not the case with Russia. Putin is supposed to be an all powerful dictator, him being interrupted is important.
Too bad he’s not being as polite, caring and willing to listen regarding the much bigger conflict which he started.
I agree. He has a huge interest in ending their conflict and securing both as future allies. He also needs his troops back home.
