  • My niece had the EXACT SAME eye condition. We all wore ski goggles and cool shades in support. She LOVED it and even started a trend in her class (first grade). Poppy is much younger and will have no problems.

  • My niece has had glasses for most of her life, she’s 7 now. Top tips- get a case, get 2 pairs of you can (we haven’t lost one yet but it’s nice to have a spare pair), we rewarded her for wearing them until she could tolerate a whole day with them. She’s graduated from the full strap ones to like legit itty bitty real glasses and is the cutest thing ever! It’ll take time, pay and repetition but you’ll get there.

  • I got glasses at 2 and a half for pretty much the same reason as Poppy. My mom was terrified I would hate them but I actually refused to take them off because I loved seeing the world! It may take her a few days to adjust to the actual frame but after a few days she’ll hopefully love it like I did! ❤

  • You’re such wonderful parents 🥰 my best friend had a similar issue when she was a little kiddo, her eyes were turning towards each other and her parents also got glasses and then a procedure done. She remembers hating the glasses and everything she had to go through. But she has three kids of her own and now appreciates and understands her parents doing this for her so much more. Poppy will definitely also be so grateful for you making this choice for her, even if now she isn’t always happy she has to wear glasses. All love for the entire family 🥰

  • All 3 of my girls started in glasses very young. 2 of them were 2 years, the 3rd was 4. I made sure to ALWAYS get the breakage /loss/ damage protection and two pairs at a time when ever possible. I always let them pick out the frames they liked. Poppy looks adorable in her new glasses!

  • She is so sweet! My youngest has strabismus in her left eye and we never knew what that was when she was Poppy’s age. She would turn her eye inward to be funny and we would laugh. It wasn’t until her 5 year appointment when they tested her vision that we found out. We patched and she got glasses and it has stabilized now. When poppy gets a bit older I would recommend letting her help pick out her frames. That’s what we did. Since our daughter had to wear them, she got to pick out the color and I even ordered patches that she picked- making her a part of the choice helped when she was little. ❤

  • Same situation here! We had noticed my daughter had an eye that was turning in , she got glasses at 15 months old. She had the little string attached and now she’s almost two and doesn’t need it anymore because she keeps them on. The doctor told us her weaker eye was getting better with her glasses on and she has straight eyes with the glasses on. She will probably need them all her life and will be able to wear contacts or get corrective surgery when she gets older (18).

  • I noticed my daughter having something going on with her eyes already around 6months after she was born. It was never a hard thing to make my daughter wear her glasses because she loved to see things better. She have thick glass so the difference is very noticeable for her. The first time she tried her glasses she bend down slowly to touch the ground and she took steps as if the ground made of finest glass. It looked as if she saw a completely new work for the first time. After that she did not run into furnitures any more. To see a baby make those reactions is so heart breaking and makes you think of all the children who might not be as lucky to have glasses. To wear your glasses is very important to not developed crossed eyes, worse vision, symptoms and stress in the brain. The doctors cared to check our daughter eyes at age of 1.5years but they also let the child develop along the way in aspects of wanting to participate and communication development, to be ready for each steps of "treatments and examinations". My daughter had her first glasses when she turned 2.5years old but first at the age of 5 she got the absolute right once for her actual needs. We even had to move to an other region in our country to be able to have the correct glass for her glasses. She have astigmatism in both eyes which requires glasses and she have lazy eye in right eye which requires eye patch 3-4times/week for 4hours each time. And in her right eye she even have something called DS duanes syndrom. I have never even heard of it before I had my daughter. It causes her only to not be able to move the right eye out to the right side. So she learned by time to compensate it with turning her head instead of only turning the eyes. She is now 7 and everything works fine in life for her, the older she gets the more kids respect her glasses also. When it comes to eye patches there are different types to choose from but the sticker once are most preferred by the doctors since they make the best covering for the eye. Good luck and feel safe with the doctors who work with childrens eyes ❤️ And do not be affraid to ask them if you have questions or you hit struggles. They use to know a lot of good ways with children and they really have a job to help children for their future. Do not walk around worried or building fights with your daughter over wearing the glasses. We always baught our daughter a fun present every time we went to the eye doctor and had something nice to eat or drink. They do not get spoiled by that. And plan the time well the day you see the doctor so you dont make it all stressful. ❤️ You can even play and wear own glasses youself. "If we wear the glasses we can enter the unicorn land, and then acting as if you discover things" depending on thickness of glass you can do things where the glasses makes it easier. For some it might be blurry on distance or blurry up close. To paint can work and be adjustable activity. Best of luck ❤️

  • Omgosh! I swear babies in glasses are as THE SWEETEST thing ever! 😍😍😍 Poppy looks so stinking cute!! She will get used to it after a while. We actually have a few babies in our family with glasses and all of the parents did the reward system for keeping them on. Took a little time, but they did well with keeping them on after a couple months 😀

  • I was born with one eye turning in and up. It was pretty severe.I had to wear glasses my whole life until I stopped growing(hoping it would correct itself, since it’s a hereditary thing..and it normally corrected on its own, but not for me😂) I’ve had 2 surgeries since then and I no longer wear glasses! It still turns in a little when I get tired but I’m thankful for my little weak eye😂 and for the lessons it’s taught me. Character building is always a good thing. 💪🏼

  • My niece had to have them and it’s amazing how cooperative she was at such a young age. I think they must realize they help them or something. Anyway if you’re just cool about it and laid back but consistent I’m sure she will be fine with them too. One of my sons had a lazy eye and he had to have laser surgery when he was little. I don’t remember it very much though. (Never think you’ll forget moments until your 60+ and you realize you you’ve forgotten moments!) Write down everything in journals that you do not want to forget. Videos and pics are fine but digital can break down and unless you write on the back of the photograph you could still forget the details so journaling is always a great way to keep a record. Baby books too.

Also just be consistent putting them on her when she gets up and having a special place for her to put them on a special stand at night. Before u know it she will be getting up and putting them on herself! Sending love ❤ and she looks adorable in them!!!

  • My son went through this when he was young and we did the exact same route with glasses at first. He adapted well but he was about 2-1/2 when he wore them. We eventually had to do strabismus surgery and they went it and cut the muscle in the lazy eye to match the other eye so they were even and everything went well. It helped that we were at Mayo Clinic and our pediatric ophthalmologist had done thousands of this type of surgery so that put me at ease. He is now 15 years old and still wears glasses (could do contacts if he wanted) and I’m so glad that we went that route-never regretted it for a moment! And who does not love a little child in glasses?? It’s by far the CUTEST thing in the world. She will do great and look fabulous!! Stay strong and keep trusting your gut 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  • My daughter was born with one lid dropping a bit and it has caused her left eye to turn in and her vision to worsen. We just went through the same thing as you and our 18 month old now has glasses full time and patching 2 hours a day. The first few days of glasses were really tough but getting her out of the house and trying to put them on (she goes to daycare) she wore them all day because there was so much to see and she was distracted. Its been a few weeks now and she loves them. We also put glasses on her dolls and wore our glasses more ourselves and picked books and movies with characters with glasses (turning red, encanto). It’s a tough thing as a parent to go through but you’re doing the best you can by helping her! Great job :)

She has worn glasses since she was 1. It was very hard getting her to keep them on. But i just kept putting them back on and saying your eyes need these and after about 6 months she didnt have any problems with her glasses. She is almost 5 and still wears glasses. I found the best brand was nano. Good luck with everything

  • I was diagnosed with Strabismus at 4 months old and have been in glasses ever since (I’m 28 now). I HATED the glasses with the strap when I was little, but didn’t have an issue with the glasses that had the rubber ear pieces - they have a little more friction than plastic so they sit pretty snug and don’t slide around too much. I also had the issue of one eye being weaker - they patched my strong eye to help the weaker one catch up. I still wear glasses, but it’s never been a bad experience! She’ll love the uniqueness of her baby pictures having her tiny glasses in them (:

  • I don’t ever comment on anything but I couldn’t help myself, this touched home for me. My parents didn’t realize I had sight issues until I was about 3-3.5 y/o. Turned out I had detached retinas, and received surgery at 4 years old. My parents were absolutely devastated that they didn’t see it sooner; I’m 30 and they still get upset when they talk about it. Once they received my diagnosis, much of my behavior made sense (I got frustrated very easily). After my surgery, I was immediately given glasses and for about 5-6 months I had to wear an eye patch over one lens on my glasses. I remember more than one would expect during this time, it was a huge adjustment both physically and mentally, but my parents’ constant support, love, and more importantly, patience is what I remember more. My mom has kept every single pair of glasses I owned as a kid, and even the eye patches too (ha!). I recall a lot of my childhood through which pair of glasses I was wearing at the time, which I love. All that said, you and Poppy are doing great! Just keep the patience and give her all the confidence you can, she’ll grow to love them. Best of luck!

  • I had the exact issues as a toddler. A couple years later the doctor started patching my strong eye as the weak one was shutting down, even with glasses. My strong eye was patched on and off for years. I remember hardly seeing with one eye near blind. It worked. My eye jumpstarted, kept working, and the lazy eye drift corrected. I didn’t need eye surgery. And my schoolwork became stellar. I have a cousin who didn’t have eye correction. As an adult she has one wandering eye still. I am grateful for early glasses and eye patching.

  • Hey guys! Our daughter (who is 8 now) had this issue (amblyopia and esotropia) in her left eye - which started at about 18 months. We started with glasses, and then started patching the strong eye, and eventually moved to bifocals. We did the patching, no patching, patching for a few years until they decided that surgery was her best option. She had eye surgery (they said it was strabismus repair) and it has dramatically improved. She’s out of bifocals and I’m regular glasses. The one thing I will say - when they see better with the glasses and it’s less strenuous for them to see, they will wear the glasses and keep them on! And find a great pediatric ophthalmologist in your area!

  • Good for your mom instincts. A friend noticed his baby/toddler one eye would appear with white spot in the pupil of all photos. Took to dr. (Regular pediatrician was not in) was told eye was fine. Turns out parents instincts were right, saw another dr only to find out had cancerous tumor behind eye. Eye had to be removed. Poppy looks so cute in her glasses.

  • She looks SO ADORABLE!!! As a mom to a kiddo in glasses I know you have probably heard this but I’m saying it again. Get two back up pairs. That way if a pair brakes or gets lost you have a pair for right away and another pair just in case for while you order and wait on another pair . We have had to use that emergency pair before 😂😂😂 Even if the back ups are less expensive pairs from zenni! Good Luck Mom and Dad! You’ve Got This❤

  • I was born with both eyes turned into my nose! I’ve had glasses since about a year old. You’ve got it early so hopefully they are able to correct it quickly. ❤️ I’ve had four surgeries because of my turn, hopefully that won’t need to happen. She looks absolutely adorable with her little glasses 🥰

  • Hi! I’ve worn glasses since I was 3 and have a similar story. I’m also thankful for my parents care but I wish they would have tried natural eye strenghtening methods first or that Endmyopia was around when I was a child. I feel like there is always a chance that glasses can be avoided. Although they are necessary when nothing better is around, usually it’s like a bandaid on a problem. I know that some, even after years of wearing glasses & having bad vision, succeeded in transforming it for better or even 20/20. I’m on the path too, but my vision is quite bad and steady so I know it will take a while.
