Using a foam cannon and snow foam is a part of the pre-wash stage, to help encapsulate and lift dirt and debris off the surface, allowing you to rinse and minimize the chances of marring the surface during the contact wash with your wash mitt.
A snow foam is also a great way to add lubrication on the painted surfaces, again minimizing the chances of getting swirls and scratches during the contact wash.

Hi Pan, I’m the guy that couldn’t get my ceramic coating to perform properly. You advised me to buy Tw pure and it really works. Thanks
Cool. Glad to hear!
@Pan The Organizer Hi Pan I think you should drive another car during the winter months if you can. It definitely saves you from big cleaning jobs during winter, which I hate.
Such a useful comparison to see! Thank you Pan for all the time and effort you put into these well thought out videos.
Thanks Shanna!
Once again, this video really emphasises the importance of pre treatment/pre rinsing especially during the winter months🙌. Stellar work Pan as always👌🏻
Correct! 👍🏻
@@PanTheOrganizer 👍🏻❤️
Pan...LOVE these direct product comparisons! Great video!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Another great video Pan! I like the attention to detail also! I'd like to to se a comparison of the Gsf with Gs added and see how that compares to a high PH foam!
Thanks!
I just discovered your channel and I can't stop watching your videos. I am a newbie to car detailing but your videos really gave me the bug, I ordered a lot of products already from your recommendations, I can't wait to receive everything and start my first full car detailing. Also, I stumbled on your video and didn't realize you were from Montreal before I watched a few videos. Maybe one day, I can shake your hand and thank you for all the good advices. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words! How did you discover my channel by the way Webbi? Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZhead as we surpassed 880,000 subscribers and we have over 112 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing.
I love how your are in tune with the common consumer in this particular case you address, which one cleaned better but you also state that the one that cleans better isn’t necessarily the one you want to use as part of your weekly wash. just some great basic information that others don’t seem to address… Thank you!
Thank you!
Epic comparison. Definitive. Great video & definitely the kind I love. Pan the Man!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!! 😁👍🏻
Another great video Pan! Never fail to disappoint
Thanks!!
Great content and very informative videos hope you are feeling better pan 👍 i always enjoy watching a master at work !!
Thanks!
Hi Pan, I've learned so much from you. You are very comprehensive and obviously do your homework in predicting what concerns viewers might have, thank you! Do you think using a higher dilution for Bilt Hamber Touch-Less would lower it's PH rating for more regular use? I have limited space, live in snow/salt area and trying to find multi use products, using Touch-Less two or three times a year at it's price and volume it comes in doesn't seem practical for me. Maybe Active Foam for regular use at PH 9 is a nice middle ground? Any suggestions?
Great detailed explanations and demonstrations again Pan!
Thanks!!
Great demonstration of two very good products. The Bilt cost a lot more to use but it also does a lot more work and saves time. Your Porsche is looking brand new still and hopefully with better weather you can enjoy the driving experience. Thank you for a very informative video and I hope your doing well!
Thanks Neil. I enjoy every second of driving that beast, even in winter months. ;)
If my career was focused on washing/detailing cars, I would certainly spend all this kind of time on my vehicles! But it is certainly good to know this info for purpose of selecting regular services from a vehicle detailer. Keep up the good work for all us "normal people"! 👏
Thanks!
Would have loved to see you use the higher ph snow foam on the other side after the neutral one to see how much more it could have taken off.
Another great video Pan! I’m curious about what kind of rustproofing treatment would you recommend for the Canadian winter? I’m also in Quebec so we have multiple options: Krown, Prolab, Ziebart etc… Oil based vs paraffin etc. A 911 Turbo S in Canadian winter 🤘🏻 Keep it clean 👌🏻
I use adams mega foam in my cannon then I use carpro reset. It really does a great job keeping my ceramic coat clean and contentment free
I was honestly thinking about soap and ph levels when I woke up this morning, Pan with the impeccable timing.
It’s like I read your mind 😂👍🏻
Very informative, thank you for this video!
Thanks!
Thanks for this video again Pan! I'm loving BH Autofoam, so much cleaning power for a prewash already. Touchless seems to be a bit better in several reviews, so will test that one aswell if my 5L of autofoam is empty :)! BTW. I'm not a really Porsche fan, if i had the money to buy one, i would go for some other brands. But man, this car looks amazing! So sporty, so clean and shiney and i really love the color!
Thanks for the feedback!
I just started doing apc pre-washes as part of my routine (especially for post winter washes) and the difference vs just pre rinsing is crazy! I'd like to see a comparison in using apc vs rinseless vs snow foam as pre washes
Thanks for watching!
Nice review Pan that is exactly my findings I started using Bilt Hamber last year and I will not go back to anything else it just works I'm in Michigan so I understand the snow and the salt. I was using the GSF I don't understand all the hype I didn't think it worked that great just my personal opinion.
Gsf is very good for lubrication, but isn’t meant to deep clean like Bilt Hamber.
Thank -you for sharing your experience in this field , I listen and learn ....thanks again , Sir.
Thanks Patrick!
Thanks Pan for another awesome and informative video
Thanks Eamon!
Good video thanks. As an ex-valeter and hobby detailer, I have used many snow foams. I now only use Bilt Hamber foam, and some of their other products too. They are not only as good as anything else available, they are usually cheaper too.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience with it Nik! Which one do you prefer, and why? Touch-Less or Auto-Foam?
@@PanTheOrganizer I can see the slight difference with touchless, and understand why some people might use it. But, personally, the auto foam is slightly cheaper, and for me, works just as well (I never let my car get too dirty anyway). For salt/grime winter dirt removal, it might not be the absolute best, but any foam is going to struggle on it's own, and we would use something like a citrus pre cleaner before the foam to break that down. I really rate BH auto wheel too, and being a bit obsessive with wheel cleaning I tried at least 20 wheel cleaners. BH not only seems to be the most reactive fallout remover (turns a darker red than most of the others), it also turns colour quicker, and on top of that, does actually have some detergent in as well which is an effective cleaner. They should sponsor me really !!!
Great review, Pan….especially the final comments, since both types have a place. 👍
Thanks!
Great demo on the snow foams ❄. This proves the difference!! I love bilt hamber products!! I never mind spending the money if you get the proven result you want.
Thank you!
Very interesting video Pan with right products at the right time Thanks
Thanks Steph!
Encore une super vidéo. Merci Pan.
Merci!
Holy moly! Extremely eye opening. Thanks Pan! I’ll have to adjust my pre wash process :)
Thanks!
Excellent Video Pan thanks for all your hard work you put into these videos much appreciated. I just wanted some advice/clarification, I just had my new golf R fully clear wrapped PPF and applied a Ceramic Coating on top. Which product Auto Foam / Touchless is best to use? What would be the main difference between them and when would you use one over the other? Would it be safe to say to use it a couple times a year only? Just anxious it will damage my coating or PPF overtime, normally I use GSF for regular washes every 2-3 weeks. Thank you in advance 🙏
Amazing Pan ! great comparison.
Thanks!
Something worth mentioning @PanTheOrganizer is using a high PH (12-13) foam to neutralize wheel acid that has sulfuric or hydrofluoric acid that’s ~ph 2. I clean the heavy build up on wheels that need it, hit wheels with acid, and ~30 seconds or so later follow up with a high ph foam. Scrub and rinse. Terrific results and you don’t have to worry about post acid danger.
As always an excellent video showing the strong evidence for always doing a pre-wash, as well as the difference between the PH levels of snow foam and their ability for cleaning depending on the levels of paint contamination. If after that pre-wash you saw a degradation in the water sheeting and beading would you then use something like Carpro Reset for the handwash to rejuvenate the underlying coating?
Always follow up with a contact wash. And yes Reset is my favourite shampoo for coated cars to remove road grime and traffic film.
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you. As a follow up question on a car with at 303 Graphene coating that is about 2 months old, will the Carpro Reset work well to revive it?
Great video Pan, the Porsche always looks like new when you are done washing. That car is lucky to have you as the owner.
Thanks!
You're a legend for this experiment Pan!
Thank you!
Awesome video and product review/comparison good friend
Thanks Richard! Have a great weekend!
Pan, thanks for doing this comparison. Funny thing, I've been using the Meguiars Gold Class car wash which has a higher PH for the past several washes then thought I'd try some left over Adams Car Shampoo, a neutral PH and found the same thing. The Adams didn't initially clean as well as the Meguiars nor did it have as much lubrication. Good to know what I found is the same as you. Love the video.
I use Gold Class shampoo myself, but I never realized it was slightly alkaline. I've already decided to move to Gyeon's Bathe for my next product, but I've got a lot of the GC left. Thanks for that info!
Thanks for sharing!
For that salty surfaces Restart Wash is awesome! Although theres no such contactless shampoo, with a little help of microfiber and boom! Surface is clean. Nice video Pan ❤
Yup, always follow up with a proper hand wash.
@@PanTheOrganizer In the worst part of Winter could you get away with just doing a pre wash every few days? You know the car will get just as dirty the next day.
One of the weirdest things happened when I used a high-pH foaming pre-wash followed up with a relatively neutral-pH one. I started with using 3D Super Pre-Soak in my pressure washer foamer and subsequently rinsed it. I then used Optimum Car Wash, again followed by a rinse. The resultant foam was VERY long-lasting... I still had foam on my driveway 15 hours(!!!) later. Strange indeed.
Très bon vidéo comme toujours très instructif 👍
Merci Jimmy!
Another good one Pan. Very interesting the power of an alkaline soap. I'll try the new Touch Less soon. Is GSF with GS infuse can do any better?? Also, my daily car during winter time is protected with a sealant (Jescar Power Lock+). Can I proceed with an alkaline pre-treatment occasionally to removed most of the dir? Will it weaken the sealant layer?? Keep up the good work!!👍
Great video as always. What would be the result if you used the same foam cannon? I use the MJJC and have used both snow foams. I prefer Koch Chemie GSF
Hey Pan. I don’t use ceramic coatings. I use Jescar’s Ultralock and I always contact wash. My choice for a snow foam is Gfs. What I don’t want is for my snow foam to attack the sealant. Just my thoughts. Nice video. Always enjoy these types of videos. Till the next one.👍🏻😎
I’m a Jescar fan, too. Started with PowerLock, then recently switched to UltraLock. For me, a higher ph removing sealant/wax doesn’t bother me; I enjoy applying both. It’s a matter of goals: do I want a long lasting application? Or, is my goal to reduce scratches ? My goal is to reduce scratches, but I really enjoy applying Jescar/Colinite and “having” to reapply both doesn’t bother me. I think of it as a “win-win” situation: I get to apply Jescar/Colinite more often knowing I’m reducing the possibility of scratches. By the way, I had really good luck with UltraLock in Chicago. I applied in November, 2022 and it’s still going strong in April, 2023. How is it holding up in your area?
@@JustProAutoDetailingInc My first application goes down around June. I do a full decontamination wash with CarPro’s Descale. Wait a few days and then enhance and maintain with P&S Bead Maker. It’s a combo that works for me. I do a second application in late September. That can usually get me to March before I start to notice spots where the sealant just doesn’t exist anymore. The weather out here on the “Rock”, in the middle of the North Atlantic, can be an adventure even on a nice day. Thanks Keith. Picked up some new information from you. Can’t wait for the weather to improve to get at it. Keep it tight, keep it clean.😂😂
You wouldn’t use the high alkaline snow foam for every regular wash as it can weaken and strip weaker protections like waxes and sealants. It can also weaken coatings if used too often at higher concentrations. Alkaline snow foams are meant for deeper cleaning of grime and road film once in a while like for the beginning of spring to remove winter muck or before a full prep and protection application to start breaking down older protection.
@@PanTheOrganizer So what snow foam do you use for regular summer/fall washes on your Porsche? Thanks
BH snow foams are just the best. In heavy TF conditions a second hit really takes almost all the TF / dirt away - only takes 5 minutes more and really minimises swirls from the contact wash.
Love their Active Foam, used it on my engine bay with great results.
Yes that's a good snow foam.
Best course of action for the winter in areas with the scourge of salt on the roads is to do what I have done with my '88 IROC for the past 35yrs. Store it🙂
Great video as usual. I feel like bilt Hamber are doing themselves out of a significant number of customers with their dilution advice. It’s a fantastic product but a lot of people will be confused by their advice and just grab a product that tells you a simple ratio.
Thanks for watching.
I thought the instructions were clear enough.
Really hope Matt Moreman sees this. He mentioned in a recent wash and talk that he wasn't sure how much better Touchless was than GSF as a pretreatment. This demonstrates very well how good Touchless is. I was finally able to pick some up and I was blown away with its performance. I just wish we could get It as cheap as our friends in the UK can get it
It’s hard for Matt to see the cleaning power of Bilt Hamber as in Florida he isn’t exposed to the same extreme weather like we have in our Canadian winters.
Hi Pan, thanks for the video. How many ounces of touchless did you add to your MJJC to get the 4%PIR.
Always interesting, I have some light water spots on a few panels on the Gyeon mohs evo coated vehicle and I am planning to use Carpro Dscale as soon as I get delivery from a Carzila, and got to say I’m definitely nervous since I do not want to damage the coating itself by doing something wrong but we’ll see how it goes, those snow foam videos with different pH levels definitely help.
No worries about descale. It’s meant for removing light water spots. As long as you don’t use it for regular washes, your coating will be fine.
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you ❗️, will start with very conservative dilution ratio, panel by panel and it’s definitely not my maintenance shampoo, only for situations like this when necessary.
Well needed Video Mr.Pan. You asked us in one Video what we wanna see and I had the Idee that you wash an unprotected car with protection shampoo so we can see how good is the protection from a Shampoo only.
I really like GSF because it’s very gentle. I didn’t even remove bead maker off my car. I love it because I know that it’s not degrading my coating overtime.. on the other hand I think the Bill Hamburg stuff is very good for maybe every couple months and maintenance wash because that stuff to me a scary as it’s probably degrading your coating a lot faster than some of the other products on the market.. but great video. Thanks for always making such excellent content. Pan CarPro lift.. good candidate against the bill Hamburg.. and also the Gion foam😊
Thanks Brian. And you’re correct. You wouldn’t use the high alkaline snow foam for every regular wash as it can weaken and strip weaker protections like waxes and sealants. Alkaline snow foams are meant for deeper cleaning of grime and road film once in a while like for the beginning of spring to remove winter muck or before a full prep and protection application to start breaking down older protection.

@@PanTheOrganizer that’s excellent! I love Jason and those guys I order from them all the time. Definitely have fun with that!
I once used gsf mixed with touchless to get a thicker foam from gsf and the Alkalin power & effectiveness of touchless, the result was rather nice, in your vidéo we can clearly see the différence between gsf & touchless, when you move from one side to the other side. Hey Pan! Thanks for the informative video. Going to have to try this when it starts snowing again where I live. Where do you get your small measuring cups?
They’re not available anymore unfortunately
Hi love the content. Koch chemie recommends adding GS for that extra grime removal, do you think with the GS added, will the cleaning power be closer to BH TL?
No it still won’t be near the cleaning power of BH
Great video! Your Porsche is receiving the love it requires as we can see, so that's why it looks still better than new (as you say 😂). How do you feel about using an ultra soft brush to agitate some tough to reach spots before the contact wash (e.g. windows gaps, mirror gaps etc)?
Yes I use Detail Factory Ultra Soft detailing brushes on exterior trim when needed, as you'll see in this video: kzhead.info/sun/p5uBc6aLjaCfrYU/bejne.html

Great video thanks Pan. I have a question. On this winter I started to use a new technique for washing my car. I'm spraying with marolex ergo with 1:15 Green Star on dry and dirty paint. After I let it dwell for like 2 mins I pressure wash it closely and carefully to not miss any dirt from bottom to top after that I rinse it again this time top to bottom. Then I spray some gyeon wet coat, then rinse and air dry my car. This way it looks very clean. When I touch the paint my hand doesn't get dirty at all. At this point I'm not sure if contact was is really essential every single wash unless the car very dirty. What do you think? I'm sorry for the very long comment 😅
Great video again Pan! Really shows the power of more alkaline foams. Too bad BH doesn’t offer more consumer level sizes in 500 or 1,000ml, so I will try Lift. Do you know if Gyeon Foam is ph neutral or alkaline, the description on Carzilla does not specify. Thanks!
Nobody really knows for Gyeon Foam. I see some places say pH neutral, other places say pH 12, and Gyeon only says pH balanced. You’d have to write to them to find out.
Great video pan. You explained a little of using higher PH snow foam on sealants and waxes not being too good if used frequently. I’m assuming it’s similar with ceramic coatings? I don’t live in an area where we get much snow but we do get some and let’s mention pollen so I was wondering if maybe using Bilt Hamber once a month a good practice and lower PH snow foam at a weekly to biweekly basis? Also, what do you recommend to use on bird droppings when a vehicle is ceramic coated?
I wouldn’t recommend the use of high alkaline snow foams even on full blown ceramic coatings in a weekly basis as you run the risk of weakening the protection. Once in a while when a deeper clean is needed to remove tough grime, accumulated road film or road salts, etc. For bird droppings, the only good solution is to wash the car regularly and as quickly as possible when you see a dropping. The bare minimum is to spray the area with a quick detailer or rinseless wash and gently wipe with a push microfiber towel. Bird droppings are acidic in nature and can start etching through the clear coat especially if left unattended in scorching sunlight.
"I absolutely hate winter" lol I feel you on that, brother! I moved from NY to California mostly to get away from the winters there 😄
I love California weather!
I like the bilt Hamber touchless in our winter here in Ottawa. Not a fan of the scent but it works. My wife’s pilot starts beading right away after using this and her vehicle just has carpro lite(which had been on there two years). I have cquk3.0 just approaching that 3 year mark and since switching from P&S pearl as my pre foam I think the touchless was killed it for good. It could be coincidence but the touchless is aggressive imo. Side note touchless is awesome for pre foaming and rinsing underside, wheels and wheel wells. I love pearl as a foam for summer months because it rinses just as easy as reset.
You definitely wouldn’t use Touch-Less for regular weekly washes as that will weaken even the best ceramic coatings after repeated use. Once every other month perhaps to remove deeper grime, road film and road salts. For regular maintenance, use a pH neutral shampoo. On another note, it’s amazing that you got three years out of CQuartz UK 3.0 as it’s a 2-year claim coating. So it was really passed its promised durability anyways.
@@PanTheOrganizer oh man I never realized I shouldn’t use touchless weekly. I did however only use it when it was very dirty.
Superbe vidéo comparative Pan , vous avez encore bcp de neige par chez vous c est fou ^^ 😊
Oui ça vient à peine de fondre et nous sommes rendu fin avril. L’hiver au Québec est interminable malheureusement haha.
Hi Pan, But if you put some GS in the GSF can it be similar like the bilt hamber?
One thing I just wanted to randomly drop in here, Pan - Detail Factory recently released an interior brush. It looks exactly like their tire brush that I know you like, but with softer bristles. I think they've inadvertently created my favorite WHEEL brush! The bristles are the right softness, it has (to me) a much more manageable size compared to a brush like the Wheel Woolies, and it's rubberized to protect the wheels. I'd be curious to see if you agree!
I use that interior brush as a tire dressing applicator often.
Pan - it's not the Curveball I'm referring to, it's a new Interior Brush they released only about a month ago...
I've been using CarPro Lift for a year and loved it. Thought about trying GSF but it seems like Lift is the way to go, for me, after living in a region with lots of road salt in the winter.
Just keep in mind that you wouldn't use high alkaline pH snow foams for regular weekly washes as you'd weaken even the best coatings over repeated use. But once in a while is fine, to remove grime, accumulated road film or road salts, etc. I do that a few times on my car, including at the beginning of spring for a deeper clean, and it works perfectly, no damages to the coating. See my ultimate spring cleaning video: kzhead.info/sun/oriadqmXp2SFdK8/bejne.html
@@PanTheOrganizer Noted. Instead, is it OK to use my shampoo, Meguiar's Shampoo Plus, as foam for the twice a month washes? It still seems to pull down the dirt and grime after letting it sit for a few minutes and it seems that mechanical action of the foam dripping is what is key for cleaning loose dirt.
@@PanTheOrganizerTell that to the European guys that use Alkaline snow foams every wash. If your ceramic coating is affected by the soap you use then it’s not a good product.
Great video 👍. Could you please make a video on ONRs ability to fight calcium ? Ive been told to add some ONR to my soap wash bucket to minimize the amount of calcium left on the paint after wash on a hot sunny day ? I struggle a lot with this in my driveway..... It does not seem to work at all.....
When you prepare your wash solution in the bucket, add one ounce of ONR in the mix, and that will help to soften the water a bit. It's not as perfect as having a true water deionizer setup, but it will help. Still, always work in the shade and on a cool surface. If you wash your car as late as possible at the end of the day, that will help. See my video on the top 20 uses for a rinseless wash here: kzhead.info/sun/nKuGeZ2XjItniok/bejne.html
I love that you drive your Porsche in the snow!
Absolutely! Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. 😁👍🏻
💯 agree. No garage queens!
I guess it helps when you are able to wash it 2-3 times a week 😊 Awsome garage setup👍🏻
I love kid woah
@@Ahagmann855yeah it
Excellent video as always Pan, your car makes me drool, magnificent 😊 I like to spray McGee's rinseless wash over the car, leave it for a short time and then contact wash. We don't live in a snowy climate so it works so well.
Thanks Claudia! The color is so unique (Aventurine Green) I get stopped by people everywhere to tell me how gorgeous the car looks. I thought I would go unnoticed in a color like that haha.
@@PanTheOrganizer hahaha no flying under the radar for you in that car Pan, at least everyone who sees it gets to enjoy it too👏👏👏
Hehehe good point!
Thanks for the vid Pan. If I can’t wash my vehicles for a few weeks because of weather or work etc etc, I’ll use Lift as a pre wash. If it’s a general weekly maintenance wash I’ll use Mega Foam or GSF 👍
👍🏻
Hey Pan love the videos as always. What are your thoughts on AMMO Frothe the waterless wash that Larry came up with? I was thinking that it can be a great pre soak or pre rinse before you hit the car with the pressure washer. Would love to know your thoughts! Thanks!
A waterless or hoseless wash should only be a last effort type backup only if you haze zero access to free flowing water. Even Larry says that the traditional wash method is better if you have access to water. That being said, Frothe is top tier when it comes to a hoseless wash for those who don’t have any other alternative to wash their car. I reviewed it in this video (in which Larry did a guest appearance): kzhead.info/sun/ZNuSfMd_iGVtnIk/bejne.html
Très bon comparatif ! Merci Pan. J'ai pas bien compris la différence entre le Auto Foam et le Touch less ?
Touch-Less en hiver et Auto-Foam le reste de l’année.
Pan, if we add a little Meguiars apc to a neutral snow foam in a foam canon, does that create a little more cleaning power? Thanks, another great video!
From my experience it sure does! I use a 1:10 dilution ratio. You can also pre-rinse with an APC at 1:10 (I usually add 1oz. of car shampoo)! Hope that helps!
Yes. I add 5% bilt hamber Surfex HD to a pH neutral snow foam. Works great and better than binning rubbish snow foams
Another great informative video Pan! As a fellow Montrealer who is just trying to keep his car clean during these horrible winter months, would you recommend using a higher PH level foam as part of a maintenance wash? What are your thoughts on a two stage wash where we would use a higher PH in the foam cannon and then a PH neutral in the bucket for the contact stage? Given the fact that the car is ceramic graphene coated. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Love the channel!
Yeah you wouldn’t use high pH snow foams for regular washes as it can weaken and even strip weaker protections like waxes and sealants. You use alkaline snow foams once in a while to remove deeper grime, road film and road salts for example. For weekly washes, a pH neutral shampoo and snow foam is enough. Once in a while, like at the start of spring you can crank up the cleaning power as in my ultimate spring cleaning tutorial here: kzhead.info/sun/oriadqmXp2SFdK8/bejne.html
Bilt Hamber Touch-less and Carpro reset is my go to, then followed up with Bilt Hamber Touch-on shampoo to give it 3 months plus ceramic protection, absolutely the best cleaning and protection solution 🎉
😁👍🏻
Many detailing channels recommend you to rinse the prewash from the bottom first and up but you dont do it. Would love to know your thought about it, thank you. Great video as always Pan!
There aren't that many who recommend that to be honest. All the channels I follow do it the same way I do. I have tested with doing it from bottom up instead, and I didn't notice any difference really. Perhaps some that do see a difference with a specific snow foam. You can try it too. I doubt you will see any difference regardless of which method you test. The key factor is more that pre-wash is effective when using the proper snow foam.
Thanks Great Video. You know you have to keep the surface in good shape, beading water easily, which indicates a nice slick surface. If you have this, its much easier to clean and keep clean since its a lot less porous which binds dirt and grime. Lots of people just dont understand this and in reality you should do some agitation because you can never get it all off. The smart people will note where on their car this consistently happens and agitate those areas and check the rest.
Great video as always Pan.. jus recently I was look for a ph 12 wash for my truck.. this video really helped me out.. By the way.. can you tell me what ceramic coating you used on your car?
Thanks! I have the professional grade Roar Coatings graphene/ceramic coating on my car. I talk about it and show the application in this popular video: kzhead.info/sun/YJ2phsuiiHibZI0/bejne.html
@@PanTheOrganizer thanks will check it out
Great video pan is it possible to do a best spray & rinse sealant test 🙏
Thanks Gussy!
I normally first use Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Prep because I don’t like to wash dirt off with just water, than use Koch Chemie snow foam to use brushes in all the cracks and do my contact wash with Meguiar’s. Maybe that is over kill, but that is the way I do it.
Hello Paaaaann !!!
Hi Pan, would you say these are both ok or not on cars with sealants ? Thanks
Does the higher PH soaps strip paint protection over time ie. Wax, sealants etc? Thanks for another great video buddy.
Hi Paul. For sure, alkaline shampoos can start breaking down and stripping waxes and sealants, as those don't have strong chemical resistance properties. Ceramic coatings have much higher resistance to chemicals, but if you use strong alkaline shampoos or very acidic shampoos on ceramic coatings too often, like every week, even coatings will start to weaken. For regular weekly washes, a pH neutral shampoo or snow foam is all you need. Once in a while, to do a deeper cleaning of grime and accumulated traffic film, like at the beginning of spring, then you can use higher pH soaps or acidic ones. See my spring maintenance tutorial: kzhead.info/sun/oriadqmXp2SFdK8/bejne.html
Hey Pan, thanks for the video. ok to use carpro lift on ceramic costed cars? Thx!
Yes it’s designed for coated cars. But don’t use it for every wash. Just when you see hydrophobics diminishing because of accumulated traffic film.
I think all things are relative when it comes to weather or not it will strip waxes/sealants/coatings faster. Every resource I'm seeing is that it is still safe to use...but I would argue a few different points. I just purchased BH Auto Foam as a "pre wash" for my cars. I use it in an iK foam pro 12 with a 50:1 dilution ratio. It works better for me than GSF ever did in my iK foam pro. For whatever reason, even using the same dilution ratio, the filter would ALWAYS clog with a lot of black stuff when I used GSF. It made the Foam Pro 12 not work at all and clog up. It was a major issue and it was causing my process to be slowed down. I wash my cars at a pay and spray, so it is my only option to be able to replicate a "snow foam." After my first use with BH Auto Foam, I just loved how it went on the car. It seemed to move more volume & product. It seemed to cover a wider surface area (probably due to the filter not clogging). It had a good dwell time on the car. I liked that it wasn't super thick. I continued my wash on my ceramic coated car with GSF in my wash bucket. I just loved the experience overall. I did not realize that it was actually a higher PH, but all resources I see seems like it is safe to use - especially at the dilution ratio that I am using. Honestly, 60 washes on a sealant before breaking down...based off of 52 weeks in a year. Most people aren't washing their car weekly and I personally believe any protection is going to break down faster than that anyways - even if you did not use BH Auto Foam. I am going to continue using it simply because it seems to work really well with my setup, and I like the performance of it. I think a key factor in all this is a dilution ratio that is not super concentrated.
Yes at 2% PIR it’s safer than the full blown 5% PIR
I nearly freaked out when I realised you were spraying indoors! But I guess it's the only way in a Canadian winter. Super video.
My garage was custom built to be able to wash cars in it year round. See all the cool details in my full garage tour video here: kzhead.info/sun/qtxveLh6eKybi4E/bejne.htmlsi=lW8PLsBZHTd1xg7o
Hey pan! Love your videos. I was wondering if you can use the bilt hamber auto foam 4% PIR with the IK e foam pro 12?
You absolutely can. Any foaming pump sprayer.
Thanks for pre-treat with the higher ph. I’m sold on it. Would you consider using Koch-Chemie GS mixed with a ph neutral car shampoo to increase cleaning power? If so, what ratio would you use?
You wouldn’t use the high alkaline snow foam for every regular wash as it can weaken and strip weaker protections like waxes and sealants. It can also weaken coatings if used too often at higher concentrations. Alkaline snow foams are meant for deeper cleaning of grime and road film once in a while like for the beginning of spring to remove winter muck or before a full prep and protection application to start breaking down older protection.
Great video, Pan. What is the official name of your green paint? That is absolutely gorgeous. Very unique as well. Thanks
Thanks! Yeah it’s a unique spec, very gentleman and classy. It’s called “Aventurine Green”. Everybody that sees it in person gives it two thumbs up.
@PanTheOrganizer Thank you for replying back. Here in Utah, we had a brutal winter as well. Bring on the spring!
Would have been nice to see the PH high foam sprayed on the neutral side to see how much better it is for a pre wash.....
Very good video Pan and I did enjoy your methodical approach. After watching it though I did feel like this isn't really a fair comparison. For the GSF you're using a 1:10 dilution ratio (which is probably what Koch Chemie recommends) whereas the BH Touchless you're using nearly a 1:1 ratio. So your BH Touchless is almost 5 times more concentrated than the GSF. I wonder if the GSF would perform similar to the BH Touchless if they were at the same dilution ratio.
I used the manufacturer recommended dilutions for both. This isn’t about dilutions though. The Gsf even at a higher dilution still remains pH neutral. The point here was to show what an alkaline pH snow foam does versus a pH neutral foam. The difference is pretty obvious especially in person. That doesn’t mean Gsf is a bad snow foam. Quite the opposite. It’s one of the best snow foams for regular washes as you wouldn’t use an alkaline snow foam every week. You’d be weakening the protection if you use high pH snow foams too often.
another great movie. really great to see your passion! but as good as you protect the paint. how do you clean and protect the underside of your car? I'd like to see some more of that! Or is the underside completely corroded? Gr Jaap 🇳🇱
Thanks Jaap. On German luxury vehicles, undercarriage protection isn't really necessary (and for the rest of the vehicle neither) as they used high quality galvanized steel or aluminum, so rust isn't really an issue on modern vehicles. Plus, I only keep my cars three years and always get a new one, so rust isn't really a worry for me. But cleaning is important. I still clean the underside of vehicles during winter months, with a special tool, as shown in my video here: kzhead.info/sun/p5uBc6aLjaCfrYU/bejne.html
that’s the best solution, a new one every 3 years! and already thinking about a new one?
Make a video on all of your garage items that’s needed to maintain the garage as well. 🙏
Speaking of snow foam and ph. I wonder if you could do a video on cleaning and protecting modern soft top convertible cars and what type of pH neutral soaps you would use for weekly washing Vs say a seasonal deep cleaning of the top. Question. Would you say using an si02 based car wash soap is ok on a convertible stop top for regular maintenance washes ?
Great info! Do you think after the contact wash, you will be able to tell the difference between the pH 12 and pH 7.5 wash?
No as the pre-wash is simply intended to remove the most dirt possible before the contact wash to reduce marring chanced while hand washing. Once hand washing is done, both scenarios have exactly the same clean level.
Great consumer advice, thanks. Quick question, why is Touchless more logical in the winter than Autofoam? All the best.
Correct. Touch-Less is for winter months and Auto-Foam the rest of the time.
Hey Pan. I know this is an older video but every time I get to different steps on either one of my 2 vehicles I check back on your vids for refrences and Ideas for products and processes. I was curious ( mostly confused ) as to why the" auto foam 13 ph" was suggested for more regular use over the "touchless 12 ph" foam soap. Im a little concerned that either one of these might take off any of my coatings since i as yet have not put any high end actuall ceramic coatings but am using quick spray ons like turtle wax spray on ceramic and gyeon wet coat and a few others at this level. would love your oppinion before i consider buying one of these products .
Perhaps you misunderstood. Neither Auto-Foam or Touch-Less is recommended for regular weekly washes. They are too high on the pH scale, and could strip waxes/sealants and even start to weaken ceramic coatings if you use those too often. I use those alkaline snow foams once every season or so, to remove traffic film (and I use an acidic snow foam like CarPro Descale to remove accumulated minerals if needed, or to strip older waxes or sealants before I detail a car). For regular weekly washes, all you need is a pH neutral car shampoo. For scenarios when you would use alkaline or acidic shampoos, see my ultimate spring cleaning tutorial here: kzhead.info/sun/oriadqmXp2SFdK8/bejne.html
I did misunderstand. Thanks for clearing it up and thanks for the quick response. One of my 2 passions is lawn work and the other is auto detailing so I love your channel. thanks again
Cool! How did you discover my channel by the way? Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZhead as we surpassed 910,000 subscribers and we have over 120 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing.
I cant remember the first video of yours I saw but I have been watching KZhead vids for many years and have been detailing my own vehicles for over 10 years so I have watched many detailing vids and for at least 5 years now I look forward to your vids. My kids 😍 hearing your older intros as "Paaaaaan the organizer". lol I'm in Pennsylvania usa and we usually get enough winter that it is important to keep up with your vehicle to keep it looking nice
I have been using Nerta Carnet Jumbo for last 2.5 years which has high pH level on multiple brand new cars and never had issue with the pain work. It cleans the car so well touch less and I have never had to hand wash either cars. I would say it cleans and shines 95% of the car which is good enough for me.
