I'm quite sure the drill is part of a 'gritty' part of the song and is meant to sound unnerving rather than enjoyable at that moment. Surely it's more that people like the dark atmosphere of that part of the song as part of an experience? Like watching a horror film for a thrill etc. Billie and Finneas also use screams a lot too i noticed. I always think the sound of the X factor crowd screaming their support for the performers sounds kind of weird and desperate. They should use that sound too. And give me royalties : )

They both are extraordinarily talented! I love them both and feel them in the music as one should.

We have the exact same thing in the USA for the blind, it just isn't rhythmic. It sounds like a traffic engineer designed the sound. The Australian one sounds like much more pleasant.
I'm from Western Australia and I'm pretty sure ours don't sound like this.. possibly if they're sped up haha
