I personally will miss him beyond words when he leaves us for his true endless mission to explore strange new worlds. Thank you Jeff for granting this gift. Love ya Bill! Always have, always will. 🖖 Live Long & Prosper my dear friend.

    • No one was drinking the champagne it was being sprayed all over the others. In fact, if you go rewatch the replay of the webcast, Bezos sprays the bottle over the others; it's clear he's making every effort not to hit Shatner with the spray, then he tosses the bottle to the ground and quickly returns to comfort and listen to Shatner.

By the time the first episode of Star Trek aired in 1966 the entire Project Mercury program had already completed all missions and five years earlier President Kennedy gave his famous "man on the moon" speech. Two years after Star Trek started the first Apollo mission flew, sending three astronauts into space for ten days. One month after the last episode aired - the first man walked on the moon.

    • Come on ... yes, its really great that William Shatner could finally go to space in real life, and it was heartwarming to see how emotionally touched he was. But after all, there were 3 more People on that craft - they deserved Bezos' attention as well. I'm not a big fan of Bezos, but I think he dedicated a good amount of time to Shatner right after hatch opening. After some time he had to turn to the rest of the crowd and get the champagne opened. It's what paying customers expect and Bezos knows that perfectly well.

I would love to hear his contrasting insights from that trip to space.

    @favesongslist@favesongslist2 жыл бұрын
    • Virgin Galactic has pretty much tripped up and fallen on its face. They won't even start flying any commercial flights until the end of next year because of the problems encountered this year with flying outside of the designated airspace for nearly two minutes and then the problems found with materials used in Unity and White Knight's airframes. They've also killed four people trying to make the damn thing work and now you want VG to try and fly SS2 at night!?

      @Nowhereman10@Nowhereman102 жыл бұрын
    • @@Nowhereman10 Unless someone eventually flies suborbital flights a night time the only other way to see the stars will be an orbital flight, there's no way Shatner could train for 6 months and take the physical, so Virgin Galactic will still remain the best bet in the next few years.

Seeing our giant round planet from above, is so profoundly life-changing and perspective altering, that astronauts often have the same reaction as Captain Kirk did. Most if not all are permanently altered, because the experience is so mind-blowing and out of the norm, that they struggle to find the words to explain what they’ve seen and what they’re feeling.

  • I cannot see how they got Bill back in his seat so quickly after the weightlessness given that the whole thing was over so soon. The weightlessness was only a four minutes. Also, they had to wait to get out of the pod longer than it took for the trip.

  • As much as I dislike the shitty tactics Blue Origin is using, they've built a beautiful launch system. Congrats!

  • Credit where credit is due, Blue Origin is consistently doing incredible stuff here. Hope to see a Blue Origin orbital rocket come to fruition soon.

    • Space is the wrong term here. They are still in earths atmosphere. SpaceX Inspiration4 was in space.

    • @@ZillionPrey Depends on your definition of "space". But I agree, Inspiration4 was trully in space, I think they were higher than ISS.
