Well-known hockey commentator Don Cherry believes the Hurricanes' new postgame celebrations are 'out of line' and he calls them "a bunch of jerks". Today, we heard reaction from the team!

Colorado Avalanche fan here - let's have some personality in hockey. I am totally okay - more than okay, even! - with a team celebrating with its fans. If that makes me a jerk, well, I seem to be in good company.

You know, not only is this good, clean fun for the fans, but it's a great morale builder for the team as well. Cherry needs to chill, let these guys have fun. The fans like it, they like it.

I personally love the celebrations! It helps bond the team to the fan base! Don Cherry is an old timer and obviously lends a blind eye to other sports where celebrations happen while the opposing team is still on or leaving the field! i.e. a walk off win in baseball. In the NFL teams celebrate touchdowns and pretty much everything else in full view of the opposing team! As well as opposing fans if they are on the road! I've seen fans at PNC in the opposing sweaters of the team the 'Canes have just defeated participating in the storm surge, clapping along. Don Cherry just needs to keep it to himself like the "other broadcasters and such" like he says and do the same!

BTW, my respect for Mr. Cherry notwithstanding....a guy who played ONE GAME in the NHL, and whose main claim to fame is coaching a defunct team (the Colorado Rockies, who became the New Jersey Devils) doesn't really have a lot of room to talk about what players should or should not do after a victory. If he's not talking about the game himself, he should shut up, IMHO. Sour "Grapes" much?

I disagree. As a Canadian, Don Cherry is a total embarrassment to Canadian culture. Sports should be about fun, enjoyment, and promotion to the masses, not some uptight conservative crap talking about "class" and "fashion" etc. I'm so happy for the Hurricanes and I really really hope that they continue this creativity as it is a great promotion of the sport. Heck, I hope many other teams follow suit with creativity like Vegas' beginning game entertainment and Philly's Gritty (even though as a Pen's fan, that furry thing freaks me out haha).
