  • As a person living in a rural area, can confirm that gun culture has gone from hunting for food to being a pretend badass. I keep my guns, all hunting rifles and shotguns, in a locked safe separate from the ammunition. My neighbor has a loaded AR on his wall by the front door. It's not normal. 20 years ago we'd joke about the guys who needed a semiautomatic rifle to get a deer because we could shoot ours with one shot. Now hunting opener often sounds like a firefight has broken out. Stay safe my friends.

    • Everything you said is so true. As a hunter I feel if you can’t shoot the animal with the 1st or maybe 2nd shot you shouldn’t be hunting. I’ve never needed a 2nd shot, I don’t shoot until I’m confident I’ll hit my target. A responsible hunter will know where every bullet is going.

    • It's more about where the law should be, before you condemn them all, I want to give you a small example of gun laws I disagree with. Suppressors and the tax stamp, they don't make them silent, in order to use them you use a weaker round so the gun is less powerful to keep the bullet traveling sub sonic and they add bulk / length to the weapon so they can be more difficult to use than the non suppressed version. Yet fear in the 70 and 80s from Rambo type movies fueled the laws that make ownership and use of one significantly harder for a regular joe like me. They aren't a forever item so they have parts that need replaced and such along the way but before I even can buy one I need a 250 tax paid ( none of that tax is used for gun victims or crimes , it's absorbed by the fed and used at their whim without voters having a say) right now I may be able to get approval in 8 months but the backlog is so crazy that many have waited a year or longer. Because it is a controlled item the manufacturers have premiums on them costing 1000 dollars or more frequently. I've got special rules about transporting / using and lord forbid I move out of my home town I have to jump through hoops to do that with a suppressor. I want a suppressor because I enjoy shooting but as a veteran who has been around loud explosions and such I deal with ringing in my ears. I've got to wear decent hearing protection to shoot and it's upsetting that something so simple to make and use is hidden behind a pay wall and I do feel like it violates my rights to keep and bear arms. It's numerous little slights such as this that has the gun community so unwilling to discuss " common sense laws" because on our end we only experience our rights slowly being chipped away with each new law / obstacle in ownership and use. I worked as a corrections officer while in college, I met prisoners who got in trouble for owning non tax stamped suppressors with that being their only crimes ever . Just like Marijuana laws I couldn't rationalize the danger to society or the benefit of their detainment. Instead of 2 sides always butting heads, we need to remove biases and stop the tribal fights, I want to recognize and learn from your views while knowing mine can be considered and that we can leave the table feeling like we both made a better America when we are done.

    • Seeing as America is literally the only country on earth that recognizes constitutionally protected natural born human rights, I wouldn't be surprised that a foreigner couldn't fathom the concept of individual liberty or human rights. (And that's not an insult, I genuinely wish other countries recognized the second amendment right that their people DO have) Guns aren't going to go away anytime soon, and even if we had a magic wand to wave and make them all disappear, evil will always exist. There will always be big strong men who are evil and shameless enough to take advantage of women or weaker people. As long as those evil people exist, and are using guns to harm others, I have the natural born human right of self defense to use the exact same, if not better weapons than those evil people. It is a right that is observable in nature, It isn't even a concept made up by man, it's literally a fact that the second amendment exists. When a deer is attacked, it uses it's antlers to defend itself, We don't go around saying we need to remove the antlers from all deer because it's too dangerous when they fight. We all understand that every living creature has the right to self defense and self preservation. As long as evil people with guns exist, it is our right to also own the same means to defend ourselves. Taking away guns while leaving the criminals to keep doing what they want is exactly like cutting off a deer's antlers and allowing it to be eaten and have no way of protecting itself. It's an already unequal playing field that you are trying to make even more unfair. Trying to restrict that is violating a constitutionally protected natural born human right that is as fundamental as the right to life. If Americans were really as disgusted as it that you try to lie and make it seem, then we would already have voted in rampant gun control and amended the constitution to remove the second amendment. Here in America, we understand how important human rights are, so we cherish that. We put on these huge events, make a spectacle about it, so we can celebrate our traditions of respecting individual liberty and human rights. It may seem silly to you, but it is our way of life. There is a reason America is the most respected and feared nations across the world. There is a reason That Japan was literally afraid of invading because they knew that American Civilians would slaughter their army without breaking a sweat. We emit greatness, we set examples for the rest of the world to follow. I encourage you to learn about the second amendment, because self defense isn't just an American right, it's a natural human right to all people of the world. America is just unfortunately the only place that recognizes your rights and allows freedom.
