A hurt sea lion climbs up a ladder to ask boaters for help. The sea lion was named Amber and taken to rehab where she was released back to the ocean months later.

    • There were multiple people there helping and only one was recording. Documenting it shows people that they can do more for wildlife to help them when they’re in danger. I don’t see the problem.

  • From what I can find, this was off Laguna Beach, California in 2014. The animal was taken to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center for treatment of a head puncture wound, dehydration & malnourishment.

    • Because they follow boats to fish with people and the ports and dams they hang out and eat.they know that people like fis h too and also people don't usually hunt them. I know people kill them to thin out their numbers and the Inuit people may hunt for them.. Basically I'm rambling about how I think we are kinda friends with seals I suppose

    • I think animals can sense vibrations . They know whether a human is kind or otherwise . We , as human sets of vibrations . Remember when we are near someone in a room and for unknown reason we like or don't like the person . Thats because the person sets of vibration and we can sense it .

All this improperly disposed of biohazardous material we leave lying around everywhere. If certain tiny particles would really make us sick, I'm sure we would have wiped out all mammals by now.   • It never fails to amaze me how a wild animal will reach out in desperation to another species for help. I'm so glad people were there to help this poor underweight sea lion and give it a second chance for life. Have you all seen the video of the sea lion jumping on a boat trying to escape from Orcas? Incredible footage.

    • Animals are smart enough to know that humans have incredible abilities to destroy or save them. I think the difference is in how they interpret the agression or passions of human behavior, and their own level of fear of humans! In these more idealogical days of species, animal, preservation efforts humans have been experiencing the animals often become aware of man's ability to help them when they cannot help themselves!

    • some young animals just think that any animal is cool if they get abandoned. its adult signal that often sets in hesitation about other animals. i raise baby animals and see behaviour like that all the time, including in seal pups in the puget sound.

  • It was amazing how quickly the sea lion learned to climb those stairs! She seemed to be pointing at her right side of her head like "this is where it hurts".

    • I think she already knew what it was. Usually, the animal tries to jump up, and will often ignore a ladder until directed to use it. But this one went straight to the ladder, and looked like she was insisting on using it. That tells me she knew it was an easier way to get on. That only occurs if the animal was trained, or a very intelligent animal watched humans use it, and figured out on its own what it is.

    • I'm guessing it's a former rescue seal, that was rehabilitated and released. So it knows to trust humans.

  • You can almost tell she's worked with humans before. The way she tells them that she can't make the jump to the deck by shaking her head, how she knows the function of the ladder, and how quiet she's being.

Animals are just as special and important as we are on this planet, knowing and feeling this is the highest of blessings, helping animals who brave it to ask for help is also such a blessing they chose you to be their guardian.     • Another commenter did some research and found out that she was treated for a head puncture wound, malnourishment and dehydration. If that's correct info, the poor thing really needed the help when they found her.

  • But what was wrong with her? How did they know she needed a vet? Other than one eye looking a little shut and maybe being underweight how are we supposed to know is best to take her to a rehab facility rather than to wait for her to go back in the ocean? So many questions unanswered. It would’ve been really nice to see footage from the release day. Glad those guys know when to help out a little sea friend and super happy that she’s back home.

    • If you watch closely you can spot her ribs, but she is generally underweight. At one point in the video she even goes for a rope, I think that she thought that’s a fish

    • She is really underweight. Notice all the folds in her skin - these aren't normal. She may have an illness (like her damaged eye) that is keeping her from being able to hunt. That is just my guess.

    • Maybe they didn’t know she was truly that injured at the time. I have no idea what the “perfect weight” for a seal is so to be fair, I wouldn’t have thought she was that injured. It seems like they didn’t want to physically grab and put her on the boat just in case she wasn’t comfortable with that idea. They did perfectly fine. I always hate when there is a video of someone helping an animal the best way they know how, and you have someone claiming they didn’t help “the right way”. They did the best they could given what was most comfortable for them.

    • @@babyloobibovski2947 No but taxed to death and starvation are outcomes for a few. In the US if you get sick you can wind up in impossible to climb out of debt. Most people are one bad disaster away from financial ruin, maybe not even a bad disaster, just a mild one, a car breakdown. If you have ever watched Dave Ramsey, something like 40% of Americans cannot afford a 400-500$ emergency on their own, without help.
