  • Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the definition of "Method Acting"; you can go on forever to talk about what he's done to prepare for his roles: - My Left Foot: Befriended several people with disabilities at Sandymount School Clinic, refused to break character, and demanded to be moved around on the set in his wheelchair and have other people feeding him. (btw, he denied that he had broken those two ribs) - The Last of the Mohicans: went through weight training, spent lots of the time in the forest his character lived, learned how to fish, camp, hunt, make canoes, and skin animals. He also never went anywhere without his rifle. - In the name of the father: kept his Northern Irish accent the whole time, lost weight, spent lots of time in a prison cell, and insisted that the crew would throw cold water at him and verbally abuse him - The boxer: spent three years at learning to box - Gangs of New York: Always spoke with his New York accent, became a butcher apprentice, listened to music by Eminem, and hired circus people to teach him how to handle his butcher knife and throw daggers. He also became sick during production because he refused to wear a warm coat since it was not from the 19th century. - There will be blood: spent one year at researching his role where he learned how to drill for oil. - Lincoln: read over 100 books on Abraham Lincoln, demanded to be referred to as "Mr. President", wrote messages to Sally Field in "Lincoln" style, and refused to let the English cast members speak to him with their own accents. Daniel Day-Lewis is indeed one of the greatest and most acclaimed actors of his generation, but I'm not very sure if I want to be on the same set with him or live with him; I'd prefer to be with someone who can be completely in character on set, and then turn it off when we're not on set

You tend to have illnesses spreading more rapidly in the colder seasons because people gather in closer proximity more frequently, causing an increase in sickness occurrences and a false association with keeping warm being necessary to avoid it.

  • Just finished watching Gangs of New York. Holy crap what an amazing performance. Easily one of the best villains in a movie I’ve ever seen. You can see his point of view, as he seems more human than most villains. And when he goes all crazy villain on everyone he really captures the crowd with his unpredictability. Wish he was in more movies so I could see more of his likely would be amazing work, but so comes the cost of method acting. It really takes a toll on a person, as he’s been out of the game for 5 years at one point, and a few years at other points. Truly an amazing actor. So sad to see him retire

  • Daniel is able to become someone entirely different, absolutely nothing is recognizable to the point that I don't even see him ANYWHERE in these movies! Seriously, where is he? That's how good of an actor he is! Some actors do a role so well that it is all we see them as. Daniel is so good that we don't see him, we see a character only, much to the dismay of his supporting cast because even with a star studded cast he just dominates a movie.

I know that in movies, but Daniel Day-Lewis' performance in There Will Be Blood just makes me believe it's a completely different person. I don't even get a sense that he is an actor in a movie, but that the audience is an ghost in reality watching as his life goes on. Amazingly directed as well.

This is the official definition of an Oscar Nod- “a vote or nomination (the act of officially suggesting that someone or something should be given a prize or position) for someone or something: Neeson received an Oscar nod for his role in Schindler's List.

My favourite performance BTW is Bill the Butcher. Although Leo was an entertaining lead and you have good performances from Brendan Gleason, Jim Broadbent and others, it was Bill the Butcher who really stole the show. I'm surprised he didn't try and go back in time and lead a tough New York gang in preparation for the role!

  • I love most of his performances, but I especially liked him as Newland Archer. Because I'm so used to seeing him in very physical roles in which he roars and shouts, it was amazing to see how good he can be also in a much more restrained role. Some people accuse him of "chewing the scenery" in all his films, and it's true that sometimes he goes a little over-the-top (though I always love it, to be honest ^^). But his ability to emote in a more quiet performance is also really impressive. The same is true, to a certain extent, of The Last of the Mohicans, which is really a masterpiece in my opinion (in addition to having superb actors, it is so beautifully filmed, perfectly edited, one of the best soundtracks of all time...)

  • I think his role as Daniel Plainview should come in at #1. He’s one of only a couple TRULY dynamic actors who can play complicated, yet believable characters -the other actor being Jack Nicholson. His role in There Will be Blood makes your question the character’s mood, desires, and intent. He was totally unpredictable and completely captivating!

  • I think he’s arguably the best actor of all time. The dude is on another plane of existence when it comes to devouring, appropriating, becoming the specific consciousness/entity he merges into. His talent is a peculiar exercise in transcending the limits of base narcissistic subjectivity. So incredible.

  • That list is fantastic, and every performance is outstanding in its own way, but I am really glad that they included his brilliant turn as Cecil Vyse in A Room With A View. It’s one thing to be good at drama, it’s an entirely other thing to also then have the chops for real comedy. His performance in that Merchant/Ivory film is hilarious from beginning to end.

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is my favourite actor of all time. It’s his versatile, synchronizing and combative accents and acting skills that make him so flabbergasting🌟🌟 I envied him when he won the Oscar for MLF. Everyone blessed him, as well as beautiful Jodie Foster who was announcing the nominees. There Will Be Blood is also a movie that I believe all movie lovers should see at least once. People will reflect different on milkshakes after the film. I didn’t get very into Lincoln that much, but I truly found him as AB Lincoln dynamic! His great in lots of the films his involved in, But those three films are his best works IMO❤️

  • Definitely the best actor to come out of England in the past 30 years. I loved his performances in My Left Foot, In The Name of The Father, Lincoln, There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York. Also holds the most oscars ever won by an Englishman. Truly an icon in the film industry. I also have to give him credit for the fact that he is amazing at accents.
