  • Amazing ! just a little tips from an engineering standpoint is to not let the little rebar touch each other, make sure there is 1 cm (about half inch) space between them and also the center plastic to avoid having unfilled gaps between the concrete !

  • Nice, 1. Oil the bottom of the basin for easy removal preferably olive oil, or whatever cooking oil. 2. For people who are afraid of the dust, you can buy a concrete finishing polish to seal its surface

    • Yup. I made 180 lbs of weight for around $60.00. The cement was about $20.00, but had to buy the tools and materials. Love it! No more gym! No more waiting for equipment! No more people talking my ear off, slowing down my workout! No risk of Covid!

  • I work at a fab shop and they allow me to take home scrap metal for 5 cents a pound and that's what I use as weights. These just look really smooth!!

    • if you want to develop patience, just find the most infuriating thing that you hate doing but you need to be done, (in my case, ironing my clothes) and then do it, for like 10 mins, then 20 mins, the 30 mins. Your patience will be stronger guaranteed. Or listen you your mother in law if your married. Guaranteed to test your patience.

  • for the rebar you really dont have to massage it into the cement because you're already adding more cement on top of it, and massaging it will make it sink faster

  • If you swapped the rebars for more fine steel mesh I think you could actually make pretty durable plates! Also rubberise it so if it cracks the weights will still remain inside the plate

  • The rocks are in the concrete, although for this application I'd go with something smaller than that. Better still, use fiberglass for the aggregate to give it more strength. There are also plasticizer additives that could help the plates resist impacts.

  • Concrete makes a lot of fine dusts which can lead to severe respiratory damages. Needs to be coated to prevent that.

  • Effort also has value. At this rate find used plates or discontinued plates. I got old rouge bumpers for much less! And will last 100x longer than concrete. But pretty cool idea.
