  • I've had a stroke just 4 months ago. I'm 62 and can't imagine having had one at such a young age. Life seems very uncertain. I hope she is one of the few that lives long and thrives for many years.

  • 🌹Thank you for kindly sharing your personal story and so bravely helping others Caroline. I learned a great deal from you & wish I could have seen this before I had a stroke 6 months ago. Im 66 and in May 2023 I also suffered an Ischemic Stroke. It started at 6am when I was writing documents by hand only to realize my ink pen was difficult to use, my beautiful penmanship suddenly became scribbles. Moments later I answered a phone call but my speech was garbled. Another sign was my tongue felt too large for my mouth. So many strange things were suddenly happening. I felt dizzy and devloped face droop. At the hospital they quickly jumped into action and Im very grateful they saved my life. This Stroke was in my Brain Stem and I luckily escaped "Locked-In Syndrome". Im still on therapy 6 months later, my balance is off, i use a cane, my speech can now be understood but has slurring of words. Most of all the Stroke Fatigue and necessary Sleep was overpowering. 🙏 I thank God Im Alive. I appreciate each day even more. I'm still healing and have a lot of residual stroke problems...but Im working in Recovery and each day i Celebrate an improvement, no matter how small, even being able to finally tie my shoes! Thank you for sharing signs of Stroke, its so important for all to know them. It may save your own life or those of loved ones.

  • Amazing shite happens! I had a stroke last week and my prototype defying the odds. Not overweight, low blood pressure, no indications whatsoever. Mine was the left side broca. So I had right sided weakness and could not speak. Let me tell you how challenging it was to try to get a hold of someone to call an ambulance for me because I live by myself. And I couldn't enunciate anything.... Worse yet was trying to communicate to the doctors in the ER. But I did get the TPA and I am definitely on the road to recovery. Ironically, when word got out that I had a stroke people thought it was my 87 year old mother!

  • Good to hear she is doing fine. I no life is a lot different after having a stroke like event. I had what is called a brain AVM when I was just 10 years old. AVMs usually cause strokes but I had a little more than that. My AVM built up so much pressure it ruptured causing a brain bleed. Was airlifted to children’s hospital in St. Louis and had emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. After that the doctors did a lot of test and found 3 blood clots from the bleed. Ended up having 3 more surgeries done. Was a rough year back in 2001. As for me physically I recovered quickly even played sports the same year as my surgeries. As for struggles it’s my short term memory. Multitasking is a bit tricky but I keep my notes. The only physical damage is I have bad right peripheral vision.

    • Are you still doing exercises for your hand? I WAS right hand dominate before my stroke. I do most things with my left hand now. However, I will ALWAYS write, paint, and draw with my right and when I am buried I will give the world a right hand middle finger salute. You can use your hand again. It just takes time (and for me a rebellious attitude). I will find KZhead links for hand exercises for you…give me a moment…
