  • Three years into my recovery this was extremely informative. I've never been fond of processed foods or fast foods. I cook everything from scratch.

    • @@PostStrokeOrg I had a stroke in the right thalamus. Every day I do 10,000 steps, your seven exercises, some stretching exercises, as well as weight exercises (2x3kg dumbbells). I have to travel periodically and then I can't do these exercises for one or two days, but then I notice that I feel quite bad without them. I have hardly any physical limitations, just the feeling of ants constantly crawling over my left extremities is very unbearable. I am a mathematician and write books, my main problem is that since the stroke I have had difficulty concentrating, which greatly hinders me. I have also become very sensitive to weather, which I wasn't before. Some days I feel almost good, but on other days it's pretty bad again. Of course, it may also be due to my age, I am 80 years old and my resilience is slowly diminishing. My dear wife is Italian and she cooks Mediterranean cuisine, so my diet should be okay... Your exercises help me a lot, but also the moral support you provide in some videos gives me hope. Anyway, thank you for your contributions, they help me a lot.

  • Starch is just a long chain of glicose melecules so as well as minimising sugar we should also minimise grain intake i.e. flour based foods.

  • I’m surprised that all of us haven’t had strokes before we are 20. Sugar and Salt get blamed for everything when it comes to health. That’s a lot of people’s diet especially when you think about common breakfast cereals loaded with both sugar and salt, cookies, sports drinks sodas … you name it. I wonder about some of these studies. I think they are missing something.

  • After my stroke I started the keto diet. High protest and low carb. I lost 90 lbs. I often eat no sodium deli turkey, drink zero alcohol and keep my sodium intake to 500-750 mgs a dad. I do consume red meat. What’s your opinion on that kind of diet?

    @Getasketch@GetasketchАй бұрын
    • I kind of doing the same, I currently start the day with one crushed, chopped garlic clove in the juice of half a lemon with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, all added to a glass of water, i now crave it in the morning. Tthen I'll eat sausage, bacon and scrambled egg with black coffee. That keeps me going until about 4pm, I'll eat a few mixed nuts in their natural state, maybe some kifir yogurt with ground flax seed and Chia seed, or a drink of full fat milk, or eat some French soft cheese or 85% dark chocolate for snacking on. I drink various herbal teas throught the day, real herbs not the supermarket herbal tea bag type. Evening meal I usually have mixed leaf salad, with cucumber, tomatoes, onion, homemade sauerkraut, beetroot, fresh thyme, fresh cut rosemary, parsley, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and apple cider vinegar, I'll have that with salmon, or mackerel or a nice fatty steak, chicken, or lamb, or organ meat. That's my daily diet every single day. I approach food as medicine, it has to get me as far away from a secondary stroke as possible, I don't know if it's the right diet but so far so good. The only salt I touch is the celtic sea salt type, mineral salt, I won't touch table salt. Cutting out the carbs and sugar and ready made foods is definitely helping. I would like to go full on carnivor but I'm leaning toward the Mediterranean diet as I'm still very cautious about it all at the moment. It's very difficult to try get enough natural protein, fat, essential minerals, vitamins and nutrients everyday without worrying about blood clots and high blood pressure, diet and nutrition seems to be minefield of contradictory information. Well there's a load of words you never asked for lol. Good luck

  • It seems to make a small difference. 19% relative difference is about 1% absolute. These changes are important for anyone with. And blood pressure is usually taken incorrectly, after you’ve been sitting in a crowded noisy waiting room. Hospitals love to give people fruit juice and sweets. Cholesterol is very controversial. Show us the real numbers, please! I

    • Real food has bioavailable nutrients whereas processed foods contain synthetic non-bioavailable nutrients (lab created synthetic copies of real nutrients). Synthetic chemicals cause physical damage. Salt contains more than just sodium. It also has magnesium and potassium. Processed foods have an abundance of sugar.

    • I'm a Stroke Survivor as well happened 6 years ago but I really don't add salt to my foods besides what is used for cooking also not a sugar fanatic either here I'll eat oatmeal glazed cookies or cookies and cream ice cream that's it. Also cut back 98% of alcohol before I'd drink over an 18 pack a day plus drug use till I had my stroke but now no drug use of course and I drink 2 beers maybe every week max so I've calmed down plus I eat veggies and have some superb salads with all the food groups in them. But the main thing is I'm alive and I have a positive mindset on Life! Thanks be to God 🙏🏻
