  • Alfa Romeo developed Giulia range from top down. QV was first and "Lesser" cars are derived from there, so it's no wonder that whole of the family is epic.

    • Actually Ferrari had quite a hand in the design... And yes the chassis of the giulia is epic, just the lesser cars are a bit less on the parts side... Still even the slow ones are some of the fastest cars if you need to handle a corner at speed...

      @Ben-bs4od@Ben-bs4odАй бұрын
    • @@Ben-bs4od It has been extremely reliable. The one and only problem I and my wife's Stelvio have ever had were the OEM batteries. Easy to replace, under warranty, and no other problems since. The brakes are excellent. They felt a little odd at first, but you easily get used to it in a few days. My wife's Stelvio is both heavier and gets driven in the city more than my Giulia, and she was just told that she has 30% brake life left at 54K miles. Pretty good, I think. We are both in our early 60s, and we've had a lot of great cars. Usually European and usually leased. These are the first vehicles where we've bought our leases out to own them. They are gorgeous to look at, inside and out, and have cat-like reflexes that make them a joy to drive. I can't speak about the Kia, but both of our Alfas have over 50K miles on them now and if our cars were stolen or totaled, we'd immediately go back to the Alfa Romeo dealer.

  • I have owned my Veloce ( with adaptive dampers ) since 2017. Absolutely adore it. Given real world use I still think the Veloce is the sweet spot in the range. I don’t do track days , so the extra grunt of the Quad would only result in entering licence losing territory that much quicker. Issues ….. sunroof jammed open in France ….. car 2 years 11 moths old …… ALFA dealers could only look at it 6 weeks later ….. £480 to be told that the roof is jammed !! And £4,500 to fix it !! 😱🤢🤮 Webasto ( the actual suppliers of the roof ) £ 680. 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 and the tech told me all Alfa’s Fiats and Jeeps suffer this …..some genius does NOT use thread lock when fitting the roofs ….. result guide wires go pop !! • As a QV owner for 3 months now, I absolutely love mine. The difference between eco (with valves closed) and Dynamic/Race, it's completely two different cars. Able to achieve 30-35mpg in silence and comfort, whilst also being able to live on the limits of the redline in a symphony of noise, at the touch of a button. I came from a BMW M2 and find this handles just as well, if not better, whilst having 5 doors and all of the other abilities too. If you're looking to get a QV, I'd make sure Michelin PS4S/PS5's are fitted, or get them fitted pretty quick, and I'd also fit an exhaust valve controller. My favourite thing about the car is the noise and it's a shame you have to turn on Race mode, disabling TSC, just to hear it throughout the rev range when stock. The car gets a lot of positive attention on the road, at fuel stations and when parked up - people love it, even if they don't know what it is. You can get a second hand QV with all the bells and whistles, with around 20k miles and a couple years old for £40-50k - which with the same deposit shown in the video would get you monthlies of £550-700 with the right broker (I used Charles & Dean but recommend Magnitude Finance for 6.9% too). Absolute steal of a price for what you get.

    • Until you're out of warranty and something goes bad. Then it quickly turns from your dream car into an absolute nightmare money pit. 510hp from 2.9l with that biturbo setup and all that modern efficiency and emissions crap really pushes the limits of what materials are able to withstand for much longer than warranty lasts. And it is not like an italian classic car from the seventies or eighties with a simple, mostly mechanical engine construction, that can always somehow be fixed with a bit of time and knowledge. I only have 2.0T giulia and the amount of hoses and wires surrounding the engine block are shocking. In accordance to todays conception of repairability and maintenance, having the powertrain consisting of large non-serviceable encapsulated components, a simple repair is not like in the old days. Plus alfas are true unicorns in the wild. So repairs are high$$$. Now having even two cylinders more, a second turbo and an even more complicated engine construction, more and extremely rare, expensive components that can go bad, was enough to convince me to go for a fresh four-banger instead of a high mileage quadrifoglio. If you cant afford it new, you cant afford to maintain it used.

    • Very true! But need a massive brave pill when out of warranty. I am shocked by the current finance prices. My 18 plate QV was costing me £800 a month with £5k down and then I was in positive equity when I handed it back. £1300 a month is an absolute joke. I drove the Quad when I was test driving to buy and whilst yes, it’s such a sweet engine and package, I couldn’t justify the extra spend and maintenance costs given I wouldn’t be able to enjoy its potential as much on the road without losing my licence. I found the Veloce to be such a sweet ride with enough power to have some fun so that’s my synopsis. Kind of similar to your review.

  • Great video and comparison! I’ve owned a 2017 and a facelift 2020 Veloce and do fair amount of business/personal mileage. The 2020 changes make the car easier to live with day-to-day (dynamic cruise, touch screen, improved slow speed steering) but the driving dynamics are much the same - excellent! I get 35mpg on my regular long (250 mile) motorway/A-road run in Normal/Eco modes and 23-28 on a spirited A/B road blast in a mix of Normal/Dynamic modes. The QV is my dream car, but for standard driving on UK roads the Veloce is damn near perfect and the 8-speed ZF gearbox is a delight to use. Plus the Giulia looks SO good compared to other equivalent makes and is a little more exclusive.

  • I have the TI Sport AWD with performance and sport packages. I found, much like other Giulia 2.0 owners, that the car really deserves a few quick and cheap upgrades to make it come alive: 1. Pedal Controller - really changes the throttle response characteristics and 2. JB4 Piggyback Tune - it gives the car that extra 30hp and 50tq that you mentioned in the video. It really makes the car what it should have been out of the factory. The best part is that the power is delivered the full duration of the powerband, which fixes the top end issue.

  • I leased a Giulia Estrema last year and it's been an incredible car. The handling, the steering are the best I've ever experienced, and the engine is definitely no slouch in the power department. However, after several months I found myself longing for a better sounding engine with more power. I always look back at my car, as it's gorgeous and I know how special it is. But its looks, its chassis and the overall package do demand more than the turbo 4. It's not all about the power - I would take an NA V6 producing roughly the same amount of power but with lower torque just to enjoy the sound. The biggest miss for Alfa was not having an in between trim with a turbo V6 that sits in lower price range than the QV. They also should have provided a much better factory exhaust on the 4 cylinder to improve the sound. Based on these minor issues I am moving to a QV in May. I just couldn't resist once I heard the news they are ending production. The Giulia chassis deserves a proper sounding engine that's all there is to it.

You don't need road tires that only work when they are warmed up. The engine is quite laggy off the line. In stock form, the throttle mapping is too aggressive on light throttle applications. Finally, the brake by wire takes a bit of getting used to. I have put a tune on mine to fix the throttle mapping, I also changed the brake pads and tires. This is by far the best car I have ever owned. The whole drivetrain is a masterpiece.

  • Very nice video! I have a MY2021 Giulia and I have to say they did a great job with fixing tons of issues after 2020. 280hp on this car are plenty, because is lighter than the QV and because the chassis is a Masterpiece, with the 50-50 distribution. I have a few friends with the QV but I never drove one yet. I know the QV is a lot of fun and excitement, but if you do not plan to play with your toy on a Track quite often, it is very difficult you can really push down the 510hp to a use, even in back roads. On the other end, i am able to enjoy my 280hp pretty much to the limit very often on back roads, and hell is nice :) It is true, the Giulia non QV is a lot of fun between the 30 and 90 mph, but obviously as soon as out pass the 90 mph, you know you are going to miss the extra boost the V6 is giving you. With that said, I have nimble accelerations on the highway and i find myself easily at 120mph even with the 4cil in line, I just have to downshift 2 gears if i want to take off as a rocket :) Bottom Line, i LOVE the Giulia, when my leasing is over in a couple of years I may evaluate to look for a USED QV, if I find it at an effordable price, it may be the right way to go :)

The only perplexing thing for me is that the difference between "A" and "N" is very small, but the shift from "N" to "D" is night and day (didn't realise that metaphor until writing it...). If you haven’t driven the car with them for comparison then you should, they are absolutely fantastic and completely change the feel of the car and the specialness of the cabin. I actually find them far more comfortable too! I will add that as with most cars, driving one with the ‘right spec’ makes all the difference. Having driven a lower spec one with the comfort seats, no ceramic brakes and no HK audio vs one the Sparcos, ceramic brakes and HK etc it makes a huge difference. Due to the responsible adult in me, I'm choosing Ti Sport. It is still very capable and gorgeous. Did not want to be another c class/3series on the road. Here in the US Giulia's are still very rare. No way I will ever use 500 HP daily or enough to make it worth the purchase. Plus gas is torched and tires shaved quickly with QV I'm told. I can afford the QV but I wonder if a guy like me, with just and ordinary drivers license and just a few days or racetrack instruction, would be safe in a car with that kind of power and performance. I’m thinking of getting the Giulia Competizione or Tributo Italiano instead because those have adaptive suspension.

  • The carbon seats are made by Sparco in Quadrifoglio (Sabelt in GTAm). Since they are thinner, they offer more rear leg room. Weight of the car is far from 1500 kg (this was stated by Alfa as a dry weight of Quadrifoglio with manual gearbox - no longer in production), real life weight is slightly over 1700 kg without the driver, so G80 M3 isn't actually that much heavier. Gearbox is ZF8, so the same as in G80 M3 and RS4/5, but it seems to indeed be programmed better.

    @serpenthx@serpenthx Жыл бұрын
    • I recently picked up a QV and test drove the g80 m3 (non x-drive) back to back at the time. Whilst I agree the actual kerb weight isn’t as different as some make out - the m3 felt significantly heavier on the test drive. Still a great car and I’ve always had BMW’s but the QV felt more engaging.

      @v1ktos@v1ktos Жыл бұрын
    • @@v1ktos Giulia feels lighter than it actually is, no doubt about that. One of the main reason for this is its sharp and fast steering, something a G80 isn't able to match. • I've had a Veloce for 9 months, MY2018. It's on 18 inch wheels with non RFT's. Absolutely, as an ex racer I'd love a QF but sadly with fuel prices the way they are and the increased running costs It's not an option. Strangely I don't miss having a manual, the 8 speed is outstanding and never feels wanting even at 10/10ths. In fact it's so good I rarely use the paddles. Of course the best aspect is the ride and handling. I'm lucky enough to live close to a lot of relatively quiet, challenging roads, some of which are less than smooth. The Veloce deals so well with them and never throws you around. You can drive it right to the edge and it still remains composed although it will definitely understeer when you're at the limit. No issues with brake feel although on downhill fast sections they will start to grumble and overheat. Traction in the dry is really good, a testament to the sophisticated suspension set up. In these days of car cams, unmarked police cars and PC, opportunities for hanging the tail out are fraught with paranoia, so I don't really miss having that option. You will have to drive very carefully to get over 30 mpg and the fuel gauge is not exactly linear - 3/4 showing is in reality close to half. The steering is excellent and the initial quickness soon feels natural. The build is not up to German standards but not flaky either. The parking sensors don't work, it had a battery draining issue which turned out to be the infotainment head unit and the rear discs were corroded. The last two are known issues. The nearside headlamp has a leak - also a known issue.

I have also added a throttle pedal amplifier and Eurocompulsion engine remap for about 320hp and much more torque. The EC tune also remaps the transmission and ESC program, resulting in smoother and faster shifting and less aggressive ESC intervention. I also added QV staggered wheels with summer rubber. The key to making a Veloce ESC not intervene is to add traction with tires, Q4 and ESC mods. This setup is nicely matched and makes the power and chassis feel perfectly balanced. @ParkersTV@ParkersTV Жыл бұрын
    • @@ParkersTV I get that people might want it on whilst on track, if that’s the case then Dynamic is great. It’s torque limited in 1st and 2nd so you don’t waste any power spinning up the rears but also have a relaxed safety net if you need it. Race mode is exactly that, it’s for drivers that don’t want any aids (though later cars do have a little ESC interruption even in Race) and want to get the most out of the car. I think there should be a button, similar to the suspension button, to open the exhaust valves fully in Dynamic to get the nice noises and not have to be faced with an impending accident if your not giving 100%. That way you won’t have people having to go into race mode just for the exhaust note. There are aftermarket fixes for this but it should be OEM

    • Ive had my 2020 QV for 6 months. It is a dream. I wouldn't trade it for an M3 or C63s My only complaints are those that have already been mentioned. I think the TC/ESC are too intrusive in Dynamic mode. Limiting torque in 1st and 2nd gear is disappointing. I think the germans do a better job of balancing power w the electronic safeties. I wish there was another perfomanc mode bw dynamic and race which engaged the esc/tc at less than 100% My cadillac ATS-V had multiple traction/esc settings and we know the M3 has dozens of settings (too many, really) but something in between fully on and Race mode would be nice on the QVs I mean even my Golf R had 3 ESC settings (on/50%/off). Anyway, I love the car but I think this is an issue for Alfa. No car is 100% perfect but the QV would vbe SUPER close to perfect w an additional mode... or maybe just a tweeked Dynamic mode.

The interior updates are nice but nothing to write home about. The new infotainment is only marginally better than in my 2017 - which, apart from the stereo and streaming, I rarely use anyway. The selector is better for sure but the centre console with exposed cup holder sucks - much nicer in the 2017 with the retractable tray to hide the cup holders. The headrests in the 2020 are super squashy and firm in my 2017 The steering of the Veloce is great but the suspension set up is totally different. The biggest differences are the power delivery and the handling. The QV literally sucks the ground - you feel glued to the road and it’s a feeling you don’t get in the Veloce. The Veloce but I take a second hand QV over a new Veloce any day.
