  • I've had a 1.2 Puretech 130 (GT Line Premium) for the past year and it has been excellent. I do lots of motorway miles (400+ miles/day) and regularly achieve 50+mpg on trips. It's comfortable and quiet on trips and there are zero rattles/squeaks after 13,000 miles. The seats really are comfortable and the heated element has 3 settings, with the top one being pretty hot! I've had back injuries in the past so I find the massage function and electronic lumbar support really helpful on longer trips. For a front-wheel drive only option, It has been remarkable in the numerous bouts of snow we've had this past winter, and even without the 'grip-control' (mine is manual rather than auto-gearbox so doesn't get grip-control) it simply grips and goes - my wife even wanted to borrow it on a couple of occasion for her commute when the snow was bad. I know there's lots of talk about the i-cockpit set up and the steering wheel potentially blocking some of the dials - I'm 5ft 9ins and have absolutely no issues. Even with the steering wheel in its highest setting it doesn't block anything at all. Having said that, I do have the seat a little higher, which also gives the benefit of a better view out - I can't see the point of having an SUV and sitting on the floor; it is after all, not a sports car! I have the keyless tailgate option, which works 5 times out of a 100, and is pretty frustrating. You can pop the boot by holding down the button on the fob for 2 secs which does the job and you can also open/close it from inside the car, which is handy when someone is getting something out of the boot in the rain and you don't want to get out! I'm not sure what the reviewer was quibbling about with the auto-wiper function - that simply isn't an issue and I'm not sure why you'd find it 'annoying' that it doesn't remember that setting? (Just sounds like something to moan about to me?) I have never found the car lacking in power and a 1.2L 130hp petrol engine in this size car really is remarkable, particularly for the fuel economy. The pre-facelift model I have sees the i-cockpit being a little 'laggy' when you're changing functions, but I've gotten used to it. I'm not sure I agree with the reviewer's recommendation to simply use Apple Car Play or Andriod Auto? The Tom-Tom unit fitted to the car has live updates and there has been a couple of occasions in the past year when I've been using Google Maps on ACP and it hasn't shown particular road works on the map (travelling after 10pm, when there are often scheduled road works on the A1/M1, etc) when the Tom-Tom does. You can't push Google Maps onto the digital driver's display either, but you can with the built-in Tom-Tom. The only downside to the infotainment system is that it can be slow to boot, especially the map. I save regular long-trip destinations in 'favourites' on Tom-Tom so that helps with the loading speed, but just booting the system is frustratingly slow. The suspension is soft, but not soggy. The roads where I live are terrible and it rides over them without any crashes through the floor or rattles/squeaks from interior panels. I had a Ford Kuga before this one and the Peugeot 5008 is generally more comfortable and the fuel economy with the Kuga was grim! With family in, I can't chuck it around like a sports car, anyway, as they suffer from travel sickness, but even when on my own, there's plenty of grip at speed through the corners without excessive body-roll. There's loads of storage space around the place, though the glove box is pretty useless. The storage under the floor in the second row is useful. Overall, this is a cracking car if you're considering one and highly recommended. Oh, one final thing: the app that you can download for the car is pretty hit & miss - I've complained to Peugeot that it rarely connects automatically via Bluetooth, and therefore doesn't record the journey. I also have a 2015 Peugeot 308SW, and that connects pretty much every time. Small complaint.

    • I have just ordered a 21 plate GT Premium 1.2 auto. I can't wait :) I do a lot of driving too and after being a nurse for 37 years, I also have dodgy discs. I tend to buy French cars but never a Peugeot before. I have a Renault Koleos now and love it. I would have had another but Renault stopped importing them last year (again).

    • That said, this seems like a really lovely car. I’m trying to find a European country where I can just buy a car as a tourist (for a year+ visit), no residence permit (yet), as you can in the US and UK. Would you have any suggestions? Seems like Sweden, Germany and Switzerland might do. In 4 months or so, I should have a residence permit and long term visa (it takes awhile to get approved), but I can’t imagine not having a car immediately. Too many kids to haul around. Likely much cheaper to explore Europe with a decent car.

    • Hi, useful post Warren. Can you comment on how the car drives when full (7 persons + luggage) with the 1.2? Does it struggle or is it fine?

      @naumanshah100@naumanshah1003 жыл бұрын
    • @@naumanshah100 I’ve actually never had 7 people in it. I have, however, had 5 with a full boot of luggage to go on holiday and it was fine. You can obviously feel the extra weight but it never feels gutless or massively underpowered. I wouldn’t be driving overly fast with a full car anyway as my family get travel sick and at ‘normal’ speeds the car is absolutely fine when full (though can’t comment on 7 people).

  • About auto-wipers.... I drive 508... and when I bought it I was annoyed with this function as well... but! Situation when the car was covered with snow explained me why! If it remained automatic even then then wipers would start working on car start and probably would damage the wiper engine or whatever... so... its actually clever thinking... though, I still don't like algorithm of auto-wiper system working at all... too much speed related, rather than how much rain there is related...

    @tjanjic1@tjanjic13 жыл бұрын
  • The reason why the 5008 can’t be had as a plug-in hybrid like the smaller 3008 is probably because the batteries in the hybrid versions of the 3008 are also where the 3rd row seats would be in the 5008 - in the boot floor, meaning there wouldn’t be enough room for both the batteries and the third-row seats.

    @paulcluett9239@paulcluett92393 жыл бұрын
  • Actually the biggest technical improvements in the facelift, besides the visual differences, are the advanced drive assists. The previous model only has simple lane assist, which triggers only when you're trying to leave the lane without indicator, adaptive cruise control with stop function (min speed 30 km/h) and speed signs recognition. In the facelift semi-autonomous driving is introduced - there are active lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop & go function and advanced traffic signs recognition - one-way streets, forbidden overtaking, etc. That said, I just got the previous model MY19 1.6 180 petrol EAT8 and I am really satisfied with everything for the moment and I think this is the only feature of the facelift that I might miss. Generally speaking, in long-term perspective I believe the digital cockpit and screen would age worst and in 5-10 years wouldn't look really attractive and possibly would become even more sluggish.

    @x3merx3mer@x3merx3mer3 жыл бұрын
    • Not really ridiculous. Without an AWD system and interior space sacrifices one can easily make it very small. The question is... why? Every competitor has more boot or rear seat space and AWD and those elements are why most get an SUV to start with!

      @afcgeo882@afcgeo8823 жыл бұрын
    • @@afcgeo882 not really, NONE of competitors have more space in the boot (even a lot bigger ones like Sorento = 600l vs 1000l by their own numbers) and none is significantly roomier in 3rd row (if at all). So why not take a bit smaller one? I do need a large car since I have 3 kids, but I also do need to drive around town and park in tight spaces sometimes, where every cm counts.

  • Thank you for your review and your thoughts about the redesigned 5008. I do like Peugeot cars and I find the front facelift a strong point on this model. It looks cleaner, more mature, more modern too. I could say the same of the 3008 too. But one thing I never liked about the 5008 is the rear and the 3/4 view. It just doesn't work for me, the proportions don't seem right, while it works well on the 3008. Front and interior are nice, but the profile and rear unfortunately put me off. I can't wait to discover the new 308, which will be the first Peugeot to come with the redesigned logo. I hope you will get a chance to review this new car for us. Thank you for your work and sharing your love for cars!

    • My thoughts exactly, while 3008 is a great looking suv, 5008 is just an ugly car ( speaking for back ). But still, tomorrow i will get one - i have 2 kids and a dog and simply need a bigger car. Inside Peugots are unbelievable good looking and i could buy Volvo xc60 but still went for this one - i pick all the options and i will pay 47k eur here in Slovenia, quite a lot for Peugeot but inside just convinced me:)

  • I wish they would have made this car a bit longer behind the rear wheels... even 10 cm would have been ok, that way you would have some actual room for something behind the third row and that way it would only be a little shorter than the sorento. • Nice review... and a good looking interior for the driver. Two things I found that others might not have noticed: You say to use Android auto for sat nav but keep in mind that you can't route plan if you go through an area without data reception. I also found that it sometimes tries to re-plan when you drive along and suddenly you're without a route if you happen to have no data at that moment. Secondly, I hadn't thought it through but if you regularly need to carry more than 5 people it's not very convenient in this type of car... well if you need to carry their luggage too as with all the seats up there's precious little boot space. Perhaps that's obvious for other people. I did manage two weeks away with 6 of us in a VW Caddy (the larger one) which did over 50mpg in diesel guise and still doesn't cost the earth. On the down side it drives more like a van and has a lot less attractive interior.

It looks like this one is wider than the Kia Sorento and the Hyundai Santa Fe given that it has three individual seats in the middle row, which sounds very spacious in theory. Yet, you seem to think that the other ones are more spacious. Which car would you recommend to a family that needs to fit two adults and three children seated in children seats (age 1, 3 and 6)? For example, driver + 1 year old in front row, adult on one side + 3 year old in middle seat + 6 year old on the side.

    @x3merx3mer@x3merx3mer3 жыл бұрын
    • Much of the boot volume as measured currently comes from above the rear seat back/cargo cover, meaning it’s space rarely used. The baggage test measures actual usable space that’s actually used. The Q5’s boot slopes heavily above that seat back line, reducing its total volume count by a lot. The Peugeot is very squared off instead. However, you can still fit the same baggage in... unless you are to stuff them fully to the roof.

  • I bought a brand new 5008 in January last year. I was sold the dream of the pop up seats but they are on an aggressive hing/spring mechanism which can cause the rollers to jump out of the rail and means it can't be folder flat or put into a seat position so it becomes an obstacle in the boot in an apex position. Peugeot and The dealership are aware of this and there is no way to repair this other than replace the seat completely at a cost of over £1,000. Personally I would not advise anyone to buy this car.

    • Early versions were blowing turbo coz of a few design weaknesses plus a stupidly high mileage oil interval of 25k miles. Halve that or even better service at a third of that and it lasts a million miles even with the weaknesses.

    • @@GeordiLaForgery Owners can aak whatever they want, but if a dealer is giving you a figure of how much it will cost you to operate your vehicle, they’re lying. They’re lying because they, just like everyone else, don’t know. A dealer will make anything up to sell a car. The cost of scheduled service is NOT the cost of ownership, dufus! The cost of ownership is a comparative number that includes the price of the vehicle, the per mile fuel cost, per month cost of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and cost of insurance and road tax. While some of that is possible to project accurately (cost of car, road tax and insurance), the unscheduled maintenance and exact fuel economy is unpredictable.
