Would you have let it go or kept holding on? Where is everyone watching from? 🌎
Utah. Reminds me of a fully submerged smaller fishing boat with outboard we spotted in clear waters near the dam on Lake Powell. Very erie. People die out there every year, often by cliff jumping.
Michigan. Where people know how to pilot their boats!
Hey at least the 2 guys tried, captain did nothing!!! From The Netherlands...
Oh my word! 😮
@@SeanHendersonMe too.
How many bloody boaters went flying past without even slowing down?!
I didn't see any blood.
South Florida operations normal
That was the first thing that stood out to me not even a check to see if they were OK
Seriously! What the heck?
Exactly! In Australia you'd never drive past someone clinging to a sinking boat without helping to get them off and throwing a PDF to them. Must be too scared of lawsuits there.
The amount of people who ignored someone clinging to a sinking boat and continued past is bloody disgraceful.
exactly, I would have idled near by in case he fell in. How is it he did not have a flotation device on?
Even the lack of self-preservation from the other boaters is crazy. There could be debris just below the surface or another object that wrecked the sinking boat.
Or even an other boat he collided with. @@rhone81
NO RENDERING ASSISTANCE , MAYBE THE. COAST GUARD NEEDS TO ENACT BOATING RULES ??????
This is Miami and 100% normal.
As someone who spent 10 years as a Rescue/Recovery Diver on a dive team, if you boat starts sinking, step #1 is . . . . PUT ON A FREAKING PFD!!!
lol
Wow I can't believe boats just drive by without trying to help him. Discussing .
Now who would go and do a thing like that?
Go be with the fishys lil boat😊
@@klinestillthere’s supposed to be one on the boat
Big shout out to all the boaters offering assistance.
All none of them
@@falcon4548. F. U. The floriduh motto. And it’s not the university.
Yep@@falcon4548
None of these boners are gonna let you ruin their day, all the people I stopped to help on the water, they all said you’re the only boat that stopped to offer assistance, and I would say well how many boats passed you up and they would say about 100 !!! south west Florida boaters are a bunch of selfish bastards, totally different up on Lake Erie
Right? Disgusting
That boating community.. I tell ya a real tight nit group😂 Who needs enemies when...
The amazing thing is boats are just passing by like it’s nobody’s business.
it isnt everyones business. rubber neckers are the worst. nobody needs to stop and see whats going on causing traffic.
I think Mr Michaels was thinking more on the order of offering assistance, not pulling up to watch.
This is Florida!
Good thing he had his life jacket on 😊
That was the new and improved T-shirt Floatation Device
Nice to see all the boats passing by and no one stopping to offer assistance to get the man off the boat. Floridah
They did offer up some nice wakes to hasten the sinking a little.
Captain going down with the ship is a real one
He’s still looking for the drain plug…
@@RustyZipper I was wondering the same thing? Occasionally that has taken place where we boat; However, while the dude was parking the truck whoever was holding the boat began yelling before it sank. PS The reason before hooking my boat to the truck I checked the engine oil, disconnected the trickle chargers, and installed the drain plug...
HAULOVER has been my entrance to the intracoastal since 1974 or about. If you are a new boater to Haulover I strongly suggest use caution especially for smaller craft. Currents, tides and wind can get very tricky. I have a 63' Hatteras and I still to this day have full respect for this inlet even with 50 years of experience.
wow ... even on a 63 Hat ... when I was young in the mid 70s going out of it in a non self bailing 17 ft speed boat was a scary and unforgettable experience
Thats not haul over
@@rayo1371 He said "respect' Haulover not go over Niagara in a barrel. Lol
All those boats that went by without rendering aid.
Pretty sure by law you must. I always have...
Shout out to the skipper who never let go of the vessel and wrestled it the entire time. He actually helped it from bottoming out.
All I can think of is the song "I will go down with this ship, I won't put my hand up and surrender"

Verse 2.. I caused too much trouble...🎼🎶🎵😅😅 I left too much destruction to come back again..🎼🎶🎵
I'd held on and maybe tied it to the spools behind. There's a HUGE cost difference between a semi floating recovery and taking the boat off the bottom, it's almost 10 fold difference.
That's right
Then the cable spool would be in the water with the boat.
Dude chilling at 3:32 . No problem here. 😂
He must be exhausted to be fair after holding with all his might for so long
He wants Gilligan to draw him like one of his French girls
Where is your PFD Captain? And there tow guys sure have the skills.
White shirt dude had some spidey-strength
Always better if you can keep some part of your boat out of the water, more recoverable that way. As-is, probably fixable, might not be worth it, but, it wasn't under for that long, and it didn't get banged up on the bottom of the channel. Also, once they get it to drydock, the drain plugs are already pulled, so, should drain out quite nicely ;)
The Drain Plug Mafia Strikes Again Thanks for sharing as always my friend Be well 👍🤙
What amazes me is no one else stopped to try and aid assistance. In my local waters, everyone would have stopped to ask if you need help.
Mistakes are made, accidents happen. Some are plain stupid, some suffer from unbelievably bad luck. That's not nice, but it's how life goes. If we help each other, we can get over almost everything. What the hell is wrong with Florida? Why are so many boats just passing by when another boat is in the most obvious destress and the life of the captain is at risk? How is that even possible? Helping each other has been the very basic behavior that has been keeping societies together for tens of thousands of years. Helping sailors in distress has always been THE sacred duty of everybody who's even remotely involved in seafaring, including people living on the coast. Not so in Florida?
"Freedom" Floriduh. Free to pass by someone in need.
Plugs need to be screwed in before you put your boat in the water. lol Love all the help and how people just fly by making it even rougher. Where's your vest Captain Tom. ??? If he would have fallen into the water , Davies Locker was close by. Captain gets a 10 out of 10 for being not very bright.
Americans aren't bright.
He was just standing there watching as the other man was holding the rope before getting it tied off. That's a good indication of what kind of person he probably is.
One line would snap. genius ideas are bountiful.
The amount of boats just swinging on by making waves is insane!
LOL - yeah, hold on to that rope fellas, you can certainly lift that entire boat.
I think they were just helping the captain get off the boat by holding the rope, not trying to pull the boat out
The Captain always goes down with his ship!
Not the captain of the Oceanos!
Unless you're Italian or Greek! 😂
Cant believe the ignorance and lack of caring for another's life, as other boats just cruise on by and fail to stop and try and help, even when the Captain is still clinging to the boat.
i definitely would have held on to the rope to keep other boats from possibly hitting it when it completely went under.
Those boaters were not concerned or helpful.
@@katiejo1095 Only mention about other boaters was that if the guys holding onto the rope let go, the boat could have drifted out into the channel and been hit by unconcerned boaters.
That little hole in the back definitely gets a plug before entering the water. Some people put it on the outside because it's easier to get to.
Just renewed my insurance and membership with BoatUS on my boat this past week.
Whether Towboat US or Seatow …they DO NOT cover Salvage as part of the Membership. The boat in this video was a salvage when they arrived on scene.
They do if you opt for salvage on your insurance policy @@rileypup5959
You could tell by his movements that captain was exhausted. And, probably really close to being in trouble. And, boaters just zooming by and either oblivious or without any empathy for a fellow human being in trouble at all.
good observations . another one I make is ..the brain-surgeon captain not wearing a life jacket
Why would people in other boats not be going over there to make sure he gets off? It also looks like they could use some more lines to try and tie it off to those large spools behind them. Unbelievable
A little back story would help to answer the questions, is the hull intact? what was the cause of the sinking etc.
☝️ this. Where's the beginning of the video? Y'all have every other boat coming in or out of there on camera like twice, lol 🙃🤪
I'd bet the house on the drain plugs not being installed.
It was a submarine getting ready for a Titanic dive. No problem
The old saying the captian goes down with the ship would have been modified to be the captian goes to shore and watches his ship go down
Did the captain forget the plugs? Bummer
Looks like the one guy tried his level best to get the boat floating again. 😂
You guys have a lot of tow/salvage company s ..and are doing good business going off watching these videos. We have only couple cost guard boats an local water police.
I don't understand the logic of the quad set-up. It's way too heavy and unstable, but that seems to be the fashion of the day, like wearing pants pulled down to the knees
i was waiting for grady judd to pop his head up threw the water, IM HERE !!!
He would need a long neck to do that.
He had 2 dudes helping and he looked fit and agile enough, i've got no problem with him staying onboard.
That had to be a rather expensive day on the water.....or shall I say, in the water.......
A $2 stern plug was overlooked. Kind of an expensive mistake. It’s #1 on my boat launch checklist.
I heard that if you have a boat with a small hole, you make a bigger hole to let the water out faster than its coming in.
Moe Larry Cheese !!!!
Lol
I can’t believe those people passed by and none of them tried to help. God bless those 2 men that were there and able to help him or else it may have been worse. Thanks to all that helped and no one was hurt..had it been a few more mins the boat would have went completely under.
The Drain Plug Mafia Strikes again...he shoulda paid Vito....
Life jacket would be a good idea
And not one boat tried to help. Shame Florida boating
There was a bunch of boat traffic before help arrived. Not one boat stopped. 🤷♂
Especially the people looking towards the cameras they kept sailing on by …
@@WavyBoatsthere is no one in the water.. what is there to do?… notice Sea Tow and others didn’t touch anything or get close until salvage was negotiated… once you get involved in such a situation, you kind of take on responsibility for what happens afterwards!.. no thanks
Did he forget the drain plug?
Most likely
Curious how much the Salvage cost Vs value of the boat, sentimental and monetary?
Did he forget the plug?😮😮
That's a good question - are you better off letting it sink and write it off to collect the insurance or refloat and refit. I'm guessing it depend on the boat and circumstances, so I doubt there's a general rule that applies. But maybe I'm wrong and it's best to let 'em sink.
Even if it sinks, the owner has to recover it because of environmental reasons. Either that or the government will do it for you and send a bill.
You will accrue $fines$...Can't Leave a submerged boat in a major boating channel. It Will cause hull damage to boats hitting it, running over it, etc.
They certainly dont need a fire truck, they need a tow truck and pull it up.
I have TowboatUS included with my marine insurance. I can't imagine not having it.
A small price to pay for whenever you should need it.
another florida mans displaying his prowess
Why are other vessels 🚢 simply sailing by and not stopping to assist?
And what would they do? Deploy their cranes and pick the boat out of the water?
It's Flori-Duh.....
Florida, you're on your own and nobody cares.
@@MBarker397I don’t care if they had to take some time from their precious time to lend a fellow HUMAN a hand. It would have been easier for the captain to get onto another boat than onto that pier. 3 boats went by basically leaving that man to possibly die from any aspect, going down with his boat, hypothermia who knows what. It’s the same thing with an accident on the roadway, get off your lazy ass and at least ask if you can help.. I F’ING HATE PEOPLE.
@@MBarker397 too funny. But so true
“Boat loss due to not putting in the plug” the owner 🤦♂️
Did you see him slip several times that is why I say you always have to wear boat shoes when you're on a boat. I don't mean for situations like this at all times I've seen so many people fall especially on power boats because they weren't wearing boat shoes that can grip the deck 100 times better than bare feet. I didn't let people on Deck without boat shoes if you want to go barefoot sit in the salon
I’m wondering if any alcohol was involved the way he kept slipping.
@@veiledallegoryI take it you've never soaped up a slide and tried to climb up the wrong way?
To me I think a LIFE JACKET would have made more sense
@@meak13that’s what she said 😅
@dystopian.. I have owned boats for over 60 years from 12 ft to 40ft and the only time I've ever wore a life jacket was when the Coast Guard made me . I made the young kids wear them until they got older. Just about no boater wears a life jacket except old ladies and people like you
Can you use a boat that have been under water like this again or is everything considered destroyed?
My understanding, from talking to friends with boats, is all the electronics and wiring would be ruined. Including inside the engines. So you'd basically have to gut the boat and have it redone. Depending how old the boat is it might not be worth it.
@@MaXGTS1 The engine will be salvageable, as long as it wasn't running when it went under.
Generally yes, but like all things boat, open wallet and cry. Engine might be mechanically ok, provided it wasn't running when it sucked water. Anything electronic is likely toast, so, you'll have to check every bit of wire and replace alot of it. The hull should be fine, and you don't have to worry about corrosion with this brief of a submersion, provided you get it out of the water quickly, and hose everything off with fresh water. Overall, expensive, but, probably still cheaper than a new boat. Insurance may or may not cover it, because they likely left the drain plugs out which caused it to sink...
@@jttech44 but when it comes to selling it and a buyer wants full history on it the resale value is nearly zero.
I wonder how big of a ticket he got from the sea pirates, as if his day wasn't bad enough!!!
Heartbreaking sight
Looks like the current carried the beer cooler away dam I could really use a beer right now.
Love how folks just motor on by
Nice to see all the boaters coming by to help 😂
😂the chap holding the rope, only froze.
Good work. Yes hold on
Cleveland, Ohio here. As a lifelong boater on the Great Lakes and some right in your area of South Florida I've seen stuff like this before. Tough call..no captain wants to lose their boat whether it's a dinghy or a 100+ yacht, but you have to realize your life is more important and your boat is insured.
Gawd, did he luck out that they got to it before it was swept out to sea.
At this point, why bother? I guess they did the right thing to tie it off. Other boats might have hit it.
Thank God, Fire Units have arrived. Now they can put the fire out.
poor little boat
A good Captain goes with the boat down
Yes, the captain must go down with his ship!
I smashed the like button and my iPad broke! Thanks!!
That blue boat at the end of the video is so pretty
A pretty hand bag. Can't fish off it, not any range, rubbish to overnight on.
You would think someone would think someone would invent airbags that would automatically inflate when sinking like cars do in accidents.
You may be on to something. I’ll be looking for you on Shark Tank.
Boats unstable soo djbt knkw hiw thus gaspened
They've existed for years on helicopters. They're expensive and having high PSI canisters onboard around fuel isn't viable for a recreational boater.
If the entire boat was not completely submerged, did it really sink?
Depending on what caused it to sink, it's too bad he didn't have a longer line to have tried to tie off to one of those reels...but then, would the line have held the weight of the boat...I think he did as much as he probably could in the circumstances.
Luckily he has someone Holding a rope to keep it afloat
By law, the Captain MUST go down with the ship. Know your facts!
"THE PLUG!!!!" is written at a local boat ramp near me.
Hello from Brentwood California
Hello from Long Island
Never forget to check the drain plug "before" you launch your boat.
Captain of the sinking boat appears to be lacking in some skills, namely standing on a sunken boat while being towed and not wearing a pfd. I’m guessing the sheriff has a few summonses for him.
It's hilarious watching people try to get out of the water when they can't actually hold their own body weight
So you have a 3 ton boat with about another ton of water in it and these 3 geniuses think they can pull it out of the water with a rope. The mind boggles !
Are tow boat operators more ethical than predatory tow truck drivers on land?
Worse
@@jeffklem7737Not saying you’re wrong but how so?
It gets pretty complicated, but there are different variables. Paid member vs non-member. Rescue versus Salvage and also, which company arrives on seen 1st
If you have a membership, it's NBD. If you don't have a membership, it's a pretty expensive endeavor.
This is why the gym is important
Easier to refloat than to dredge it up from the bottom. Besides, who knows where it would have drifted in that current??
It’s fun to see the rich people boats sometimes. However, it would be nice to see some of the boats on this channel that us average people run like the old inboard/outboard boats that are still making it happen.
He was trying to save his fish finder :)
I couldn't believe the amount of boats that just drove on by like nothing to sea here! Unbelievable
That a race boat at the end there? Sweet
If ever there was a time to wear a life preserver, that was it.
The little bay boat sinking in the beginning was not ran by a captain. It was a plaeasure boater, or as known in the commercial industry, " A Urinal Owner."
The winning combo of dedication and stupidity.
Ships have captains. This is some dude crashing a boat in his free time.
