Kudos to the boat that got hit and then helped get the towed boat to the dock. Could have lost their cool and made the situation worse but realized what the situation was and made it better. Good job!

It's common courtesy to have your boat ready and launch when you back up to the ramp. Same goes for when you come back. Get out of the way for other boaters. If its busy, unload in the parking lot.
Sounds like a ramp marshall is a great idea. Along a clear set of right-of-way rules.
We used to have one of those at my local boat launch, but because the launch was on our side of the county line despite half the lake being in the other county where a large city sits, the city demanded the ramp marshal yet demanded my county/town pay for him rather than split the costs as they originally proposed. We wouldn’t pay the full amount since it is 80% of the people who use our ramp and our lake are the city people. Plus we would have had no say on who our ramp marshal would be.
I'd like to see gloves and a ring at every boat ramp, sort it out the old fashioned way!

I had a slip at a Marina before or I will not boat on the weekends, no way I'm dealing with this drama. People act like the boat ramp is their private dock, completely inconsiderate of others.

It’s Miami boat ramp. It’s mandatory to come to dock unprepared without dock lines ready. Passengers usually stay seated and captains leave the helm.

I used to have a job, ripping up fiberglass boats, an putting them in a container for a landfill. At 6:36, that looks like a Wellcraft 24 walk around cuddy. That was the hardest boat I had to crush! The super structure came off in one piece. I was dropping a 5 ton piece of concrete on the upside down hull, and IT BOUNCED OFF! It took me almost an hour, using a heavier piece of concrete block to finally crush the hull. Was glad I only had to do one! Newer boats are junk compared to the older ones.

If you’re going to tow someone, hip tow. It gives you more control over the disabled vessel.
I've towed many boats to the dock, not one was hip towed.

I have 50yrs of boating in Michigan. From 15ft to 40ft. What should have been a 3 1/2 hour drive to Indian River, took 7hrs (accidents). I was towing my 24ft SeaRay, the sun was going down. Launched it, parked the trailer, drove about half mile to our cabin. Tied up, I forgot to put the plug in. It was filling up quick. I grabbed my swim mask and flashlight, plug & wrench, jumped in the river with clothes on!!! Sun's down & boat is getting lower in the water, but I did it. I made sure that never happened again. 🙂

as fish said, it happens to the best of us, I boat on a river and it amazes me how many people will not jump in and put the plug in, instead they think driving the boat back to the dock is the solution, we had one where a boater did that and several of us around him jumped in and stuck tree branches in the drain plug to stop the flow of water. I always carry a spare drain plug and tools on my boat just in case.
More than half of those people out there are drunk it's that simple don't forget to let the people out there know about it😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

If you're launching alone, the current makes a huge difference.

yep, when I used public boat ramps I would launch where the current pushed me away from the dock and pushed me into the dock when coming in.

North Carolina ducks are always a little bit more chill. If you’ve launched your boat and you need assistance in someway people eagerly come and help you without being judgmental least not your face anyway, instead of being confrontational.

Tell him to pay attention to the designated launching ramps, indicated on the signage. Designated launch ramps are 1, 7, and 8. He was trying to push someone to leave ramp 2 so he could launch there, which is the wrong ramp to launch from. He is 100% at fault.
im absolutely stunned that its possible for someone to make it past childhood, and also be too stupid to have ANY type of rope tied to his boat as he approached a pier. how... how is that even possible?

People are dumb. You see them in huge swells with small boats and no PFDs or docking with no lines or fenders. Idiocy.

It’s so funny because tow insurance is so cheap. It’s even an option with some insurances. I have a brand new boat and I have already had to get my boat towed

Ha ha, sometimes people shouldn't be at the helm in the first place. I'd rather see a guy fall in the drink reaching for the dock (no destruction) rather than doing the wrong thing with a throttle (major destruction).

I thought boats coming in have priority.
There are designated ramps for launching and returning. Ramps 1, 7, and 8 are for loading as per the sign on the right side. Fisherman joe (I think his name is) was trying to launch on Ramp 2 which was not only in use, but not the proper ramp to launch from.
