People have tampered with and damaged my regular auto. Flying cars would need serious security measures. Not to mention the Hacking factor if its largely computer operated. A lot of ifs. Wouldnt mind having one though. You dont need no mistakes or outside interference that high in the air.

  • You must ask yourself if you believe they have overcome extreme weather flying. Can these fly in simple High Winds? How about normal rainy days? If NO then you need to be wealthy enough to buy one for strictly fair weather days. Plus the battery power only last 20-30 minutes with distances reached not very far at all. Now add that info to bad weather days.

    • I concur however, there are passenger drone flights as we speak. Admittedly, there is work to do but I have followed this innovation from the early/most recent inception. I have the feeling we may just pass each other up there one day. Prayerfully, it will be in stable flight, as opposed to 1 of us rapidly descending. Remain grateful that we can "take to the skies, see the earth become small and fall away beneath us..." Safe travels

    • Flying cars, like the Voyager X2, have begun testing flights in extreme environments and high altitudes. However, factors such as weather conditions and battery life, which currently lasts up to 35 minutes, are indeed challenges that need to be addressed for practical and widespread use. I have confidence that technology will prevail. Great questions!

  • IMHO, a flying car that might become the wave of the future should have an ample passenger compartment, not be especially bulky, and ideally, be drivable on the street - thus it should be sturdy in a car crash. Those Terra Fuega cars seem promising by that standard. I like the way the airplane parts fold up on the Klein, and besides, it has a kewl spoiler. The Bellwether seems to be doing a lot of things right, but has a small passenger compartment - and eVTOL sounds like evil (desirable mostly for self-described elites, I guess). It also doesn't look like it drives on the street, although it's not a must. The ASKA seems bulky, the Joby fragile, the Renault seems to need a lot of landing and take-off room, although not necessarily a stopper. The PAL-V is a tricycle, and we know from those little three and four-wheel mini-bikes that they had to ban the three-wheel variety because they kept turning over. The Aeromobile seems feasible. The Alef might work fine, but seems like it wouldn't have much use for luggage. One of those cars autopilots you the whole way. Unlike a car crash, when you crash in one of those, you also have the fall to earth to add to your injuries. I have always liked the idea of Autogyros, since they can land you safely when you run out of gas; but the #11 looks fragile. I think we need two kinds: one that needs pilots licenses, and you have to file flight plans, and another that might follow all your steering commands, but stop you if you do anything dangerous - and thus be virtually fool-proof. Pure auto-pilot ones would also fall in this fool-proof category, with limited controls. Such computer-driven cars could also be maliciously made to crash, via hacking or backdoors in the programming.

    • @@jamesaron1967 The V-22 tiltrotor does have a terrible safety record, and it's operated and maintained to the highest standards by the military. However, there is a civilian commercial tiltrotor that cane out of that, which has been in development for decades. It actually flies and is quite real. It has been passed through several different major aerospace companies and is currently at Agusta-Westland (a helicopter company). For some reason it is taking forever to get it certified and on the market. This is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AgustaWestland_AW609 and there are tons of (real) videos. It will probably cost $60,000,000 to buy, and $10,000,000 to maintain each year. And will require a specially rated pilot. And it's not in any sense a car. But it's real and cool. There is another company that has something similar but only in development. The prototype has never flown: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_Next-Generation_Civil_Tiltrotor Meanwhile, the Joby (and they most of the press but also have a direct competitor whose name escapes me) is an electric micro ultra-short-range (15 minute ride) helicopter. Requires a pilot. It will never be sold -- only used by the company in an "air taxi" (heliport) operation around NYC. So that's sort of real. But it's not a car, either, just a really bad super expensive helicopter. Also, unlike a helicopter (which can glide, most people don't realize), if anything goes wrong in the Joby, you just crash and die a horrible ball of flame. But hey, it's electric! And besides they say nothing can go wrong. Enjoy! You can book an ordinary helicopter ride on Uber now, by the way. And it comes with an Uber to and from the airport/heliport. That's as close to actual flying cars as we're gong to get any time in the next 50-100 years.

  • The world today can build an air vehicle that can carry anyone from anywhere to anywhere. But if every body has one of those air vehicles, air lines will lose customers and air ports will be empty, people can be anywhere they wish, the skies will be busy, mid-air collisions will occur, mid-air shooting crimes you name it, and any other stuff imaginable can happen. All these are reasons why this industry is ON-HOLD

    @whitepage1472@whitepage14726 ай бұрын
    • It's not on hold... It's just suffering for a lack of suitably dense energy storage options. And aviation grade redundant control systems. At the point where someone makes an electric Vtol vehicle with more than 30-40mins of range, we will see them flying around places like Dubai. If you've ever flown a drone, you probably know current control computers are not something to trust with your life. I think the limitations are purely technological at this stage.

  • For me, a flying car has to be vertical takeoff......from ANYWHERE. I don't want to have to take it to the airport to fly it. That would just be a plane that you can also drive home and put in your driveway. I don't want to have to have a pilot license to fly/drive it either. Terrafugia TF-X for the win!!! Alef Model A is in 2nd place for me. I really like the long range option best. I was also thinking that for 1 of the EV models, maybe they could make it so driving it on wheels will recharge the batteries. So, let's say you go on a long journey, and the batteries get low, and you don't want to have to stop, so you have a gas engine driving the wheels and when you have driven long enough to recharge the batteries, you can take off into the skies again.

As for the companies working on flying cars, here are a few that are making significant strides: Alef Aeronautics, Archer Aviation, and a few others are aggressively trying to turn the idea into reality. Let's see how soon the emerging technologies and innovation takes to turn the flying car into the norm. I am excited and hopeful....

    • The Moller air car was a fantasy and a scam. It was around for decades though, bilking people for money. The more things change....

  • Flying car regulation should only be driven outside cities and outside major towns with tall buildings. Must be at least 30 yrold to even acquire a vehicle like this with a pilot license.

  • Yap, all these are luxury devices which, whatever the material cost drops will be, will always carry tons of stuff for each passenger, at Megawatt consumption, not at all a joy for environment. The only real, low-cost, high-efficiency machine out of this (to me, most of them, useless developments) remains the first presented, the good, 80 years old autogyro.
