The slim looks like one of those fake PS5s you’d buy from Wish
That center piece isn’t doing it favors I would put a carbon fiber strip over it asap
This is just the best way to describe it 😂
😂
They want us to buy the Pro instead
Facts
The moveable disk drive is one of best thing happened in consoles..i remember the days in old playstation era where the drive is always broke when playing games..so much cost is spend mostly in the disk drive..as nowadays internal hardrive and SSD is a thing..so the disk drive maybe will be less used and make it live long..but having an option to just easily replaced the drive makes things much more convenient..
The connector which connects to disk drive if that brakes Ur done for lol
@@thealien_ali3382never heard of soldering right?
@@thealien_ali3382 then don’t break it
More convenient for sony to get more money
@@ClosestNearUtopia oh soldering then why make the point of this is better then the original when u can re solder the same if it brakes Ur point is literally pointless 🤣 if u gonna solder might as well solder the other ps5 disk drive if it brakes lol
Great information and comparisons explained in this video...nice work!
Nice video man, it's really informative. I'm planning to buy the Slim and this video was useful.
Thanks! The most in-depth review, I also enjoyed your last year’s video.👏
Having two different panel types (glossy and matte) is the only thing that I don’t like but I guess they’re easy to replace
The modders will take care of it😅
The gloss and matte would look better in black like the OG PS4 or PS2 90001 model
Id just wait for D brand to come out with replacements
a tribute to the first ps4
i kinda like it because it reminds me of my ps2 scph 9000x
This was a really interesting video! I’m curious to see how the removable disc drive is going to work out in the long term for customers in the future. Will be an interesting thing to see play out. Also I’d like to say thank you to Austin and the crew for the Modern Warfare III code! Keep up the great work Austin and the rest of the team! Always enjoy seeing the new videos pop up in my subscription feed :)
Amazed you could actually read that
@@NikitaWolf1776 It definitely took a few tries lol. There’s like a frame or two in the video where it was kind of easy to read, but it still took a few attempts.
Can it work for others
@@elexmcfarlin9302 It’s a one use code unfortunately.
Haha, those "2 frames" are difficult to grab for sure. If you really have it, grats!
With Black Friday sales going on I’d say going for the slim if you don’t already have a PS5 is a good way to go. From what I’ve seen, the OG PS5 and the slim bundles are the same in price $499 unless you’re able to get either for cheaper. Plus, I like having the ability to not only have a separate disk drive but be able to fix or replace it without having to buy a whole new system or maybe even having to send the whole console and be without it for however long.
499 € ? Es mucho . En enero de 2024 estuvo a 454 € la PS5 SLIM. Esa si es una muy buena oferta.. saludos
Been waiting on this one
defintely don't get the Digital only, not only is it more expensive but it will be another excuse for companies to ditch physical for digital only, which means more control over your games and the prices, and it makes it hard to fing bargains, trade games, lend games, and much more. For a few seconds of convenience you will make other things much more difficult!
Yea but the bulbus disc drive looks ugly. I’ll take being a corpo slave for aesthetic purposes
@@Kingbayleiyou know how much money my cousins saved using my disc games? Who cares about how it looks. Physical games are the best.

Hey Austin - you are the best, love your very entertaining review. I did ring a ding the bell for subscribers and for notifications.
Austin always comes in clutch when it comes to new content coming out!
Wow amazing in depth review I was looking for.. Worried about overheating forsure
It won't. Plus get a warranty and don't be poor
Thank you for showing this, I have a day 1 PS5, and while I often buy the slim variant, having listened and watched your teardown I think I will wait until my current unit packs up - and I will just put the money for that event to one side. Very disappointed they have opted to increase the prices too - historically slim models have dropped the price and led to surge in sales.
They haven't increased the prices, it's the same price, 550 euros
Same I was going to replace my original PlayStation five for this one but the price is too high for a slim
i have a day one ps5 too but my lan port just started giving me issues
@@MariaHernandez-gf7ng ah no - thats not good, I have just added an additional SSD card - super scary opening the case, and fitting it - but works fine. I hope you can fix the Lan port without needing to buy a new unit.
The other slims in the past have also had lowered specs usually (from what I remember) but with this one they made them better.
W video I love your videos man keep it up I love being informed in all the specs
Keep it up on your work and this video and channel I love this video and channel Thanks you for your video and channel
wouldn't surprised me if they found they had nearly identical performance backing it down a few watts, but that it allowed them to remove some of the heatsink weight.
i wonder if they can get another node shrink in about 2 years if they can reuse the disk drive and just make it the bottom half, but that would probably need half of the power draw
sony could just make the bd drive external or sell the games on usb sticks
I bet they will do a 5nm node shrink once that becomes cheaper as people move to 3nm and just stick it straight in this chassis, then reduce the heatsink even more since it should only pull like 120w then
I genuinely just wanted a slim black rectangular box but they really tripled down on the wing concept 🤦♂️
Thank you Austin! Your clips always make me took the right desicion! I think I will wait until the Ps5 Pro‼️
You just got a new subscriber, thank you for the details!
Tear down and cleaning is a little easier. Dust out the shell, fan, and heatsink and good to go. Leave the motherboard alone.
I was so looking forward to your tear down. It was everything I hoped for.
Except no heat test wth!?

What an awesome video. The PS5 slim looks good to me since I know it's still powerful as the original. I know some people like it and others in the opposite but to me it's just wonderful. But I can't wait for even more unboxing videos out of the slim.

What most concerning for me is the fact that they are trying to ease out physical games for us to go all digital. I strongly dissagree with this as you never own your games.
Thanks Evan for showing this i have the 1200 and love it!
Yep.
Thank you for the informations
Great video, Austin.
With heat pipes you don't want to bend them too much especially past 90 degrees as it will slow down the heat transfer. Would be interesting to see the temps on the Slim
Some people already did some tests and the results are pretty much the same
Wish id of waited ive only had my 1215a literally only 3 mnths. Disc drive is bad. Piece of junk or a fluke?
@@jeffrothegamerprob a fluke. I've had mine for about a year and the disc drive is still doing pretty well.
Its not about the angle you bend.. its about the radius you bend it in..
@@ClosestNearUtopia That's correct
I got confused when I opened that plastic stand but 30 seconds of looking at it told me where they went 🤣
Austin back at it again🎉🎉🎉
Wow! Thanks for that insightful view of PS5 Slim. I noticed a motherboard battery like the ones on my desktop PC that I build. Do you know how often that needs to be replaced? I know when mine on my custom desktop goes bad then all date-time accuracy goes south. Thanks.
Wish there was an actual test not just a tear down besides that very informative
Just imagine if the power supply was external (the return of the power brick 😁), how small could it really become? 🤔
@@franciscofreeland-gonzalez1991 indeed 😂
It's not a slim until Sony can somehow put the disc drive where the central black part is.
@@maqui1814the ps5 super slim😂

Maybe a GaN power supply would be a better solution?
that's a very good review! Amazing!
Nice teardown 👍👏
Damn, they really slimmed it down pretty good! Its just as big as the PS3 or PS4 it looks like!
I like it, same performance, smaller and has a detachable disk drive which makes repairing it easier, bummer it doesn't include the vertical stand but oh well
No need for vertical stand as it's quite smaller than before with the same base size.
But you forgot it möre expansiv than FAT Ps5
Happy to discover this channel today
As far as the 4 vs 6 nands on the ssd, how could this potentially affect through? I am not very knowledgeable, but i do feel like while downloading to internal ssd, and transferring games from external to internal there is a slowdown.
I liked how it dismantles👍🏽 It should've been made more compact 🤷♂
Wait 3-4 years
With the 4 different plates you could replace them with the Microsoft windows colors...
Nice Austin!
Finally the content we’ve been waiting for!

heres a question, after registering the disc drive to the ps5, is it locked to that ps5. or can you sell the drive and use it on another?
more than likely locked , hence why the registration
You can use it on other ps5
Nice review. Got a sub.
Superb video 👊🏽💪
All I wanna know is if the hdmi 2.1 now has 40gbs support. And if the coil whine is gone. That’s all I want
Coil whine will be unit to unit. If you care that much about coil whine buy from a store that allows returns on opened units, rush home and test. Run it through a game or something hard to listen for coil whine and return it if it's there. Must warranties don't cover coil whine of course even though it's a quality issue.
My 1200 doesn't have coil whine, but my brother's 1000 has really bad coil whine. I think they've already fixed that. I hope it has a proper HDMI 2.1 port now because the colours look awful at 120 Hz on the other models.
@@itIsI988 My 1200 has Coil Whine but only when I'm very close to Playstation. I can't hear it from the couch. Sony doesn't consider as the problem, it's very likely that Coil Whine has stay in Slim. Its sad
@@petrtesar9461 Anything to save a buck. Seems to be the trend with Sony, especially this gen.
HDMI bandwidth still is 32Gbps. Tested on my C1 with the HDMI menu, says 4L8, while the Series X said 4L10.
So as someone who wants to buy a ps5 for the first time should I get the slim or OG. I know the slim has some very slight improvements like bit more storage but I feel like I prefer the old design better. Is it worth getting it over the OG for first time buyers
I’m on the same page. Trynna buy one today
Get the PS5 Pro
I'd get the OG but 1200 model. I've had the OG 1000 it had bad heat issues got the OG 1200 last year with the GOW bundle & it's been great since. Was gonna get the slim till these videos started dropping over the past few days I don't like it. Looks super cheap, there's a gaping hole on both top sides straight down to the fans, doesn't look like it lights up anymore, & the mix match panels look like a Temu Gamestation 50 or some sh¡t 😂 the ps5 was already not the best looking but man that thing makes me appreciate my series x even more
Same idk what to do
O.G
one of the best video pretty detailed bud. What's your recommendation bud after this video which is the best model so far ?
Very good hardware difference explain..👍 Soon upload software performance difference video loading time & efficiency...!😊
The best comparison I have seen. Congrats. The only thing missing is a noise test, considering that the cooling has changed.
I couldnt tell mine was on my okd ps5 after few weeks got noisey but not anything bad
If I were to get a slim I would wanna get the four plates to represent the color of the buttons, it would look kinda goofy but I'd focus more on the monitor than the console so I'll live
Why bother at all? I barely look at the console itself I'd rather chuck it behind the monitor where I don't see it at all super clean space lol.
Got one today, I love it
Thanks Evans, te quiero
Wait so the slim version doesn't have a slot for ssd and after you registered disc was it necessary to have internet connection for it to function after that?
It does have one, and can handle a higher capacity than the base ps5
has one, but its right next to the heatpipes thing, so the ssd will get really hot
you only need internet to pair the disc drive, after that you can go offline and still use it
😂😂😂😂😂 another one who misunderstood the video
@@Barak50calall ps5 consoles are capable of using the same capacity. Right now you can Use an 8TB nvme in it
Can you put it next to Series X/S?

Whoa! I love the details in yer videos but where's the heat test!?
I bought mine today which included Spiderman 2 for 500, Christmas gift for myself. I'm glad I waited and didn't grab a regular PS5, I'd rather the slim since it'll fit nicely on my new desk setup. Great review Austin, ya convinced me.
Can it read PS4 Disc's?
@@whiskeygamer9402yes
Donde la comprastes? Me comprare una de las mismas en estos días pero no sé en q tienda la puedo encontrar? Yo soy del salvador pero me la traerán de USA como regalo de navidad.
@@whiskeygamer9402since he didn’t answer your question I will. Yes it reads PS4 discs. It will also read any PS4 external drives you had on your PS4. I brought my PS5 home and during the set up process it asks if you want to transfer from another console. You simply plug both consoles in to your router and the PS5 will detect it and transfer stuff through your home network. It took around 30 minutes for my PS4 to transfer everything I had installed on the internal storage over to my PS5. And all I had to do was unplug my external drive from my PS4 into the PS5 and it detected and reads from it without any extra steps. I was able to play the Final Fantasy 7 remake zero issues on my Ps5 just like I did on my PS4
@@Ocelot429 Thank you much appreciated 👍🏽 I will definitely buy one.
Sort of curious if the revamped power supply fixes/reduces the loud coil whine thats notorious on the ps4 pro and 5.
Nope, it's still there. My 1st slim had loud ass buzz I uploaded a video on my channel. My 2nd one has a less loud buzz when high demand games draw high wattage like nms 60fps
Hey Austin I still haven't bought ps5 and i watched all of your ps5's videos! but still cant decide which series is the best! i don't like slim but what do u suggest?! i hoped they put pro out but i can't wait any longer so happy to hear your suggestion
I would prefer you to get OG PS5 1200 because the heat sink is slightly better and fan aswell it's also tested that the OG ps5 runs a bit cooler and quiter. The OG even looks better, in my opinion. The slim looks cheap in front of the OG one. I also prefer the led on the OG one. The one thing I like about slim is the detachable disk drive, but it is useless because we need an internet connection to play the physical games, which sucks. So technically, the OG is better in every way, and it looks better and more premium. The heat sink is slightly better even Austin said that, the fan is also better and other people tested it the OG one also runs quieter than slim I would prefer the OG. You can get one at a good discount and the money you saved from the discount get a 1TB or 2TB ssd which is even better. So OG should be the pick. I hope this was helpful and let me know what you will get ^_^
I'm interested in the Pulse Elite, I want to compare it to the Audeze Maxwell that I already own and see how much of a difference there is.
I have a 2015 base ps4 that’s still chugging along and I’ve been waiting for a ps5 that will fit under my tv so I’m due for a pretty massive upgrade on Friday.
Same here bro 😎
If you do want a disk drive, get the old one. It will be about the same price if not cheaper because it will go on sale because it is the old one.
Yeah Ik it would be cheaper but I really can’t stand how massive the old one is and I can’t wait till the pro comes out so I’m just gonna get the disk version of the slim to play cyberpunk and Rdr2 and put dbrand digital edition plates when I’m not using the disk drive so it’s even smaller. TLDR the smaller size is worth the extra price to me
@@longliveleninism5503. Ok.
has anyone tried to put the disk drive already registered to a ps5 to another one? might be a protection measure to not be able to resell
Won't work
It locks to the system as soon as you first boot up.
Cool, man. I Like this types of videos
I like that still graph. And audio are better on pc.
I kinda wish I saved the money and got the digital since I've never actually put a disc in mine. I did replace the plates with rounded ones so I could travel with it and it shrank the size quite a bit. I was worried the stock plate overhangs would get broken.
You'll thank yourself when a game on the store is 60 and u find a used version for 20/40
Ive watched a lot of comparisons but Austin's really takes the cake
I’m sorry ever since I seen you point out the pillow on mystery tech I can’t stop thinking about it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Heatsinks were repositioned to better use the circular airflow coming out of the fan. Whereas the normal models have the tower taking a lot of direct airflow but the central sinks get whatever flow "bounces" around the chassis. On the Slim they are positioned in a circle around the fan, ideally you could have the now-gone 3rd sink at the front or top to make a more complete circle but you won't want hot air coming out the front of the unit.
I'm getting the disc version but for those who get digital wouldn't it be better to buy the PS5 Slim disc for $499 and sell the disc drive for $80 so it's basically like you only pay $410 compared to $450 digital?
Why would someone buy the disk from you for $80 (and not in its original packaging), while they can order one officially from Sony itself with packaging and stuff?
@@silversrayleigh1399 There are smart people out there I’ll the disc version of cod mw3 and beat it within a week and sell it on eBay for $70 I’m not like those morons that buy digital because once Sony take your $70 you never get it back
Bruh 😂😂😂 I can't believe you're actually thinking this
The disc drive locks to the system as soon as you boot it up.
If you sell it it’s gonna be mostly $50 at best lol. Sony was one step ahead, kid
This would be great if that protrusion of the disc drive wasn't so obvious, otherwise I like it. I traveled recently with my PS5 and it sucks compared to traveling with a series x or s. On top of having to pull it out going through TSA. I think it will be easier to place in a backpack instead of only having to use a duffle bag. I like the extra USB C port in the front as well. Not a fan of having to purchase the stand separately but all my consoles are wall mounted so it's not like I use the stand currently anyway.
There is a digital version also fyi

Probably still cheap
Probably the same i mean specially if you use those cheap pegs they throw as a base now to be honest this had to be put out at a cheaper price i was okay with the ps5 price because it looks and feels like a premium console compare the ps4 or ps4 slim or even the pro but this doesnt look that way it looks like a chineese rip off with 500 games hahaha

Hi Austin, I recently bought the New PS5 Slim, SSD, ultra high speed HDMI cable so it's my new baby if you will n plan on takin very good care of my new investment. 👍🏻👍🏻 I've been doin so much research on this n still don't have an answer, so I'm curious of your opinion, which do You think is Best in your honest opinion.. Vertical or Horizontal ?.. 🤔 And keep in mind before you answer, since Sony stopped "including" the metal stand in the PS5/Slim factory boxes.. I wonder why that is, since the Slim's come with the little leg's for Horizontal installment. I really wonder if Sony is covering their "name" by installing the updated consoles Horizontal instead of Vertical from now on with this Liquid Metal thing.... 🤔 Food for thought Cheer's my Friend's n have fun. 👍🏻😎
Here is a question. what if I have multiple disk drives and I connect every disk drive at least once. Do I have to reconnect to the internet every time I switch other the disk drive?
It's still huge asf tho 😂 I'll be waiting for the ps6 or ps7. I'm actually really good with my Xbox series s 🎮🔥
Series S is the sexiest of them all
Honestly the small press increase I think is worth it with the sheer amount of extra storage. That's really the only main upgrade besides size and maybe thermals.
The problem though is that they are stopping production of the original so now there isn't a cheaper option. Also considering that this is pretty much the same technology it still should have dropped in price because it's only a 100 extra gigabytes so why would it increase by 50$? Think about the Xbox series s carbon black getting 500 extra gigabytes for the same price increase. Not to mention charging 30$ for a stand is atrocious
Not really, considering you can buy and replace the current SSD for more storage on both units.
The included controller cable is USB-C to USB-C right?
im not sure if registering the drive will marry it to the ps5 so if it does its going to really hurt the resell value of the drive
