Sam Hyde with Nick Rochefort and Charls Carroll are starting PGL out by talking about Tim Heidecker's latest stand up comedy performance. Which is followed by Chris Lynch bring up a favorite of Charl's Monty Pythons 'Salad Days' Sketch. This then leads to Nick Bringing up a similar sketch from MadTV and Will Sasso called 'Paul Tiberman's Workshop'. Next Nick starts a discussion on Author Stephen King. Charls likes 'The Stand' 'Dead Zone' and a few other works of King's, but Sammy thinks he's a Tube Man. Finally Charls brings up a Rare Kanye West Rolling Stones Crossover Concert.

  • ‘The Dark Tower’ Series is his swan song. I think he wrote them all. What he did do, however, to his own detriment, is sell The Dark Tower short, selling it under the condition of the lead character being played by a black man in the movie adaptation… which, in and if itself is not detrimental. What I personally find to be disingenuous is that he went on ‘national television (yep, I said it)’ and proclaimed the books never definitively illustrated Roland’s race. This is simply not the case, as Roland is said to be white multiple times. He allowed certain aspects of it to be changed (which is fine), but then acted like it wasn’t something impossible from the source material; meaning that it would then NOT BE PANDERING BS. It WAS pandering BS. There’s an entire portion of the story where Roland (basically a caucasian caricature of Clint Eastwood) and Eddie (an addicted drug dealer from New York who works for the mob) walk Odetta Holmes (a schizophrenic African American female with split personalities) through the desert in bondage while she cusses and screams racial slurs at them, accusing them of ‘tugging on each other’s little white candles’. It boggled my mind… as the only people that I’d wager would’ve bothered to see the movie were those that read the book.

    @hymonom@hymonom2 ай бұрын

The most boring and unwieldy prose Ive ever had the misfortune to read. His stories arent even horrifying, they're just gross and weird, like him. King is at best an ideas guy, his execution is lacking. The Shining is a masterpiece because Kubrick so drastically departed from the book in his adaptation. This pissed King off, but Kubrick told a better story more effectively with the same ingredients.
