  • Thomas Newman's "American Beauty" theme music has ALWAYS touched my soul, and makes me ACHE for something I cannot define (And I'm normally not the most "spiritual" of people) but this soundtrack just DOES this to me. So much so that driving to my mother's funeral 9 years ago, I purposely listened to it, just to reinforce its power on me. The single piano with string accompaniment is such a DEEPLY moving motif.

  • Ho pensato tanto alla parola "amore" ed al suo suono. Ciò che salva e ciò che uccide. Ciò che cerchi, ciò che hai. Un suono dolce e tagliente al contempo. L'amore per me è paragonabile ai petali delle rose che pur sfiorendo rimangono dello stesso colore e della stessa bellezza che si trova nell'integrità del fiore. Esso cambia cambia aspetto, ma non muta il suo significato. Da anni penso a quando rimarrò sola, a quando perderò anche mia madre, a quando ci sarà mio figlio che lascerà il nido. Loro saranno petali nel vento. Io avrò il loro amore in altra maniera. L'amore si trasforma anche nel matrimonio/convivenza. Da prima passionale, dopo diventa sostegno, pazienza, comprensione. Viviamo in un "attimo fuggente", viviamo pur sapendo che moriremo. È strano tutto ciò, è mistero il senso di questa trasformazione. È la vita certo. È la causa di un effetto indiscutibile. Io però voglio lottare per apprezzarne ogni sua forma, ogni suo evolversi. Voglio accettare i cambiamenti, i suoi disegni, le sue forme. Questo ho fatto dopo che è morto mio padre. Questo è quello che faccio vedendo ogni giorno crescere mio figlio. Questo è ciò che ho capito dopo dieci anni di matrimonio. È ciò che è ad ogni compleanno di mia madre.     • I took liberty to translate from Italiano w/google. I hope is accurate. These are beautiful thoughts to go with the beautiful music. I thought a lot about the word "love" and its sound. What saves and what kills. What you seek, what you have. A sweet and sharp sound at the same time. Love for me is comparable to the petals of roses which, even as they fade, remain of the same color and beauty found in the integrity of the flower. It changes its appearance, but its meaning does not change. For years I have been thinking about when I will be alone, when I will lose my mother too, when my son will leave the nest. They will be petals in the wind. I will have their love in another way. Love also transforms into marriage/cohabitation. At first passionate, it later becomes support, patience, understanding. We live in a "fleeting moment", we live knowing that we will die. All this is strange, the meaning of this transformation is a mystery. It's life for sure. It is the cause of an indisputable effect. However, I want to fight to appreciate all its forms, all its evolutions. I want to accept the changes, its designs, its forms. I did this after my father died. This is what I do watching my son grow every day. This is what I understood after ten years of marriage. It's what it is at every birthday of my mother. It's what I hold in my hands when I see my ex again with Giovannino. Now custom makes it seem like fatalism.
