  • I watched full match and my god Emma give up too easily. Her happiness was obvious when everything was going on her terms. When things got tough she stopped moving and let her opponent crush her. She should fight for every point even if things look hopeless.

    • I wouldnt talk about injuries, but about the insane amount of pressure that the press has placed on her back home. At this point, the US Open has become her curse. Without knowing it, she created a monster. Well, they created it for her. She has a lot to lose, that is the problem. I dare to think she will feel better after getting the burden of being the defending US Open champion off her shoulders later this year. She wont have to play with that label anymore. Leylah Fernandez plays as the US Open finalist and does not feel the same amount of pressure for some reason. Maybe the press is less relentless in Canada (Bouchard: - Hold my selfie stick). EDITS: grammar

  • Emma needs to add more to her game. She just can't outhit or outsmart every player with just consistency. Continued success is built on a combination of sound footwork, easy power, a great serve, a forehand which can conjure up winners when needed. Without this, it's either hit or miss. Iga is the only player at present who can to some degree claim to be a complete player. I would expect her to win this tournament. Anything else, would be a serious upset.

    • Here's the thing that makes more sense. When you win a big title, you get put on the map. Players will adapt their games to be able to play against those top players. So if you're relatively new, your game hopefully isn't something too easy to figure out. Combine that with new expectations. Part of why she was able to play well was because she didn't have as much expectations. Now she does. It's roughly going to be a similar journey to previous first time Slam winners. Pete Sampras certainly fell afterwards before gathering himself back together.

I watched the entire match and even though she squeezed out the first set, I tipped Sasnovitch to beat her over three cos she had no clue what to do when the balls from Sasnovitch kept coming back. It wasn't so much about how lucky they were or how great their game is, it was more about all the veteran players being rusty after long lock downs, while the teenage girls were fresh and at their usual level. So it's easier for them to get back to where they were and even improve upon it because they have tons of space for improvement. For the top players, a small change in their tournament schedule and training regimen can greatly effect their performance. The higher their level is, mentally, physically, once it drops, it takes a lot of time to get it all back. Look at anyone who took a break from the tour. Thiem is a good example, a potential RG winner losing in the first round to an unknown. Or the time it took Agassi having to play Challenger events before slowly building back his performance level to compete with the bests in the late 90s. • It’s time to accept the fact Emma Raducanu is a “movie star” masquerading as a “tennis player”. By that I mean it was her beauty and personality that made her a worldwide celebrity not becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam in recorded tennis history. Iga Swiatek looks to be an all time great and she has nowhere near the global fame that Raducanu has. Why is that? Simple, while Swiatek is a pleasant enough looking young lady she has nowhere near the physical beauty of Raducanu. Iga is personable but by nature is somewhat shy while Emma is much more comfortable in the public eye. I believe it’s time for Raducanu to drop the pretense that she’s a professional athlete and just to focus her attention on being involved in some manner with the entertainment industry, instead.

    • It's interesting that you should compare Iga to Emma. While nobody is now disputing Iga's potential to be the next Serena given her unbeaten run now stretches to 31 matches,it shows you just what progress can be achieved in less than 1 year. Ok here's an interesting fact for you to chew over which most people seemed to have overlooked. Who defeated Iga at last year's US Open in R4 in straight sets(7-6,6-3)? It was Bencic. And who defeated Bencic in the QF in straight sets (6-3,6-4)? Well, none other than our Emma!😂 So I would give Emma another year, and then judge her perhaps?

    • 1) No one knew her game at the US Open, so it was easy to surprise people before they realised the best way to play her. Her game is no secret now. Coaches would have analysed videos and guided their charges on how to beat her, no more element of surprise. 2) She played freely by her own admission at the US Open and swung freely and just gave it a go with no pressure. Things are different now. Her every shot is being scrutinised and the pressure is on, even if she denies it. 3) The US Open last year played very fast with the courts and balls, and it suited her game to a T, faster than Indian Wells or any of the Florida hard courts. That’s why she also had a deep run at Wimbledon as grass plays fast too.

Seriously she was trying to hurt Sas’s momentum and it was a dirty trick. Sorry Emma sycophants no way to spin that bad tactic. And Emma is a fine player. She is just around 45-50 in the world. Maybe a tad higher and maybe a tad lower. Nothing wrong with that but she is not showing the consistent winning streak of the phenomenal teenagers like Stefi, Serena, Monica, Martina’s etc etc. She has lost 12 matches won 9. • Iga will be as dominant as the sisters. If she stays healthy. Emma is just on hit wonder, soon to be forgotten

  • Did Raducanu start grunting? Was she recommended that by her agent, to make herself stand out more or be like Sharapova or Azarenka?

  • Congrats to the winner! 🏆 Emma is doing fine. She just needs to increase her skills and continue to focus. Shs is young. She has plenty of time. Steady eddie the course. Thats the ticket.
