This draw is really opening up with some big names dropping early. Coll looks like he’s on a scorched earth mission to make amends for Canary Wharf.
well, the CROUyptonite is out the tournament!
@@strafeist3545 who's that?
13:05 looked intentional to me
what a time to be alive watching squash, im halfway through the highlights and its already overwhelming, tysm psa
Amazing result for Kandra; he just loves the British Open. It's a shame for Mohammed but, based on the past year or so, if it had gone to 5 you would've backed Kandra. I have to say though, whilst it's great and admirable that he's a guy who looks to play through rather than fish for strokes, the shot around 05:45 was quite dangerous.
Yes he should have just taken the clear stroke..
Asal makes a subtle, dirty knee movement at the end, sending Dessouky on the floor. So hard to see this in real time, but Dessouky was right.
Agreed I saw that too
I think Asal is a v dirty player but I didn't see this at all.
The referees saw nothing on the slowmo...your imagination gone wild
Asal should be moving slightly back to give his opponent a clear path to the ball. He intentionally doesn’t, and leaves his left knee forward. It’s not good sportsmanship. It’s dangerous. A different referee may well have ruled differently.
someday someone huge & powerful will literally steamroll all over asal...be it with or without intentions.
I do feel like Asal put his knee a bit more forward then is natural. His feet were on the same level when he played the ball, but when he got back to the T, he put his left leg a foot in front of his right, in Dessouky´s path. When I slowed down the replay, looked quite intentional. Not to injure the opponent, but force him to take a slight detour, but Dessouky was too fast and too close.
The problem for spectators I think is there is so much stuff going on in the court under the surface that the viewers can't really pick up on - only the players themselves sense it. It can be an accumulation of small things.
@@iainpaterson5862 I completely agree with both of you. Fans of "drama" are loving it, but I for one don't watch squash to see who plays the best off-the-ball game...
A fair player would've stepped back to make sure he doesn't block the slightest the opponent's path
@@simonnagy1 thats right most other players will take a step back to give the opponent direct line. He's technically *not wrong* to hold his position on the T, but his size alone makes it hard for his opponent to get through.
ALI FARAG I LOVE YOUR GAME AND ATTITUDE....BIG HUG FROM PERUUUUU
Some huge results already! The fact that going into round 3, Mo Elshorbagy, Joel Makin, Omar Mossad, Youssef Ibrahim, Fares Dessouky, Iker Pajares and Victor Crouin (who beat Paul Coll just last week!) have already fallen is quite phenomenal. Farag and Coll will likely be delighted going into the next rounds! 👀
Kandra earned that win against a formidable opponent, who is far from washed up. Steady work ethic, perseverance and a little luck always helps in squash. Raphael has come a long way from his happy feet videos that demonstrate court agility. Congrats, Simone would be proud.
Kandra - you played some great shots mate
Ive always bounced between squash and motorcross. Loved squashed and enjoyed more when ive been super fit.
Great coverage, thanks
Very gutsy from Kandra and Dessouky is a delight to watch!
Well done Kandra, wonderful squash & composure! I also believe Asal will become one of the greatest ambassadors for squash (once he moves passed his teenage years).
Seems like both Kandra and Dessouky are good at playing the ball to a fault (both had strokes they could have taken I thought).
How many opponents does Asal need to trip, before the PSA takes action? Momen, Farag, Dessouky could all have been seriously injured by one unfair player. Will it really take a career ending injury before the PSA does something? Asal is turning this sport into a big joke.
So right, the rules make provision for his dangerous behavior. He purposely stays in his opponents direct line to the ball yet does not get penalized. PSA need to start reviewing multiple cases where Asal could have avoided physical contact but made no effort to avoid it.
Dessouky I think was annoyed from Asal’s overall play in their last 2 encounters more than the ‘intentional knee’
5:47 WTF?!!
D was right Assal pushed his knees out when D was running passed
Scary to see Coll adding such skills to his arsenal. Some beautiful winners here. I remember when he was just a hardworking upstart who'd dive left and right and eventually lose the point because his shoe slipped. Seems he got better shoes.
Asal has another definition of fair play...
Coll is an absolute machine!
Hoping Farag wins his first British open.
Go Kandra, that's a big win well done
Dessouky and Asal meeting in the 2nd round right after meeting in a final is hilarious.
Coll looking solid af. The Egyptians must hate having to play him.
Kandra continues to beat the ElShorbagy brothers. I honestly didnt think he could take Mo but Im stuper stoked for Kandra taking that win. It always sucks when a game goes like that in the end, but it was still a great match.
When are the new tecnifibre squash rackets coming out
Grateful for fast forward during the Asshole game
Asal rhythms with ...
I get what players talk about now gosh... Asal is Soo clever you can see what his doing from the Angle we watching..... it's little move moments he does.... he enters the line of movement of a player when his moving towards the ball.... it's very very clever it's slight movements that look like nothing when you watching but when you playing someone in a court their lil positions in the court can cause hurt.... you have to be a very good player to see what his doing cause it's a spilt second movement leaves his foot out where he knows a player is going to step or an elbow or his hip... he anticipates where the other player is going to move next and he disrupts it and in a momentum his dangerous......
sick leg sweep at 13:13
farag vs coll???🤪
Coll looks very strong.
amazing flick from Kandra 🤙
15:54 pause it, a monstrous foot fault... at the pro level do they not care about the foot faults? ive seen a few not being picked up on.
I agree. I've been picking foot faults in these professional game videos for ages. Even with players that I like. It seems that once you get to high B/A grade and up to professional, the rules don't apply anymore. I'm only D grade but I always call foot faults in tournaments. I've never seen anything in the rules that allows foot faults if you're at a higher grade. Come on referees, start calling them.
10:34 best rally ive seen
SHouldve shown the knee thing from the front view. Hard to tell definitively from the back.
Wanted that Dessouky win! Sad he fell apart after falling down.
Farag is so seamless
From the Asal vs Dessouky match: I'm not so sure about the intentional knee or not. I believe we are more apt to expect it because its Asal and that's "just the way he is" which should never be an excuse for bad behaviour. I can say that from the highlights of this match it didn't seem like he was being overly dirty or up to his typical antics and played hard in the first 4 games. What I can say is that his post match decorum and attitude are deplorable, unprofessional and downright childish in nature. He alone makes the squash association look bad with his actions to his opponents and to the crowd. This is not "bad boy" attitude stuff, its juvenile and the association should have no room for it.
exactly ! couldn‘t agree more ! no matter how good Asal is, he just a unwelcome person ! nothing more !
I can't wait for Coll or Faraq humiliate Asal. 😎
I agree. I’m not a fan. However, I do think he is going to be the world number 1 very shortly
He is definitely the PSA’s pantomime villain right now! I think we do need some ‘baddies’ every now and again. His squash is seriously impressive and very watchable. His antics make it all the sweeter when he’s beaten…
Hundred percent, needs to be put in “time out” room for a few months However I think it’s obvious from the replay (knowing the quickness of and control these guys have over their bodies) absolutely intentionally left his knee out.
thats why Asal is a person non grata ! no matter how good he is , most of the people just dislike him
Unfortunately El Shorbagy's whole match is summed up by the fact that the call he lost his head about was 100% correct. Just a tilt day for him, he looked far from his best, I'm optimistic we'll see him in strong form again soon.
Looks like the Beast is well past his prime. I think it will be a hard hike for him to get anywhere close to his former level.
I think it's a purely mental thing with Shorbagy right now. I think he will bounce back.
@@inghell Hopefully you're right 👍🏻
@@inghell Agreed. He lost it mentally the end of game 5. Usually he’s mentally very strong.
Finito for sure
Mohamed unfortunately looks pretty spent these days compared to his great playing years. Out of all of these guys he's got the most championships by far.
Downward spiral and it's not going to stop anytime soon.
I think no player should shake hands with Asal after the match.
So we have to bear Asal for one more game. Sad indeed
Ridiculous statement. He played sensational squash against Dessouky yesterday - antics aside (I'm usually the first to criticise!) he's got the most potential of just about any squash player on the planet right now.
@@SquashGearReviews I agree 100% !!
@@SquashGearReviews facts bro
Talking nonsense..appreciate next level squash or go play bowls
Shorbaggy not happy 😂
Must be the baggy pants he was wearing
Sad for squash. The first requirement to play should be your grade of civilization. Asal is gonna be guilty of a real tragedy in the court if he is not expelled from the game on time. I hope I`m wrong.
Why is Asal not investigated by the police for his intentional harm on Elias from the last tournament!?
No Let all day on Mo, and likely to agree when he watches the replay. 2 cents opinion: If players keep talking over referees attempts to explain decisions, return the lack of courtesy and do not offer them one. Simply say "play on, 9-5, Kandra from the left". I make one attempt to explain and if players talk over that, then I make no further attempts in future unless I get an agreement that they will withhold their piece until after I've finished explaining a decision. No referee should ever be looking for or expect a conversation. That's too much of a slippery slope. Save it for after the game if players feel that certain mattters need to be pursued.
Asal the ah om tour
Bloody Asal! Why cant any match be clean with that guy?
It is hilarious to watch Asal celebrating his win :)
Asal🙅♂️🤦♂️
I actually thought he was fine today. Match highlights looked clean to me. The intentional knee shot was a clear no let. As for post match antics, Dessouki didn’t shake his hand, which was a really bad gesture. I think its fine for Asal to enjoy some celebration. Overall I think a step in right direction for him. He is a special talent for sure and PSA is a better place with him competing (and behaving).
Asal - still the baby in the group. Don't understand why his behaviour doesn't mature as he gets older. he's beginning to look ridiculous with his post-match behaviour.
Fares seems to be the only one who can stand against Asal’s onslaught. Tough luck that he lost, but a match worthy of the final. Asal just wants to win a little more and that’s the only difference between the two.
I have no idea how you lot think that knee was intentional. Look at 13:00 its just his natural stance and dessouky's nowhere near him
I know, people just hate asal. He’s not perfect but he’s gotten a lot better.
I agree. I don't see anything there. Certainly not premeditated. And, as for clearing a path. He is on the T. totally bossing the rally, I think he is entitled to be there. I really like Dessouky, sorry to see him lose. I'm not an Asal fan. He is a dirty player but on the evidence of these highlights only, he seems to be getting better. He's also a frickin machine, the most awesomely powerful squash player I've ever seen.
Nothing wrong from Asal..but what professionalism from dessouky!!! Refrees are there to judge!
I didn't think it was possible but I dislike Asal more each time (I thought he had changed because the first few games there was nothing in the highlights [I don't begrudge his talent or his emotional outbursts after the fact]).
I already thought also that my dislike had reached a maximum but it seems the ceiling is still very far away 🙁
El Shorbagy is finished
It just goes to show that even when Asal does behave himself, even fellow professionals are unable to look past his reputation; real shame to deny a handshake after what was such a great match.
looking at it frame by frame, Asal does seem to be returning to the center and then changes and leaves his left knee out front on purpose. Dessouky couldn't have returned the ball any case but he does have a point about Asal making a dangerous blocking movement I think. and think back to all the good things Dessouky had to say about Asal after the canary wharf final, he likes Asal usually but that movement has really upset him
@@ROOSON1 I can see that his left knee is slightly forward from his right at the point of impact, but both knees are well within the frame of his body and from a tactical point of view he obviously wants to have a stance that let's him get forward just in case Dessouky gets to the ball. But even if I agree with you and say the knee was _slightly_ out of place, is it unreasonable or dangerous? Is it clear enough that Dessouky can be so certain in his allegations? Is it clear enough that any of us can be certain in our allegations even with a slow mo replay? I don't think the answer to any of these questions is yes.
Asal stuck his knee out into Dessouky as he ran past, it's fucking awful. I wouldn't shake either. Completely different from his usual antics too, never seen a player try to hurt another.
@@M0odez i think, by the fact that it was the only part that Dessouky (a pretty clean and reasonable player whenever I've seen him) collided with, it can't be said that the knee is totally within the frame of Asal's body and i don't think it's to help him move forward. as for if it's unreasonable or dangerous, i think the result speaks for itself. as for clarity, Asal made a movement that caused Dessouky to fall, the only question is "was it on purpose?" and if you want to be sure of that you're gonna have to be a mind reader but, since we're not, this is where Asal's reputation is entirely relevant. He does something like this in every tournament he plays in and instead of just not doing it, he's trying to get better at hiding it. one of these days a player that Asal has tripped is going to land worse than Dessouky did here (or Elias did in canary wharf, or Momen has when he was tripped) and PSA will have something very serious on their hands.
@@eoincoleman4537 too right
Assal devient détestable avec son comportement. Aucun respect pour ses adversaires Une honte
inpaindaily
6:15 how has the ref not given a stroke there😭😭
Simple; because it is an obvious 'no-let' :) ElShorbagy was just grumpy already by then.
i do think elshorbagy was looking for the man there, he's on kandra's back almost before the ball has hit the front wall and, if you step frame by frame, he's pushing off his left leg forwards into kandra and not moving for the ball. it's possible that if he made a proper effort he'd have gotten a let but i don't think his movement was in earnest
@@IbadAFulaylee did you not see the shot quality and movement off the ball from Kandra lol
The ref and commentators explained it perfectly. The line to the ball was to the left of the player. ElShorbagy was fishing for a stroke/let. The reason the game is so much better to watch now vs 15-20 years ago is precisely BECAUSE this was a no let decision.
Such draws ..in earlyvrounds in between top players..what this tournament administration wants..finish top guys...And make things flat for only 1 person..is it a conspiracy to finish Egyptian domain?
Asaltheater boring
I won't watch any sport where the histrionics have taken over. So now squash has joined Soccer and most of the others in the bin. Only the athletics left.
Yeh it’s no where near soccer for theatrics.
Asal… what a dirty dirty move… Desouky was dead right… Asal intentionally pops his knee out. Should be suspended from playing for that. Absolute loser.
Umpire n video refree r jokers then according to you!!
@@amimahmad9699 they couldn’t see it. Nor could the crowd.
Asal knows he's blocking the line and the refs let him get away with it. Still not a sportsman.
Dessouky is right not to shake the hand of that idiot. Asal is such an actor and its a shame he won...
Asal very dirty player.... The referee must be more fair with other players
Asal or ashole
Elshabagy is a big baby and a bad sports, trying to hit his opponent and then giving up. Terrible
Shobargys look disibterested. needs psychatric help to come back or doomed
Asal is a disgrace to the sport. Something needs to be done about his dangerous play and cheating and blocking.
Here we are again with the mens matches being played in poor spirit. You just don't see it in the womens matches at least not very often. Dessoukey who I am a fan of refusing to shake hands with Asal is poor, El Shorbagy screaming at the referee also poor form. We need to see better from these paid professionals. If accountants behaved like that, they wouldn't have jobs!
Mostafa the Clown....he should start wearing a curly red wig to go with his tiny shorts
