  • Amazing result for Kandra; he just loves the British Open. It's a shame for Mohammed but, based on the past year or so, if it had gone to 5 you would've backed Kandra. I have to say though, whilst it's great and admirable that he's a guy who looks to play through rather than fish for strokes, the shot around 05:45 was quite dangerous.

  • I do feel like Asal put his knee a bit more forward then is natural. His feet were on the same level when he played the ball, but when he got back to the T, he put his left leg a foot in front of his right, in Dessouky´s path. When I slowed down the replay, looked quite intentional. Not to injure the opponent, but force him to take a slight detour, but Dessouky was too fast and too close.

    • The problem for spectators I think is there is so much stuff going on in the court under the surface that the viewers can't really pick up on - only the players themselves sense it. It can be an accumulation of small things.

The fact that going into round 3, Mo Elshorbagy, Joel Makin, Omar Mossad, Youssef Ibrahim, Fares Dessouky, Iker Pajares and Victor Crouin (who beat Paul Coll just last week!) have already fallen is quite phenomenal. Farag and Coll will likely be delighted going into the next rounds! 👀

Asal is Soo clever you can see what his doing from the Angle we watching..... it's little move moments he does.... he enters the line of movement of a player when his moving towards the ball.... it's very very clever it's slight movements that look like nothing when you watching but when you playing someone in a court their lil positions in the court can cause hurt.... you have to be a very good player to see what his doing cause it's a spilt second movement leaves his foot out where he knows a player is going to step or an elbow or his hip... he anticipates where the other player is going to move next and he disrupts it and in a momentum his dangerous......

It seems that once you get to high B/A grade and up to professional, the rules don't apply anymore. I'm only D grade but I always call foot faults in tournaments. I've never seen anything in the rules that allows foot faults if you're at a higher grade. Come on referees, start calling them.

  • From the Asal vs Dessouky match: I'm not so sure about the intentional knee or not. I believe we are more apt to expect it because its Asal and that's "just the way he is" which should never be an excuse for bad behaviour. I can say that from the highlights of this match it didn't seem like he was being overly dirty or up to his typical antics and played hard in the first 4 games. What I can say is that his post match decorum and attitude are deplorable, unprofessional and downright childish in nature. He alone makes the squash association look bad with his actions to his opponents and to the crowd. This is not "bad boy" attitude stuff, its juvenile and the association should have no room for it.

  • No Let all day on Mo, and likely to agree when he watches the replay. 2 cents opinion: If players keep talking over referees attempts to explain decisions, return the lack of courtesy and do not offer them one. Simply say "play on, 9-5, Kandra from the left". I make one attempt to explain and if players talk over that, then I make no further attempts in future unless I get an agreement that they will withhold their piece until after I've finished explaining a decision. No referee should ever be looking for or expect a conversation. That's too much of a slippery slope. Save it for after the game if players feel that certain mattters need to be pursued.

    • looking at it frame by frame, Asal does seem to be returning to the center and then changes and leaves his left knee out front on purpose. Dessouky couldn't have returned the ball any case but he does have a point about Asal making a dangerous blocking movement I think. and think back to all the good things Dessouky had to say about Asal after the canary wharf final, he likes Asal usually but that movement has really upset him

      @ROOSON1@ROOSON12 жыл бұрын
    • @@ROOSON1 I can see that his left knee is slightly forward from his right at the point of impact, but both knees are well within the frame of his body and from a tactical point of view he obviously wants to have a stance that let's him get forward just in case Dessouky gets to the ball. But even if I agree with you and say the knee was _slightly_ out of place, is it unreasonable or dangerous? Is it clear enough that Dessouky can be so certain in his allegations? Is it clear enough that any of us can be certain in our allegations even with a slow mo replay? I don't think the answer to any of these questions is yes.

    • @@M0odez i think, by the fact that it was the only part that Dessouky (a pretty clean and reasonable player whenever I've seen him) collided with, it can't be said that the knee is totally within the frame of Asal's body and i don't think it's to help him move forward. as for if it's unreasonable or dangerous, i think the result speaks for itself. as for clarity, Asal made a movement that caused Dessouky to fall, the only question is "was it on purpose?" and if you want to be sure of that you're gonna have to be a mind reader but, since we're not, this is where Asal's reputation is entirely relevant. He does something like this in every tournament he plays in and instead of just not doing it, he's trying to get better at hiding it. one of these days a player that Asal has tripped is going to land worse than Dessouky did here (or Elias did in canary wharf, or Momen has when he was tripped) and PSA will have something very serious on their hands.
