The problem is that they are harder to find as the sales were already dropping in that time. Anyway even if you get a one from 2000-2002 you still won't regret it. They are very reliable, cheap to maintain, cheap insurance and very fun to drive. And I think that they look very good for 15-20 years old car.

    • @@autumncarlson822 Hi, if you do regular maintenance and not race your car often, it should last as long as mine. A minor problem I encountered at around 270K was the TPS (throttle position sensor) which caused the idle to be erratic and, at times, stalled the engine (but I could restart by popping the clutch while in gear). It was an annoyance but a cheap fix of $60 for a new sensor. I'm sharing this experience with you just in case you run into the same issue as I did. My car has 410K currently, and some works I have done since it turned 400K included a new radiator, coolant flush, and a heater bypass. The heater core leaked , unbeknownst to me, and I was wondering why my car overheated. A quick fix is to bypass the heater; otherwise, it's a real pain to replace the heater core as many Celica owners can attest to this. I also cleaned the air filter and air mass sensor and recently replaced the cat (too old and dirty) to pass smog. All is good now and still running on the original engine and tranny. I'm aiming for 500K before a motor swap. We'll see.

    • @@egoalter1276 I agree and heard similar issues from other Celica owners. I may have lucked out or perhaps my driving habit has helped to prolong the life of my engine. It now has 417K and runs fine. It does leak oil, though, and from what I was told it's not an easy fix so I monitor the oil level and see how long this engine will last before I do a swap and at which time I will also replace the clutch and possibly transmission as everything is still original with the car. Still, it's been a good car and I have no regret buying it back in 2002.

  • My first car was a 91 Celica that got me to 250000 miles, it a year older than me and was passed down from my grandma. When the time came that my sister needed a car she took that one and I got a used tiburon that only gave me 10000 miles. I was so mad about it, I went back and got a 2001 Celcia again and she's at 240000 right now.

    • @@kurosakitagami2788 even if there's electronics it wouldn't be so bad. In case of the gt86 they wanted a high revving engine but they weren't sure if it would be successful so to reduce cost of development, they went to subaru, and I love subarus but they're not exactly famous for that, so the gt86 came out with a shitty engine. What if they just used the old supra engine instead of developing a new one and going to BMW to reduce the cost of that?
