My opinion on school dress codes: Schools should never allow students to wear skimpy and tight clothing! If a student or teacher does not want unwanted attention, they need to wear more modest clothing! I know that all bodies are different, but when I was in school, my school had a very strict dress code, and nobody ever wore skimpy and tight clothing!
As a boy who is attracted to girls I can confidently say that seeing a girl’s shoulders has never distracted me from class
At my school, girls can't wear tank tops, but boys can. Not just spaghetti straps, but also regular ones. This is both sexist to the girls and the boys. So girls have shoulders. Big deal. So do boys. Why do we have to hide it and they don't? We can't control it. And as for the boys, it assumes that all boys are just looking for any opportunity to catch a peek at a girl's skin. I've seen at least ten girls wear tank tops around boys, and the boys didn't even notice. It's not fair to both genders.

As a straight teen who agrees with the dress code shoulders don't really distract me but I believe the rule was created to stop girls from crossing a boundary. Same with the collar bone rule. I as a middle school student was wearing a regular t-shirt and leggings and many other girls were wearing just what I was wearing and I had gotten school dress code on my FIRST week there. I had asked what was the problem and they had simply told me NOTHING about what had been the problem and they would write it up. This happened about near the end of school were literally nobody was paying attention to me or would see me as a 'distraction' when they were busy getting to class within the 5 minutes in crowded halls. Girls will probably not do that because schools and society already make us feel insecure and unsure of ourselves because whatever we wear is 'slutty' and a 'distraction'. They say It's too short. They say it is not appropriate for the weather as well even though they would rather have us wear sweaters in heat for wearing a t-shirt that is not too short or long either. They just want girls to follow men's rules and believe their sayings of when 'we want it' and 'we are asking for it'. On the news in 2017 a SECOND GRADE girl who is about 10-11 wore a dress with a shirt that was only 2 finger strap. A YOUNG girl who has no intention of it? A second grade minor is a distraction? That principal is literally breaking the rules by picking on students and trying to ruin a child's property. She's also being sexist, and humiliating her in front of everyone. Also, I'm pretty sure that a principal can't just suspend someone on the spot for violating the dress code. They at least have to run it by someone first, I'm sure. (I could be wrong on that point though) And the principal can't just 'decide what's right' They have rules to follow too.

See, I think a proper dress code for both guys and girls, make sure their shorts aren’t showing their underwear or butt, make sure whatever shirt/tank top they wear isn’t too revealing, & ripped jeans are no problem, as long there’s no holes in the butt or front. Basically as long the clothes aren’t revealing a lot of areas that we shouldn’t see, these clothes are fine for them wear! I don’t see anything wrong with those clothes they have on!
