This won’t always work on every hamster because every hamster is different! but it will work for most hamsters if they are very tame, you just have to practice a lot with them and if they really don’t like it and start to become stressed out then stop it.

They totally missed step 1..... Unless you have your hamster's trust, this is never gonna happen... Some hamsters are less tame than others... This is why getting hand raised (not just bred and dumped in cages) hamsters is important... They're raised with care and human contact from birth to sale, making them MUCH more accustomed to human contact. When I worked for pet stores we would always get hamster returns a day or two later because the hamsters were from mass breeders and not all of them were ready to be pets. When I bred hamsters they were handled daily, and hamsters that wouldn't tame down, I wouldn't sell and they would be removed from the possibility of breeding. Only when they tamed down would I allow them to be sold or given to a family..
We have a massive cage for him he and I very deep borrow because hamsters like to dig in borrows and live in them
I got mine from a bad pet shop he was ill (uti) When I got him but he's better now he hept on bitten me and even blood came out but now 4 months in and he's healthy and has stopped bittening me and willingly comes on my hand (but still bites eveyone eles ) he's a roborovski dwarf
Ive trained all my hamsters to do this successfully! But yes they must trust you. I've had 3 male syrian hamsters over the years and taught them all to lay on their back and enjoy snacks in my hands!

Probably worth pointing out that (surprise, surprise) different hamsters have different temperaments. Don’t despair that you’re just ‘doing it wrong’ if your hamster won’t go on their back. Some of them just hate it, no matter what you do. But you can still have fun with them in other ways!

My hamster has always been very sociable, but he had a period of two weeks in which whenever I tried to pick him, I would end up with bleeding wounds on my fingers. I realized it was due to the fact that he didn't have new toys for ribbing and shaping their teeth, and after giving them to him in just changed so radically. This is one super chill hamster. Luck of the draw I guess! My old girl hates being picked up and only tolerates light pets. I’ve had a three tame hamsters who loved being held and then two who panicked if you tried lifting them at all. I’ve also had one crazy hamster that destroyed everything in her cage and was always trying to attack if you opened her cage. We ended up calling her Bellatrix.
