  • The blown lead, the 2 goals in 9 seconds, the shot differential, the temper tantrum at the end. This game was such a meme for the Islanders.

    • Shot attempts is just as silly a stat as shots on goal. Shot attempt could mean throwing the puck in the general direction of the net but I've seen shots go off of the goaltender and not be counted as SOG.

  • If Guentzel taunted Nelson, it's because Nelson slashed him twice on the leg, once before the goal and once after. But I don't think Guentzel taunted anybody, it's not his style

    • Not only that, the Isles didn’t get a shot on goal until 6:30 remaining in the 1st period. That’s another 13:30 where they didn’t have a shot. And with the 12:00 at the end of the game where there were no isles shots, that’s 25 and a half minutes where the islanders didn’t have any shots. There was not a lot of time in this game when the isles were doing anything.

Dude missed 3 seconds of video and didn't see the slash, big whoop. The number of people whining here about Nelson and Shannon missing the slash is insane. So many more important points to focus on. The fact is that it was a dominant game for the Canes and a great comeback with a great storyline. Who cares if THG missed an absolutely normal whack at JG, those are literally happening all game, but even if it was some giant rare bad thing, our boy is human, give him a break. It's been said 50 times in the comments, let's represent the Canes better and carry the flag with some respect.

    • @drunkenaletho That's hilarious man! Made my day! It just bothers me. Shannon seems like a nice guy and Watching fellow canes fans rail him for missing 3 seconds of play while watching 3 games is just crazy. And the slashes weren't even bad. The Canes do it too, and Jake knew good and well what would happen when he buried that shot. It doesn't make it right but he's a big boy and he was sending a message, and they came after him for it. But to hammer THG, who generally pumps the Canes for missing a tiny piece of a game, just not cool.

      @griffisjm@griffisjm11 күн бұрын
  • Nah Guentzel wasn't taunting him. Nelson had just hacked at his hands at least twice before the ENG and then again once or twice after. He was telling Nelson off, not taunting him.

    @brandonmiracle9810@brandonmiracle981012 күн бұрын
  • I usually trust THG's judgement 100% when it comes to most anything hockey, but I definitely have to disagree with you when you say that Guentzel taunted Nelson after the empty netter. Nelson blatantly slashed Guentzel in the leg twice on his way to the net, and then again on the hand after the goal was scored. Nelson then followed Guentzel straight over to the boards to throw the cross check. Even the Isles fans I've seen have agreed that Nelson was 100% the instigator of that little scuffle

    @SnarlyCharly@SnarlyCharly12 күн бұрын
    • I (Isles fan) have the same opinion about this as I did about the other empty net situations this season. It's hockey. No blame on either side. Don't blame Nelson or Palmieri for going after Guentzal, don't blame Guentzal for slapshotting the empty net or for taunting them. So much of this game is mental, these guys are trying to get into eachother's heads. However, I do just want to crawl into a hole and pretend that this series never happened.

      @Implicit_Truth@Implicit_Truth12 күн бұрын
    • Yeah but those first slashes were normal, they happen all game long. I can point you to video of the Canes doing the same thing. And Jake is a big boy hockey player, he knew what would happen when he buried that shot. Remember a few months back when Morgan Riley dummied the sens guy(can't remember who it was) for the same thing? He knew they would come after him, and he was chirpping them all the way, but that slash at the hands is uncalled for. Either way, you can't be mad at THG for that? That was during Dallas Vegas who were having a goal fest, and Kings Edmonton who were also having lots of action, he saw the goal and that was it. But people on here are going crazy cause Nelson whacked at his legs a few times like everyone does and THG didn't talk about, just uncalled for.

  • Nelson slashes Guenztel all the way to the empty net and Guenztel smacks it home. Nelson was frustrated losing a game they should have won. He was also extra salty Guenztel didn't just let the empty netter goal slide he actually shot it with force. That "unwritten rule" lol.

  • For the Guentzel “taunt”: while Guentzel was skating at the net with the puck, Nelson took 2 hacks at him, and then after the shot went in, he swung again at him. So 3 slashes in response to the empty net, Guentzel turned around and either taunted or said something about the slashes. And then Palmeri came in like a crazy man. So the taunt was definitely warranted after 3 hard slashes

  • The Islanders are like a Jose Mourinho-coached soccer team. Grab the early lead, absorb pressure, hit on counters and defend the heck out of the lead to the end. In hockey, it doesn't work. The Canes are a team on a mission, and they have a fire that hasn't been seen in past years. Game three will be chippy and nasty.

  • Canes - +500 to win cup (favorite). Isles - +28,000 to win cup. I'm an Isles fan, but I knew the lead wouldn't hold once the Canes got going. I am shocked they held the line for so long. The Canes were absolutely mauling them. It was a minor miracle the Isles held the lead so long. Then exhaustion set in and the Isles got frustrated. Nelson is a total wimp when facing anyone even close to his size, but brave against smaller players. He and Engvall are big guys but give up the puck rather than take a hit. Go play in Europe. After Yoda gutted our prospect pool, this will be a very painful rebuild to rival what the Devils went thru in the post Yoda era.
