It was my mistake not mentioning ILCA in the video, but I believe WHO's making the game isn't relevant to the topic of the video, since I'm talking about the art style and graphics, not who's responsible. Also, defacto head of Game Freak Junichi Masuda is still directing the game and probably has the most say in how the game looks, so criticism on him still counts. 0:00 Intro 1:54 Part 1. Ilca is making the games not game freak
you keep saying gamefreak bro is it that difficult to not bash the scapegoat
Can you at least explain why ORAS - whose map still mostly follows classic Pokemon map design - isn't viable for Sinnoh's map seeing things like special lanes using the bike and secret bases were added fine?
@zjzr08 i actually thought that was distracting in ORAS
the thumbnail is literally the dog in the house on fire saying "this is fine"
There is only one problem with this argument, gamefreak isn't doing the remakes, the remakes are being developed by ILCA

Junichi Matsuda is also codirecting the games from Game Freak. Them splitting the development is a good decision

Although I would have preferred a Let's Go chibi style I'm honestly glad these games aren't in the SWSH engine or I would've hated them. My main problem is that the characters look the same instead if having new designs. I feel like people point to fan trailers for Diamond and Pearl remakes and wanted them to look like that expecting a FF7 level remake but like you said under Pokemon's current direction that's never gonna happen.
It is the same engine as swsh. The art style is just different
If they made it let’s go style people would still complain that it wasn’t more diamond and pearl style.

@@sarahgallucci8550 those are different groups of people complaining (or trolls)
Chibi art style was never really the problem for me. It was the overall quality of the graphics. The textures, rendering and lighting all felt lackluster. Especially compared to beautifully crafted graphics of Link's awakening. And the character's details are also dissapointing. In original DP, Dawn's back sprite had more detail which showed her hat, hair, a little bit of her skirt, her bag and her feet. Meanwhile, the Remake Dawn's 3d-model shows her hair and very short leg only, according to the trailer's top-down view. After some close-ups we get to see more details, but I don't think players could be able to get that kind of close-ups frequently. But you said that they are actually improving the graphics, so yeah maybe I would consider buying it.
They are improving the graphics have u seen the oled trailer

im inclined to agree! i would have definitely preferred a polished swsh aesthetic, or an HD2D approach, but those were basically pipedreams anyways. it was either gen 4 in swsh engine with muddy, ugly textures or a more abstract approach - which is honestly better for the reasons you gave i love the shit out of windwaker but nah TP is the GOAT 😏
I’m playing Skyward Sword for the first time but I’ve 100% all the main Zelda games (except for the first, minish cap, and 4 swords) and I’m inclined to agree so far. That Skull boss with the Spinner was my favorite boss, along with the Lizard and claw shots boss. I loved the look, the enemies, the items, even the water level. The switching planes, and wolflink aspect was my favorite core gimmick (except for maybe the masks) in Zelda.
I dunno, Link and the faces of evil was fire, 10 out of 10
I believe theres two type of standard in gaming, first is normal standard and second is gamefreak standard.
Saying something like that makes me wonder what would Sw&Sh would look like if the graphics and animation was the same as gen 1-5 with the characters being chibi and certain routes and areas were in top view angle.
Wrong- ilca proved they could make a full scale game. The in battle models and environments are beautiful. They have the assets of full scale human models. However, they chose the unappealing chibi. I’m truly disappointed as I long for a full proportion sinnoh remake
If they wanted to stick with abstract then they should have done a 2.5D with pixel art or something else that is stylized and won't age horribly. These chibis are just uncanny and defeat the purpose of a remake as they are literal stand ins for the original pixel art. They are unable to express emotions at all, contrast a lot with the environment, etc. This could have been easily done on a 3DS...
They should try using the same graphic like octopath traveller 8bit chara even tho we cant see they expression but thru voice acting we can fell they burning emotion But pokemon never include voice acting cause it cost effort and money
Problem is it's viability towards the younger audience...it makes me wonder if someone has busted the myth that 9+ players don't want pixel graphics anymore because Minecraft is far from being aesthetic but has a great young player base.
Agree
Well, I don't have a problem with the chibi style, per se, but I what I don't really like is the way they pulled it off. Lucas and Dawn waddle around as if they have hip problems. They could still use chibis like in XY and ORAS and have them walk through a grid-based map. At the same time, I don't understand why they went for extra models when they also made full-scale models for the in-battle sequences. They could just use those, make their heads a little bigger in the overworld, and I'd be happy.
They took a more nostalgic approach
@@cosmictrainer2919 Which is legitimate of course, but like Gireum argued, they work on a really tight schedule. So for the sake of clever time investment, it seems wasteful to create two different assets for each single character.
Lucas wobbled like the fat guy you see at lunch time at your local KFC
(This one came out a bit vitriolic towards the end, I'm sorry, I'm tired, but I think there's a grain of truth in it all. I'm leaving it in because I guess someone might get a laugh from it, or see a side of things they hadn't seen before. I promise, it's not trying to be cynical or pretentious.) Right, so you don't mind the art _style,_ it's the art _work_ that you don't like. I'm in the same boat; I don't mind a chibi artstyle, it's just... the way it's being delivered in the footage we have from the trailer makes it look ugly. It's the reason I'm not keen on the art from the Final Fantasy 3D remakes from years ago - the specific assets, not the artstyle, are to blame there. Considering that it's ILCA developing the game, though, it may be that the final overworld models actually end up looking good. Of course, I could question why everyone nowadays cares more about how a Pokémon game looks than anything else about it, but that would be ignoring the obvious point that, being Pokémon, the series is reluctant to refine the gameplay unless it's absurd not to (special split and adding Dark/Steel in Gen 2, doing the physical-special split a generation too late, adding _one new core mechanic_ in Gen 6, adding a similar-feeling mechanic in Gen 7, merging both mechanics into one that easily could have been better in Gen 8, etc.). I'd argue that lots of fans have given up on superior new mechanics, instead gravitating towards aesthetics. That's fine, it's just that in this particular fanbase, all this leads to is massive arguments *caused by both sides of any given debate* over the sometimes subjective, sometimes objective, views on graphics of an undeniably corporate product that will be collecting dust on most of its former users' shelves within a decade, while they complain about a problem with retrogaming that they couldn't have cared less about three minutes before those games starting selling for half of their RRP from the times of their sale. (Try being a Mega Man fan in Europe, or a fan of anything that's less a household name than Crash. This has been a problem for a while, it's got nothing to do with Pokémon - look up Symphony of the Night, and realise it's been like that for *decades.)* Or maybe it's possible that Twitter, a site which encourages the mass consumption of mostly meaningless, intangible content, and which gleefully ragdoll-chokes its users' happiness, attention spans, and other mental attributes, semi-permanently does something to people's critical thinking skills, especially when combined with emotions of almost any kind. Who knows? :^)
the larger models with bigger heads would look absolutely horrible and you need to redesign all maps to fit that in. imho bdsp looks far better than gen6,7&8. Even the sprite animations in bw2 were horrible. bdsp is the first good looking game of the main series in a long time. but as we all can see, in this big fan base are a lot of different opinions.
Fr I can’t be the only one that likes the art style, I love the top down and playful art that the og Pokémon’s had and this takes the cake for me, I can’t complain too much.
I respect your opinion and you made good arguments for chibi artsyles, but I just don't agree with you here. I've explained why in other places so I'll keep it brief. 1. Uncanny Valley. You mentioned this for the newer games, but these ones already have some Uncanny Valley to them. That's because they put 2D elements from the originals into a 3D game without considering how they would clash. Stuff like the tile map design without the movement it was designed for(which I never liked btw) and the slideshow battle segways just don't look right, and they break immersion because you notice how they don't look right. 2. The artstyle. I don't like it. Not beacuse it's chibi or childish, but because it's bland and inconsistent. The characters in gen 7 and 8 had an artstyle that allowed them to be more expressive. Gen 5 had too, but in wasn't as clear because that could only be shown off in short bursts with a limited number of sprites. Since gen 7 and 8 are 3D games with character models, they were able to take advantage of the expressive artstyle throughout the entire game. These games could've done that too, but they don't. Everyone has a generic smile that doesn't convey any emotion, and the artstyle doesn't allow for much else, with the giant eyes leaving no room for the eyebrows and mouth, two of the most expressive facial features. The inconsistent part comes in the overworld, because some stuff is realistic while other stuff is stylized to look simple. 3. Graphics don't matter over gameplay. For any other game I would agree with you, but for this one it matters because how the graphics were handled indicates how the rest of the game likely was. If the devs put in a bunch of 2D stuff that clashes with 3D without taking advantage of 3D the way other pokemon games have for the sake of faithful recreation, who's to say they won't have that attitude with the rest of the game? What's stopping them from faithfully recreating all of the bad stuff from the originals while adding nothing new in return? Absolutely nothing. That's why I hate everything about how this game looks. To me, it signals a game that will thoughtlessly copy the original rather than try to improve it, even though the originals were in desperate need of improvement.
you have spoken
While I do agree the Gen 7 and SwSh models have the potential to be expressive, the animations still adhere mostly to the 2D rule, very limited movement, and awkward directions - Pokemon Masters on mobile I'd argue made great effort to add animations to the models of not only characters from the 3D games but also the 2D games although they could add more expressions I feel.
@@zjzr08 Your're right about the animations, but this game appears to have it even worse since the animations are still awkward, but now they're also souless.
Y'all just hear new words and run with them. Nothing about Pokemon is uncanny valley. Nothing in Pokemon screams almost human but not it's obviously chibi. This dude talks about realistic graphics and then compares it to the breath of the wild. Hes just saying stuff. It's dumb
Very solid reasons! While the 3D chibi style still looks weird to me, I totally agree that content is more important than style. This game so far looks more like a remaster than a remake.
There's less content 💀
Ultra Sun and Moon took Sun and Moon's decent plot and made it WORSE. Oh Lusamine isn't evil, she's just misunderstood!
I like it much more when a Pokemon game is played from above, in a 2D way. Though in ORAS, they combined it perfectly so it looks like a 3D game, and you are still playing from above. In Sword/Shield I thought the 3D was really bad, I just dont want to look with camera angles, like how you can do in Mario 64. For some games it is best when you can focus on one part of the terrain. But for Pokemon, I think 'camera from above' or 2D works better
I would have preferred an ORAS style too instead of them reverting back in time because I LOATHE the BDSP overworld graphics. I liked the SwSh graphics actually, and if they pushed it further and reinvented Gen 4 as well as improving their graphics, they could have made a great quality game. But from the split mess of this and Arceus really disappointed me as each new trailer comes out for it. My opinion on BDSP and Arceus at their announcement has now flipped as I keep seeing more trailers. Ironic.
I think the issue isn't whether the chibi graphics are fine or not but rather that it could be alot better... as with almost everything in the modern pokemon games these days ._.
The only graphics I think would be better is a pixel art game like bw but more evolved. So I guess like octopath traveller. But the chibi is the 2nd best and much better than some shit swsh graphic style that if it happened would have probably been more hated by sinnoh stans because it would have looked terrible.
@@Barmeecarba 3D would probably be better IF it was well executed and the region was a actually reimagined in 3D style but as Gireum pointed out that simply isn't possible with how TPC does things at the moment. I think the chibi graphics are for the best overall, after all the Sinnoh games were designed around that. But as I said in my OC alot about this could still be better. And things like them continuing to reuse the XY 3D-models is annoying to say the least ._.
A 2.5 D pixel art would have been far better than what we've gotten
I think the graphics has improved
So long as the immersion can reach the level of the old games it doesn't matter what kind of graphics design they go with. Though sadly the more realistic it is the harder it's to pull of so the likes of GameFreak should steer away from 3D and do something they are actually good at like the 2D sprites.
Hey man, great video essay. It's very well written, and I completely agree with all your points. I also love the witty references! I do have some constructive criticism though. It's actually about your audio quality. Your mic sounded a bit...sizzly/trebley in this video. I don't know if you used a different mic than usual, but when you played audio from a previous video it sounded a lot better. I do audio and music for video games, so I tend to pay more attention to this stuff than most people. I was listening to your video in my car, and I used my car's EQ settings to turn the treble down, which made your mic sound much better. This also revealed that you could use a pop filter too, as your P's and B's tended to sound like sudden spikes in bass. If you're unfamiliar with EQ, I definitely recommend looking into it. It can make even the cheapest mics sound very professional. As for a pop filter, you can just put a sock or a t-shirt over your mic. It will make your P's and B's sound less aggressive, as well as help reduce noise. Anyway, keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next video!

I would absolutely love that. Gen 5 was my first and favorite gen. Snivy, my first and fav pokemon. :)
Fr, the BDSP format fits Gen 5 better and chibi N and Ghetsis would be the best blessing the world While the ORAS/HGSS/LGPE style should've been done for DP
While I agree the chibi aesthetic isn't a problem, I do think it should be a lot more polished than it is, although I feel the overworld looks pretty good. HOWEVER, I will object to say about ORAS proportions being unworkable. Remember that Gen 6 games still used the 4 direction (or was it 8) axis, meaning it still follows the rule of the tiles. I think it did translate Hoenn pretty well while still keeping characters not feel too off. Although I could argue while you can freely move in Let's Go it still is a pretty rectangularish map design, despite many of its dunegon changes. It's still top-down meaning narrow path ways can still be viable in this format, just zoomed-in. I think a solution on adding obstacles to unlock and yet not use rock "traffic cones" for the lack of word is adding puzzles that you can unlock using HMs (that should be more like Let's Go) or maybe something like Ruins of the Alph with the puzzles.
Technically 4 since the additional 4 are just combinations of the existing 4. It's still your basic grid system. and not true 3D.
@@espurrseyes42 I still say it's 8 directional (like Super Mario 3D World) but the fact still stands that it's grid based regardless...even then Let's Go has shown not having limited movement doesn't hamper grid map design IMO.

@Hen well the Switch Oled trailer shows BDSP looking really good in battle.
@Hen if your talking about the chibi overworld characters then I agree based on what we seen so far of the chibi character models but we don’t truly know how the chibi overworld characters and overworld itself looks because if they were whilling to make BDSP look great in battle then god knows what kind of visual improvements they made to the chibi overworld and the chibi characters, we will need a second more recent trailer by the TPC in order to truly judge the chibi character models and the visuals of the chibi overworld.
@Hen if your referring to the character model of lucas in battle from what we were shown in the switch OLED trailer then I have to completely disagree with you on that one because they improved the lucas model in battle. If your referring to Lucas and Dawn’s model in the chibi Overworld then I agree to an extent but we can’t truly judge the chibi overworld and chibi character models yet because game footage not final and because we need a second recent trailer to see what kind of improvements they made to the chibi character models and chibi overworld itself. If the chibi models and chibi overworld don’t recieve a drastic improvement like what we were able to see in battle in the switch oled trailer then I would agree with you that the game wasn’t visually as polished as it could be. However BDSP does look extremely polished in battle and even Lucas’s model in battle looks polished, so I can only imagine how potentially good the chibi overworld and chibi character models will look. But yes I think lucas’s model looks just fine in battle and polished. Outside of battle it could be a different story or they probably improved upon it, no one truly knows.
@Hen I disagree, the arms look a lot better in the switch oled trailer then the original trailer, lucas’s arms were skinny as hell but it got fixed in the switch oled trailer since now there is more fat to his arms instead of the extremely skinny anorexic arms he got in the original trailer.
@Hen i did, the arms in the switch oled trailer looks like it has fat aka thicker where as I looked in the original trailer and the arms where skinny as heck. Your soo dumb. You can’t tell the obvious difference between the arms in the switch oled trailer and the one in the original trailer. Lucas’s arms in the original trailer was anorexic as frick. In the switch oled trailer his arms looks a lot thicker and it has some level of fat.
I feel the exact same I was a bit skeptical at first but after a while I realized why they made it the way they did
You're right on the money there. If the following generation games like gen6,gen7 and gen8 were developed to look like BDSP which is blend of both 2D and 3D graphics and gameplay, then no one would be complaining as much. Just make it simple like it used to be back from gen 1-5 and don't add in gimmicks like mega evolutions,z-moves and dynamaxing(except regional variants that one makes sense). Hang on I just realized this video came out before the Pokémon present presentation. I'm curious now how you feel about the presentation overall Mr Gireum, was it something you were expected or as not much.

Good video as usual 🎉 I'm really excited for these games. I like the graphics and I hope this means no cut content and adding platinum content.
I love the chibi style BDSP is going for. More than just the technical reasons, I honestly like the "weirdly proportioned" full chibi more than gen 6 and 7's half-chibi. However, if the game's going for a cartoon style, I think it's still missing an outline around the characters and pokemon, and the shaders should aim for a cel-shaded look rather than a "plastic toys / miniature world" one (in other words, more Wind Waker and less Link's Awakening remake). I'm waiting for more news for proper judgement, but so far I think the game's good. 9:53 If a pirate doesn't know this reference, they're probably a hack.
Good video but I’m gonna respectfully disagree. My main issue is less about the chibi but more…how fucking ugly these chibis are. I’m sorry but after seeing games like Links Awakening, Megaman Powered Up the chibi in BDSP is even more insulting than SwSh’s models compared to most 3D games. The main issues I see are lack of expression…in a cartoony art style…like fuck man. I feel for chibi the peak was gen 5 mainly since they attempted to EVOLVE the chibi allowing them to move and express themselves in interesting ways. On top of this being a 3D chibi game you’d think they’d evolve the chibi even further with expressions ALONG with movement…the issue is clearly seen in the trailer it’s dog shit chibi. None of the chibis in BDSP look like they can even show any emotion with barely any expression..we still have the blank face protagonist like SwSH, but now it’s worse since you’d expect the cartoony game to be cartoony. I do see what you mean when it comes to abstraction, but I feel the excuse of “abstraction” isn’t an excuse to try to actually advance the series…also, while an extreme nitpick, looking at Rowans model we can actually see it’s LESS expressive than his sprite back in gen 4..back in the day Rowan had his hands behind his back to give the idea hes a cutthroat professor..sure it’s a weird thing but it makes him memorable..now in BDSP he loses that for no reason. The video is a good discussion starter, but this video feels like it’s defending the games for a choice while not criticizing the actual choice..I get you don’t care about graphics but I feel this video just felt like weird…especially since ILCA is making this game not Gamefreak

Love that intro
I think the remakes of older titles getting chibi/retro-ish art styles, and newer orginal games keep pushing past swsh would be a excellent way to distinguish between the two types (in a perfect world, I'd like to have a pokemon "grey" game that cover black and white 1 and 2 in this chibi style, maybe touched up a bit more. Even better if they be like dragon quest 11 and let you switch between 2 styles, but I can't see game freak doing that realistically 😅)
I don't like the bdsp style but for a completely different reason... the lighting and colors are way off. The shadows are way too harsh and desaturated, meanwhile bright scenes are way overexposed, and it results in nothing looking as vibrant as it should. Link's Awakening had the same issue imo. Nintendo loves their bloom 🙄

I don’t really mind the chibi look, it looks like a modern era look for the older games.
I don't mind the chibi tbh, but what I don't like is the lack of character redesigns for the gym leaders and trainers. This is something that is usually done every time a game from an old console is adapted to a newer one. No, they definitely won't. BDSP is Nintendo's big card for Christmas, and Legends Arceus needs to release close so it can tie in and profit using Sinnoh's hype while is still fresh.
I dont dislike the fact that they are Chibi. I just think that the colors, textures, lighting and the models look horrible. I really dont understand why company that produces games for the most well known franchise cant get something like that right, when so many indie developers are doing such a great job. I probably wont buy the game and i wouldnt even describe myself as a pokemon fan, (Ive only ever played like 2 games smth) i just have no idea what gamefreaks problem is.
Cheaply made (relatively speaking) game for max profit rather than balance of quality and profit.
I actually wanted Chibi Remakes so I am more than Happy
Dude, we live in an age where Graphics do kind of matter with advance and capable technology like the Switch. Yes Gameplay is the main thing that matters in a game, BUT we are now in a time where Graphics (and Story) are on a equal level to Gameplay now and this game looks... passable but not amazing. Link's Awakening looks better and also other RPGs like Digimon Story Cyber Slueth, Dragon Quest XI and very recently Monster Hunter Stories 2 show what Pokémon could be, but nope. I respect your opinion but I disagree with this one.
Funny how you say Twilight Princess looks worse than Wind Waker when showing remaster footage of Wind Waker.
ILCA messed these remakes up big time, especially with the chibi overworld sprites mocking the Link's Awakening remake. Even so on, the games have the exact same original DP storyline and not many other features to think of. It just comes to show you that things go from the good, the bad, and the ugly.
2D styles where lit and always will be
It’s not going to be an instant buy for me. But I have such a strong bias for Gen 4, so I’m going to read and watch a lot of reviews when it comes out. If they improved the graphics and there’s enough content…I might have to take the plunge. But only if it’s worth it
I may be speaking for myself, but first off.. I do not mind the chibi art. But Let's Go was honestly a beautiful game. It was still basically a 1:1 of RBY, the Pokémon looked good, and my favorite part of it was sending my Eevee to fight Brock's Onix. The sense of scale was great. Sure it had flaws (like forcing the control scheme was such an awful idea) but graphically, it looked great. I hope (at least in battle) that Pokémon are to scale in BDSP.
I’m on the thumbnail lmao edit: nice, you use skyward sword music instead of pokemon this time
I would at least have liked an cellshading & an outline around the characters but I'm fine with that.
It's in development and it's not gf so don't worry
@@cosmictrainer2919 but I think the director is from Gamefreak or most likely someone from them watches over the project by ILCA.
4:04 (about map design and 2d sprites) - 3d ten times faster to animate, it is just cheaper due to automatisation, engines, many people can work together: one draw, another animate... if you have money for engine and many people, but if you want something unique: visual effects or your favorite sokoban puzzles, it would be as hard as create game from scratch
I agree I don’t care how much people talk mess about it I’m just glad we got are remakes
People don't have issues with chibi artstyle, but its quality in this instance. To even imply that people issue is just a matter of opinion is a deflection and dishonest argumentation. This artstyle lacks shading and proper outlines to characters, it has clashing elements of different nature and color palette is just radioactive waste level of saturated. Considering this is a game coming from a bunch of developers that only made Pokémon Home, while it might be all artistic choice, it surely doesn't look like it.
agree, I dislike the chibi style only for its quality. I don't mind chibi style in general. I hope they flesh it out before release as a response to fans' criticism (euphemism I know)
I will say many do seem to dislike having chibi proportions, expecting the look to be more like SwSh, "realstic" and all...I however is fine with chibi, but it really does look rough at the moment, although after seeing the viral fanmade Sinnoh concept game, surely ILCA could've done much better right?
No, people specifically complained about the chibis. A lot.
@@spade4acer It seems those who are against chibis are those who are fine with SwSh's layout, despite its flaws. I dislike SwSh's inconsistency of art style and much prefer if they kept it like Let's Go for now, but I would rather have a big map with chibis rather than corridors or empty spaces with a "realistic" look (although needed more details IMO).
@@zjzr08 yeah i agree, the chibis in bdsp haven't been executed well but in general i just don't like pokemon going towards a more realistic graphic style. I loved gen 7 graphics tho
Spitting facts.
I'm totally glad you like abstract art style. It's like I've been saying, these graphics are referencing how the original graphics looked before the 3D feature came along, even going for the chibi look on the characters when not battling.
Haha, yeah. Battle frontier. I think the people who wanted one more got have given up that being in the “faithful” remakes too. I don’t mind it but it’d be nice.
There's chibi and there's chibi.
i dont prefer chibi, but if its gonna be so, at least make it look good
rhar will be interesting
Thank you! Someone else said it! I’ve been saying since we got BDSP announced in February. Everyone complained since Sword/Shield were announced that the games looked horrible. And when we got the games, everyone complained about EVERYTHING!!! But when I saw BDSP in an easier art style to work with, I knew they’d be able to fix things. And after today’s Present, I feel like I was right. We wouldn’t get all of these quality of life changes id they stuck with the Sword/Shield art style.
I liked Superman's mullet.
I'm okay with chibi most Pokemon games were like that, what I hate the most are lazy animations like double kick in SnS that's inexcusable.
I personally prefer more stylised graphics for Pokémon. I don’t want photorealism or something similar to the pikachu movie, not saying that style isn’t good. The problem with BDSP is that the chibi designs are taken straight from the DS sprites and they don’t translate well straight to 3D graphics. They just needed to think about the designs a bit more like Link’s awakening.
They aren't stylized at all and will probably look terrible in a couple of years. Yeah I agree with your point as well. Not everything from the DS will translate well into 3D
Agree
Dude I'm not gunna lie wen we first saw it I was like omg but then I sorted liked it and after seeing the new presents I'm now glad its chibeye and think it looks great its not like we had sword and shield graphics back in the day
It's cute
Zelda fans hated the links awaking remake art but now they love it wtf
Nothing new it happened with Wind Waker as well.
I like them, It's Cute
what they really should've fixed was the pokemon atk and battle animations. Like we still have blastoise using his mouth for hydro pump, not to mention the other horrible atk animations
I can forgive it's abstract look because if Game Freak haven't put it in upfront of Sword & Shield as the reason for cutting content I would no care for it, but when I know they probably have means for animation like in pokemon colosseum you start to make questions why are those animations used for those pokemon and start giving animation for the one who don't have it yet, if you're going to cut corners anyway why not recycle what you already have and improve from those
I don't think realistic is what GameFreak is going for when I think realistic I think about games like The Last Us where the characters and environment look realistic I don't think GameFreak has ever tried to do that with Pokémon. To be honest I like Sword & Shield but their definitely not the best Pokémon games and in my *opinion* there isn't a bad Pokémon mainline game because I think the core formula works so well but at the same time It would be nice to see them try new things and I think ever sense Sun & Moon that's what they've been trying but with baby steps and now it feels like their taking a bigger leap. Also you aren't the only one who likes the Chibi artstyle I know the negativity of it is strong on the internet and tends to drown out the postitivity but I've seen multiple videos where people express how they like the remakes looks.
36 seconds ago can’t tuna kekeke
you were poking fun at pokemon unite at the end but I unironically think it is a better game than the last few generations of pokemon lmao
My problem with it is that there doesn't seem to be that "polish", despite the fact that they've simplfied the graphics with chibi art. And while graphics are not the most important when it comes to the final game, in pre-release they are the first indicator of the amount of effort being put into the game, and I would argue ILCA and TPC did not do a good job convincing me that they cared. I do hope that unlike Gamefreak, ILCA will gradually continue to improve BDSP, as seen in the OLED trailer and eventually prove everything I say here wrong, but I'll keep my expectations low.
i’m fine without the swsh style because it looks cute to me and i like that they’re going back to the basics and it looks like a charming kids game considering the fact that the game is for kids not 30 year olds
I agree. 2d is the answer to all of the problems. We will all be simping hard if gamefreak makes octopath traveler graphics.
Thanks you I really love pokemon brilliant diamonds and shiny pearl colors and graphics too the one in February of this year and I think fake pokemon fans should stop hurting pokemon brilliant diamonds and shiny pearl for no reason and besides they got pokemon league games which is dark looking for colors and us real pokemon fans got pokemon brilliant diamonds and shiny pearl which is colorful and I hope they can be that way forever like February of this year
