I understand that people nowadays prefer lighter mice but say a mouse is bad just because they aren't a cheese grater that weights 50 grams is ridiculous
100% agree, it's become a dang shame
In fairness I’d agree with someone saying that isn’t interested because they already have a light weight mouse. But if that not the case then there’s some good quality mices out there. Also in my case, I couldn’t go up in weight because I’m playing a 110cm/360 sensitivity in most games, would be painful lmao
@@TheThirdWorldCitizen all of the light weight mice make my hand cramp because i have long fingers so use the rival 600 but if the made the 600 or the 710 lighter i would buy it in a second
@@shaolinmaster8583 that’s understandable, it’s unfortunate that at the moment the weight relies in the size too
I don"t think mouse aimed toward palm grip should be light.I understand fingertip mouse need to be light especially on fast shooter but palm grip is more about stability.
i love how you cover things because theyre good products and not just the hype top brand
Ikr lol
Ye
The side by side comparisons with your grip were really helpful, thank you ! Also, I totally agree with the light mouse trend being a bit too much sometimes. Nothing I've tried can feel quite like a deathadder v2 pro for me
Finally a vid on this. Ordered one last week can’t wait to use it. Great video 👍🏻‼️
Mad to think we are considering 85g as "too heavy" when most CSGO pros are rocking zowie mice!
true
it just people prefers low weight mouse nowadays since it just feels better
I love big mice, the side buttons the way you set it was cool volume up and volume down. I love this video
It has been a while since I last watched you. You helped me chose the gear for my setup, if im being honest you are one of the most honest tech reviewers and you deserve more than what you have. Thankyou
thank you o much, hope you swing by more often ;)
Whats ur gear
@@lucutes2936 For the mouse, I chose the Razer Viper mini due to the small size of my hand, and for the keyboard, I went with the Corsair k100 since I like to game and do a lot of work with the num pad.
@@tepete772 thx
Excellent review dude - I agree, not all mice HAVE to be hyper-lightweight. Glad to see Steelseries releasing this.
Was waiting for you to do this review ma man!
Bruh, how do you have only that much subs, you make the best review vids. Definetly deserve more
thank you so much!

Oh man am I glad I found this channel. I’m a huge mouse nerd (own 50+) and it’s downright painful to watch some of the other reviewers just regurgitating the specs and clicking the mouse next to their mic. I really appreciate how real you are, dude! Can’t wait to catch up on your library!
yeah tiny mouse suck for me i have giant fingers and hands I cant use that tiny 50 grams crap
At last something for us larger hands that need some thumb button functionality !! Thank you. Love Steel series, especially the software. 👍👍
Honestly the first to come up with this review! I knew Techne gonna make a review for sure if none does, totally agreed with you!
thank god man i was waiting for someone to make a good and well said review
Finally. Been curious about this mouse for awhile now. Haven’t seen one in-store yet too. That’s the problem with some “communities,” some people feel like it is good to lookdown on others, when in fact everything is based on each persons preferences in the first place.
Awesome video my dude, might get this mouse now after hearing the bad reviews about the adhesive strips on the Rival 650 Wireless and the Rival 600 Wired.
Totally agree with dantheman. Favorite reviewer by far. Perfect example I'm somewhat new to the gaming scene came in around 10 months ago and all the reviews said the RZR huntsman mini was the best 60% keyboard so I went to Best buy and I bought one and within one day I had to return and get a new one three times All I did was switch the keycaps out once and on all three boards multiple keys got jammed it was hands down the worst keyboard I have ever used and I was blown away that there were all these reviewers people who are some of the top reviewers in the gaming scene not just saying it was a good keyboard but that it was one of the top five best keyboards That's when I discovered our man over here and I have been watching his videos pretty exclusively ever since. They're honest, to the point, and basically just spot on and have led me to picking all of my products in various different price ranges and that's the other thing I love about his videos he doesn't always focus on the $200 new headset If there's a $60 one that's just as good this is the guy who tells you. Love the videos keep doing what you're doing, wish you nothing but success in years to come.
I'm giving my boyfriend a mouse for his birthday. I've researched a lot and was pretty decided on the corsair ironclaw until I saw an article praising the rival 5, like 30 minutes ago. I searched your review on the ironclaw but didn't found and, now I'm on this huge doubt! :(
weight doesn’t rly bother me on mice too bad. i saw this one and INSTANTLY added to my cart. i love steelseries and half of my setup is all them. dunno why more ppl haven’t done a review. rly good vid
I swear every time I wanna buy something new you always have a good review posted!, and always pick you first, keep up the good work!
Would you say the shape of this is similar to the 310? I love the profile of that mouse and chose not to get the prime series because of it
does the side pad seem to detach like the rival 6? I have had to replace them twice in my year of use because the glue used seems to be sub-par to say the least.
The no onboard memory was actually a deal breaker for me, thank you for your thorough review! lol. I hate having unnecessary software startup with my PC and shave it down to as little as possible.
I might have to try this one. i really like the extra buttons that this mouse has. my left hand dexterity sucks, so having the option for more keyboard binds is great.
is the white button used by the thumb hard to reach? ive been having speculations about that....
Your presentation style is awesome; you sound like that fun cool neighbor to have barbeque with by the poolside.
In a previous Rival mouse, one of the side buttons wasn't actually usable(!). Are there any such issues with the Rival 5?
Rival 600 user here, planning on getting this one since my mouse wheel is broken. just gonna ask if the silver button is a little awkward to press? Because on the Rival 600, the button 7 is a little far from the thumb to press on. I really liked the lighting effects of the rival 600 but the button 7 is just really hard to reach for my asian hands so I'm a little worried that the Rival 5 mouse would be the same.
When you got that laptop out at 8:25 to show the software i got so well surprised and it look so cool! Instant like!
very nice clear review thanks a lot!! mouse seems awesome I might get it :)
Hey techne since you are almost an expert in this area which mouse from steelseries has the shape of the steelseries rival 100? Used the mouse for years and i really love that shape
I'm thinking about buying one, is it possible to make some mods in it for make it a bit lighter?
I use the 650 now. The main problem with that mouse is the rubber side grips. Does the rival 5 use rubber sides or are they using something else? I really need to know cuz my rubber grip keeps coming off
i need to choose steelseries comfort grip and accurate pointer and confident which one is best?
Any chance you can review any lefty/ambidextrous mice? I like your vids but I pretty much have no idea what to look for except the Viper Ultimate or Logitech G903. Carpal tunnel has forced me to swap hands lol
I’ve been waiting for this review I just want a pretty light mouse with at least 3 buttons and saw this but no one was making a review
does this mouse have rubber on the sides? my current mouse does and I hate because when it feels really gross sometimes especially if my hands start to sweat.
Does your ring finger ever get pinched when right clicking this mouse? Just wondering because the right mouse button comes down pretty far, does that feel awkward having to keep your ring finger below it? Thanks.
If I have a larger hand, would you recommend this or the viper 8k
Hey Techne can you please do a review on the JBL Quantum 800 gaming headset. I would love to see what you think of them. Also amazing vid like always keep up the great work.
Love your attitude. You from new york by any chance? Feels like it. Great review, thanks.
Keep the good work, im new to your channel but i feel more identified with you than with other great youtubers like badseed tech, the great Brandon Taylor, RandomFrank, etc.
thank you so much for the kind words and support.
The plate under those 2 side buttons, what's it made from?
Hey man big fan, I’ve been wondering for l Right now what would be the best budget 144hz monitor like under $300 or $200
I have big hands, my perfect mouse is rarely the same as other people. Took a chance on this one and first impressions are model O and g703 and mama elite levels of utility. I actual do intent fully on Swiss cheesing this mouse and using my helium pipe technique to litigate and mitigate the shortcomings because it fits my hands very close to perfect
You're great at reviewing stuff btw
thank you so much
I wanna ask i bought white shark mouse does it have software to change color ?
Could you review the msi optix 24 g242 montior as it's so cheap for a ips 1080p 144hz monitor and please can you review the jbl quantum 400 headset
Big mouse people are suffering the same issues that small mouse people faced years back. I think there is room for harmony, atm only razer is in true harmony for extra small, small, medium, medium large and deathadder. Steelseries is an amazing company, they should release the ikari shape again, best ergonomics. But with the powdered medal sensei coating which to this day is still the best versatile coating I've ever had on a mouse. I've since gotten 2 of their later mice and returned them. The newer sensei has terrible coating, is really heavy, which is more apparent on hard pads. And their mmo mouse which is made for a giants hands, it is physically impossible to use it properly. I would buy a small ikari wireless for as much as the price of a star light. Even with bad innards, because the shape was just so damn juicy.
I just got mine yesterday and absolutely love it. Immediately in my top 5. I'd make a few small changes to have it be perfect (or #1 for me), but it's pretty dang nice. Not a huge fan of the cable, and I wish it were ~10 grams lighter. The clicks and scroll wheel are so nice, and the RGB is incredibly bright. I'm glad they decided not to use the Rival 600's rubber side grips as those things always get nasty and fall off over the years.
I 100% agree with you man
@@TheTechne I don’t know if you noticed this while doing your review but the clicks feel better than they sound. The noise doesn’t really do them justice. It’s not like the Orochi where they are very loud and crispy sounding, but they are so nice to feel and use. My two cents/observations, at least. :) enjoyed your review as always.
@@TheThirdeYe1337 U know I noticed that when editing the video. Like wow it sounded bad, but they do not sound or feel bad in person. Maybe I had the mouse too close to the mic.
@@TheTechne I think it might just be the nature of the switches/shell design. I noticed the same thing with my Rival 3 Wireless. Great feeling switches, but they just don't sound that good when clicked quickly.
The grey button is too far away for me not in lign with the other buttons so i have to reach alot or chance hand positon just to touch it
Just noticed your destiny ghost back on the shelf back there! Very cool! You play destiny?
hey techne thank you for the review! I just had a question: does it feel like that thumb button gets in the way while you hold it? I’m wondering because I’ve got fairly big hands (20 cm) and I’m considering buying this
no not at all. many other mice with this feature to get in the way, but this one does not at all
@@TheTechne thanks so much! One more question, if you don’t mind. would you recommend this over the prime mouse for people like me who like palm gripping and ergonomic style mice? the prime looks like it has a great ergonomic shape but it does look a lot smaller for my big hands, and it also seems to be more for claw/fingertip people...
i didn't even know they had a rival 5. did this release recently?
I honestly only wanted the holes on the surface on my mouse for sweaty games. My palms get sweaty as is playing with controller, I might need that feature.
Seems as tho that odd tild button could be used quite well as a melee flicking up
Thank you for this review. I was just saying why is there no hype for this amazing mouse!!! People have gotten obsessed with puny fingertip grip mice. I have huge hands I need this.
right! It's sad man, all these tiny mice!
You sold me on this. I'm really interested in the extra side buttons to use as a aim tilt in games like DayZ and tarkov. Gonna head out and pick it up today.
what happend¿
@@BahmutOni it's been solid for the year. Awesome mouse. No issues
Exactly! I would also like to see a wireless version.
Techne is the main reason I went for an all Steelseries peripherals, and I have never looked back
how’s it compare to the rival 3? i love my rival 3 but those extra side buttons on the 5 are looking pretty nice
bigger
I prefer a stiff cable. Because they don't get UNDER your mouse when you reset your arm/mouse after a quick 180 headshot. Which has happened to me quite a few times with a non stiff cable. (And no, I will not go wireless because I always forget to charge them)
In the spirit of reviewing mice that swims against the current of being superlight, holed, etc. Maybe review the Razer Naga Pro? not alot of reviews on that one either. which i found weird considering how legendary the OG Naga is
How good is it compared to the rival 600? I loved the rival 600's shape but never liked the fact that it's over 100gs
Dude that opening was all i wanted to say. Ty from covered me.
Do u prefer sensei 10 or rival 5?
It's a multi tasking mouse(moba, fps, battle royal all with a single mouse), it isn't meant to be light, the mouse fells in the same catagory as Rival 600, g502 hero or Basilisk V2 which are 128g, 121g and 92g respectively, so it's the lightest among it's compitator and its own ancestor! Anyway great video either!
This channel is stinkin cozy, man. Keep up the good work. Idk if you've been asked before, but what's your hand size? (in cm)
thank you so much, I think like, 12x19 ish I think
Techne, can you tell me what model of eyeglass frames you wear? The look so awesome :)
Oakley Latch EX, such a great frame. Lightweight but solid.
@@TheTechne thx :)
@@TheTechne When do we get the first glasses review lol
@@lingonberryjam320 man could you imagine an Oakley plug, yo sign me up, lol
@@TheTechne Hahaha, man you are truly a special product reviewer! Keep it up man!
I've rocked the Steelseries 600, and the 650 wireless the last year or two. One big problem with steelseries mices is the clickers. They tend to fail relativly quickly. 3 of my buttons on the 650 wireless ( about 1 year old) is glitchy and works only sometimes. Going to skip the rival 5 and go for a logitech
eh ive gone through a few mice but after looking up what mice were best for cs go back when i cared about the game i heard about the rival 500, so i got it. its definitely a great mouse. i havent had a problem with the clicker going early on either of the 3 i had. ones clicker did die but that was after a few years and i managed to fix it. plus steelseries comes with an auto clip for multi kills which has been nice
@@meowmeow9326 Meh. I am over steelseries products. They are very overpriced for what you get if you compare to other Brands. Been using Xtrfy since my last 650 wireless without any problems.
Can’t wait to see the wireless one
the reds in your videos are always so vivid i gotta know how u do that
he prolly shoots canon
nice vid techne love ya vids
Thank u so much
Rival 310 have served me well, can't find a worthy upgrade. I am a big fan of a palm grip mice. The ultralight ones are too small for me.
rival 5, rival 600 or rival 310? for a medium/large hand wo¡ith palm grip
just got this for £25 second hand. Should be a solid upgrade, I was using a G402 before, g402: 144g, no RGB, 3 thumb buttons Rival 5: 87g, RGB, 5 thumb buttons
Nice review👍👍 Also i got a question what keyboard should i get Ducky One 2 mini,Alloy origins 60,Huntsman mini or Corsair k65 mini? (all the same price in my country)
origins 60
@@TheTechne also are the switches loud on the origins 60?
@@howtomakemoneyonline1941 kzhead.info/sun/gMh-lK2JZIBnpn0/bejne.html
@@TheTechne thanks a lot you are the best👍👍
Very detailed review, The Rival 5 feels like a decent buy, it's a big boi. I agree with you that we shouldn't judge what mice we use, it sucks that some people go wild if they know your mice doesn't have holes in it 😂
I really like this mouse the aerox looks great but it is too light for my likings im happy that i got the last rival 5 in stock at the store :D
Techne! Do you have any plans for a review of the newly rumored/announced Steelseries Prime wireless? Maybe a teaser coming soon?
I will review all SteelSeries Products
I like mice with many buttons so when I saw it I really liked the amount of side buttons, great review vid, you deserve way more subs than you have
thank you ;)
SteelSeries tried doing a jack of all trades mouse which I really like but the mouse community does not
Hey techne do wicked cushions work on the Corsair virtuoso xt
no, but they are working on some, prob next month
in ss sensei ten, macro can't bind/detect event scroll up/down
Can rival 5 save a macro in onboard memory ?
I find it funny how you talk like you dont wanna hurt its feelings, loved the video really helpfull thx
nice review, i bought it on CSGO and its really nice :), i had 155gram so many years :D, i like full size dimensions and RGB
Yes it’s nice to have light cheese grater with crazy rgb but I mean some people don’t look for functionality, real shame
Yes finally a person does a video about this mouse, and This mouse to me is better than the Aerox 3 I never owned a aerox 3 because of how bad it is
as somebody with one hand i really "need" that lil button in front of the wheel. The logitech G400s is my forever mouse because of it's layout... NO other mouse has come out that services this need since.. Companies have all but given up on this great design!
Hey could u review the msi clutch gm41
Compared to the Sensei Ten what do you think of this mouse? I got the Sensei Ten recently like 2 months ago but I do like the look of this Rival 5
I love the 10, this is a great mouse, it's just the cable that stinks
@@TheTechne I wont get the Rival 5 for now maybe down the line or next year and try use the 10 :) also got the 5800x today upgraded from the Ryzen 5 2600 and the Cod FPS is soooo good ;)
The volume idea is pretty cool, but steelseries keyboards have a build in volume scroll, that you can click in to mute. But anyone who doesn't, that's super cool idea!
true, but you don't have to take your hands off your game with this at all, so cool
Awesome video, looks like you have 6 haters 😒 keep up the good work!
Bought one yesterday, gonna return it. Have a weird twist in the cable giving a slight force which is annoying. the plastic is super cheap, right clicking makes a 2nd sound which bothers me loads. And the software has to run 24/7 or its a discoball. I dont like to have 200-250 Megabyte loaded in my RAM all the time just for the RGB to be turned off, its stupid.
Sure hope they don’t have crappy adhesive on the rubber side grips like on the Rival 600.
Cable quality?
Any double click issues with it? I am tired of paying gazilions dollars for a mice that double clicks on single push...
Roccat Kone Pro/Air have become my mains. I have large hands, and I find that the shape is perfect for me.
I miss their MMO mouse. It's unobtainium here nowadays :( I'm settling with the G604 now.
You got my sub today.. finally an honest reviewer.. that dosent put the light weight on a pedistal! Gj
thank you so much for the support
😅 I have this mouse right now, actually. Using it in place of my Razer Basilisk because I ran out of batteries to keep using it and decided I'm just gonna get a new wired mouse in the future.
