Martin O’Neill | “Are We Allowed To Call You Martin Now?” Leicester’s The Place Podcast: Episode 6
Iconic former Leicester City Manager, Martin O’Neill joins his former players Matt Elliott and Gerry Taggart on this episode of Leicester's The Place.
The Northern Irishman arrived at Filbert Street in 1995 and despite a difficult start, went on to oversee one of the most successful periods in recent history. O’Neill’s four-and-a-half seasons saw a Play-Off victory, three League Cup Finals, two of which ended with wins, and two qualifications for the UEFA Cup, and four consecutive top-half Premier League finishes.
He discusses winning over a hostile Filbert Street crowd, signing Matt Elliott despite his scouting mission, those ‘Martin Please Don’t Leave’ signs, plus Wembley glory.

Ranieri may have had the greatest season but what Martin did on a shoestring with all that boardroom squabbling makes him the best manager we've had in my opinion. Nice to hear from these 3 Leicester legends.
This is the Leicester I grew up with , pure magic . The reason I’m a Leicester fan , I was a kid then .
Fabulous listen, what a great episode of LTP. Lucky enough to have lived through MON's reign. Really humbling how much he loved his time with LCFC and especially that other than the Celtic calling, he would have stayed with us. Legend, never forgotten 🦊⚽️❤️
Some of the best memories watching his team in the 90s, filbert street legend
A real trip down memory lane from when I first became a Leicester fan, those days were magical under Martin and I'd have them back in an instant.
3 City legends on the sofas there... Big Gerry & Matty , never a backwards step & with M o 'N at the helm brought us up to heights that we thought we'd never achieve ....👌🏻😃
What a legend MON was! Just remember, fans wanted him out before the good times came along... maybe some of our fans can remember that in 2023 too... This is the sort of content I wish the club produced more of. This and the Maresca / Ballague interview were great.
That’s was fantastic. Thank you. Always love hearing the stories of the Leicester when Martin was in charge and hero’s Taggart and Elliot were playing.
I was surprised recently when I did an internet search on Zeljko Kalac the Australian keeper who's Leicester career lasted two games after a game howler and wasn't trusted by Martin. The result told me he signed and played For AC Milan around 38 times in the Italian League. That's one hell of football agent
Made Leicester City a real Force to be reckoned with in every way ..... Great times 🦊👏
What a great episode. Wonderful. He is THE genuine Leicester City legend.
The great days of the foxes and a great manager,he had a great mentor the wonderful Brian Clough.
What a time! Martin a Great man & manager, with fab characters / great players! It shows what a extraordinary team ethic they had, as a lot of them still at the clubs in some sort of capacity 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great to see Martin looking so well. Still as sharp as ever 😂
Three great Leicester men.
Absolutely awesome chat, loved it!💖💖
❤ Leicester legends one and all
Legend, thank you so much for what you did. I hate the fact i was one of the initial boo boys. My apologies!
Love you Martin ❤
Martin!! my hero
Still my favourite manager.
Remember the Norwich game, sitting in the double decker; Walker strutting on the touch line for TV like he owned the place
Also, what Martin fails to mention about the game when we beat Norwich and he became Leicester manager - the Leicester fans were singing "3 points... and your manager!". It wasn't announced that he'd left until after the game.
good
Referee lost control of game, no way was there three just three minutes. Who asseses the refereeing standards?
Don't get why Matts so desperate not to call him gaffer though.
does matt have a toupee on?
What is with Iversen? Start playing him instead of terrible Hermansen.
Hermansen hasn't really made many major mistakes, plus Enzo, like GK's who can play with the ball at his feet, Iversen has terrible distribution.
I was at that meeting aftr the sheff utg game got pulled out of the crowd and got taken into the room i was realy pissed off but after 10 minutes of hearing martin talk i realised that thiS LEGEND was gonna lead us to success
