  • I had a dachshund that side off intervertebral disc disease. Pretty sure I told this story in the short about dachshunds too. I had this longhaired, albino dachshund named Figge a few years ago. He was just walking up the stairs on our porch, something he did every day, but that time he got hurt and just stopped. The vets said they could maybe keep him alive for 3 months but my dad didn’t want the dog to suffer so we had to put him down. He was a very sweet dog and we only had him for a little less than a year. He had a pretty horrible life before that where his previous owners ignored him and locked him in a room all day. But I’m very happy that his last months was spent with my father because the two were made for each other. To all dog owners with dogs that have short legs and long bodies, take good care of them and carry them up stairs.

  • What I love this guy for is the fact that (I assume) he's an animal lover like most of us here, but instead of saying something like "obese pets are cute" , he's spreading awareness about them. Of course it isn't just obese pets, he's spreading information about any problems in the pet world and I really appreciate that as it seems not many people are very interested in proper research

  • I have had 2 basset hounds growing up, and I am lucky enough to not have that issue with them. If anything they had a lot of bad ear infections, that needed to be cleaned out daily. The oldest one we got, started forming large cysts on his back. My youngest one has had leukemia at a young age. We walked them daily to prevent them getting fat because it is very true, they love food more than any dog breed I have met, and they for sure are very lazy dogs. They also formed a curved leg, one leg specially would be turned more outward.

  • I didn't know this. Is part of the problem is because they are not being used for what they're bred for? My neighbors had two and they were extremely healthy and very strong however their 😂bark sound like an air horn. But he always took them hunting with them and had a training/playground in backyard.

    • That's a huge part of it. They'll eat anything you put in front of them.We train ours for tracking and keep track of food and treats to make sure he's not over fed. He's extremely healthy and very athletic for a basset. They actually love to work if you make it worth it for them. I feel like a lot of basset owners just fall for the sweet puppy dog eyes (it's hard not to) and give them all the treats or feed them more than they need to.

  • Bassets are _hunting_ dogs. They should not be sitting still for long. If you allowed your dog to get fat like that it's your own damn fault.

  • Just ban breeds with health issues like this already. It's cruel to put animals like that into this world.

    @jaggonjaggon7695@jaggonjaggon76955 ай бұрын
    • I don't think banning entirely is necessary. Breeders can also breed out the genes that cause problems. Same as the pug, which breeders are trying to give a longer snout to help with breathing issues and calling these dogs 'retro pugs'

    • I’ve two Bassetts. This video is mostly negative another breed. Yes. They are chow hounds. Restrict their food intake according to pet food instructions , no table food (!) and regular outside play and / or a 15 minute walk everyday. And you will have a slim 50# adult Bassett hound. Again, this video is biased about the Bassett hound. Do your own research and don’t believe everything you read, or hear from social media.
