  • As a DIY detailer I appreciate your attention to detail and learn a lot from watching professionals such as yourself. I understand all the comments that say the price for this service is a tad ridiculous. I also understand that using a top-tier product is not cheap and neither is all the experience required to install it correctly! The old adage will always stand, cheap price = cheap job. If I wanted a PPF installed on a supercar to be able to protect my investment…I know who to call to have it done properly!

    • I'll be the first one to tell you I'm expensive lol. I tell everybody including customers you can find a less expensive job. But it won't be the same experience. When you own such a expensive car the extra few thousand dollars is like deciding if you want Fry's with your burger. It's not a big deal one way or another. Some people do go to the less expensive places too. No problem with me. Gotta do what's best for you! Thanks for commenting 🙂🙂

  • Great work as always from Status. We just finished a 2024 992 C2S and also do extensive paint correction prior to PPF. In our experience, we have found that PPF will cover and hide most paint imperfections and we sometimes make a judgement call as to how much clear coat to remove from the car vs. hiding the problem with PPF. Paint correct 100% for sure, but sometimes the cut is deep and the hide effect is safer for the car.

    @chuck121370@chuck12137023 күн бұрын
    • Agreed! I talk about this in a few videos especially on nasty defects requiring sanding. We aim to remove all the defects and jewel the paint into a ridiculously glossy state and then lock that in. But managing clear coat depth is a serious thing! If your thinking about that your already leagues ahead of most PPF installers 👍

  • Status Detail is the real deal! Just bought a new car and emailed them about a similar job. Evan was extremely helpful and took the time to educated me on allot of things that helped me out. In the end it helped me find a local shop. I was going to send it out to status but I drive my cars and would have been an inconvenience to send it out every time I need a panel redone due to me driving the car and my OCD about scratches. As for the 18k price ... It is what it is. My local shop is charging me 11k for the work which is about what Evan would have charged minus the shipping. You pay for the time it takes to do the job properly and the skill level of the installer. I was going for a Matt PPF over a gloss paint and for that, install quality trumps all. The folks that complain about the cost are not the clients that would pay for or even appreciate the effort it takes to do things properly. Great vid Evan and great job on the GT-R! Oh and apologies for not returning the last email. I have been swamped with work.

    @zissist@zissist5 сағат бұрын
    • No problem at all 🙂 Thank you for watching! And appreciate the pricing in your comment. When you figure in my price minus shipping I'm typically more but obviously very competitive considering the product I turn out. So for many people the shipping as seen as no big deal to just make sure it's done perfectly. Almost like buying insurance. A status detail is a pretty sure thing lol. But shippya car is a bit inconvenient for some and well it can be expensive so it won't be for everyone. Glad you got your car squared away and hope you enjoy many fun miles with it 🙂👍🤝

    @knownzero@knownzero21 күн бұрын
    • I would think they do great work but I've never seen it up close. I'm not sure how that business is structured currently either. I'm sure they have multiple employees. So that introduces questions like how many of them do PPF. Do the ones with most experience only do the really expensive cars or do you have a vetaren doing a car with a guy who has 6 months experience? At what point do you trust the new guy to work on a car by himself? I'm my opinion that's over a year because PPF is complex. Most companies can't afford to train a guy that long then risk he just leaves to make all the money himself. Tricky business. I've seen many of the videos on there channel. I think overall they must be doing a great job and are a good source of detailing information. Todd appears to be a top notch detailer. The tricky part is who else is doing all the work. That's why this business currently is essentially completely me. So you know my last car will look like my next car. No inconsistency from employee to employee. Safe to say esoteric does high end work. As does Larry at ammo and the other big names

    @Huso-pp6ey@Huso-pp6ey23 күн бұрын
    • STEK has 10 year warranty! Theoretically it should last much longer than that if your garage captain not driving it very much like I assume this car will be used. It is however a good idea to remove it around 8 9 10 years old is if you wait too long it can be difficult to remove. But that's more common when a car is like outside every day.

  • Great job!!! I have a question. I was recently looking at a Mercedes GLE580 and the paint has TONS of orange peel. It kinda makes the car look cheap for $97K. Without wet sanding it, would there be a way to polish it and then add PPF to "smooth" out the orange peel look?

    @MuffinMoney@MuffinMoney23 күн бұрын
    • Sanding is th only fix. In some situations I feel like STEK PPF actually made the orange peel a little nicer looking and some 9/11s that I've done but it's pretty subtle. Unfortunately BMW Mercedes and Audi all have pretty aggressive orange peel. We just bought an X5M competition as a family car and that also has pretty gnarly orange peel for an over six figure car. I agree it's unfortunate but I'm used to it and was prepared for it so my expectations are low for paint on those cars lol.

  • Question: for the front fenders with the carbon fiber vents above the front wheels, was that area PPF film protected eventually? In the video the person cut a hole around that area to lay the fender PPF down. Next question what areas were "NOT" PPF covered on the exterior of the car. I saved this video for future reference, if the stars align I would be requesting similar service.

    @BoomBoomUTube@BoomBoomUTube14 күн бұрын
    • Great question. So much is not shown. That fender area was cut out as it needs to be cut out to install. Each individual vent has PPF installed one by one after 👍 All painted or I should say clear coated surfaces on the exterior have PPF. Including rear diffuser and partial underside of rear.

    @EmptiedPockets@EmptiedPockets10 күн бұрын
    • A catalytic converter is very different from a exhaust tip. You do need to be mindful of this too though! McLaren 720s OEM exhaust has like heat shield literally built into bumper due to heat and how the rear exit exhaust is designed. If you tune a 720 and do exhaust and or downpipes you start melting parts of that surrounding bumper and obviously PPF too. Anything shooting fire basically means your paint and PPF might not make it lol. A cat gets hotter than a exhaust tip though same thing with a downpipe. If the gtr dies open exhaust and any kind of flame tune that rear painted area is not lasting long.

  • How are you drying the car after your second wash?

    @XCityTh3King@XCityTh3King20 күн бұрын
    • After the car is paint corrected I basically blow dry the car to 99% dry. Then I take a brand new clean microfiber towel with with gyeon prep. To do a very light wipe down of any residual water and then begin the PPF. When a car is fully finished and I'm washing it like for maintenance that process is similar I'm still going to blow dry it until it's basically completely dry but then I'll take something like gtechniq ceramic sealant "C2" spray that once or twice on the panel and then dry it with a drying towel and then go around the car that way adding protection and getting the 1% of water left over

    • STEK PPF is 8 mil and 10 mil. Most people don't use the 10 as it's harder to install and stretch often resulting in more relief cuts. It can definitely have its uses though! 7-8 mil is kind of like industry standard for PPF. We also have double layered 8 mil before in high impact spots like the 992 gt3rs fender areas

      @STATUSDETAIL@STATUSDETAIL24 күн бұрын

      @adnanabbas6900@adnanabbas690024 күн бұрын
    • @@adnanabbas6900 I'm sorry that's the case! They might sell a PPF brand that doesn't offer the thicker version. Hopefully that's the case and they are honest people. Some people just don't like to talk about the thicker stuff cuz they don't want to inventory it. The reality in our situation is that if you want the film to be really invisible and look really good and have no stretch lines or adhesive lines then 9.5 times out of 10 you want the 8mil. Like I mentioned I think earlier in a comment if there were some really bad high impact areas for example on a GT3 RS or a 4 RS we might consider double layering film kind of like a tearaway on a race car helmet. So after about a year of driving you just pull off that second layer and then you still have the base. My honest opinion I find this more sensible than having a thick 10 well that still needs to be replaced after it gets beat up. At least when you have a double layer and really specific important spots you get to convenience of pulling it off and not needing to reinstall. A second double layer piece is usually a really precisely installed thing too so it's usually lower cost than you might expect.

  • I don't know if he does ceramic coats wheels, but will that protect swirls on gloss black wheels?

    @One21P@One21P12 күн бұрын
    • I did ceramic wheels. It helps in the sense that they stay cleaner longer and are easier to clean. Technically they are harder to scratch after ceramic but if you rub any grit into the wheel repeatedly it's going to swirl unfortunately. The carbon ceramic brakes don't make dust so that's a big help. If you have steel brakes it's virtually impossible to not swirl them out but a great process will make it happen slower. Auto car wash brushes will destroy it in like a month lol

Good after you make so many cuts you begin to realize how much pressure to make and then you can be confident that every cut you make will only be scoring the film and not cutting the film. For an experience installer it's extremely safe for an inexperienced installer it's a bit risky
