Mark Knopfler was recently interviewed and the interviewer told him he was rated as the best guitar player in the world. Mark replied ”utter nonsense” he then went on to list all the things he did wrong when playing guitar. He might be right, he is not the best technical player but boy is he musical and unique. I never tire of listening to him and I can tell it’s him playing the minute he starts. There’s nobody else who plays like him and to me he is the best.

I am listening to this CD for the 6th time in the last two days; I'm 75 and have been listening to and a fan of Mark's music for 50 of those 75 years; I cannot begin to express the excitement, joy, and appreciation your music and songs have brought to me and millions of others all around the world.I played bass in a band during high school and college, and while I am not even in the same galaxy as you where musicianship is concerned, I learned enough about playing guitar to recognize the brilliance and incredible guitar work and songwriting that have been your trademark since Dire Straits. You don't listen to a song collection like One Deep River so much as you feel it in your heart and soul, Like a fine wine, you have mellowed with age, and I pray that you will be around long enough to grace us with many more beautiful songs and masterful guitar work. This song reminds me of my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battling to cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, and I never missed a moment with her, life could be so unfair most times, there is some pain I will cry in vain but won’t let you know how I will feel yes but some times I wonder why bad thing always happen to good people..
It's not as if I found this music. I am blessed that this awesome music found me. If you are listening to this, you are truly blessed.

@jean-michelducarteron. I'm from the US but cannot get all the words. However, the music is such that it doesn't matter. I still get caught up in it all. The background rhythms and counter melodies, the emotions of the instruments. Lifts me up and carries me away.
