HANOI, VIETNAM: Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam, the capital of the most well known Vietnamese food around the world - pho! Today I’m hanging out with my friend Khoa from @Hanoifood and we’re taking you on an unforgettable pho tour of Hanoi. We’ll be eating at 5 of the best pho restaurants and stalls in Hanoi, and sharing with you the history of how pho came about and how it took over the world as the most famous of all Vietnamese food.
Huge thanks to Khoa: @Hanoifood
Here are all the pho spots we ate at in this video:
1. Phở Mạnh Cường (goo.gl/maps/MLh55yK9cy1x2gaKA)
Price: 55,000 VND ($2.31) per bowl
We’re starting off with a simple bowl of pho, but very popular for breakfast in Hanoi.
2. Pho Thin (goo.gl/maps/LM5viiFn85xSBhcNA)
Price: 70,000 VND ($2.94) per bowl
This is one of the most famous bowls of pho in Hanoi, and they even have restaurants abroad. One of their signatures is that they stir fry the beef instead of boiling it. It’s not doubt one of the best bowls of pho you’ll ever eat.
3. Phở Bò Ấu Triệu (goo.gl/maps/iGbqejrNy3dAnYsA8)
Price: 60,000 VND ($2.52) per bowl
Another bowl of extraordinary beef pho, this was one of my favorites of the day.
4. Phở gà Phương (goo.gl/maps/Wckk9d85ZHRUna7X8)
Price: 100,000 VND ($4.20) for full toppings
Along with beef, chicken pho has a unique history and Khoa takes me to one of his favorite places - this place is outstanding!
5. Phở Hạnh (goo.gl/maps/ukmNLSRyY5gGAnpm9)
Price: 50,000 VND ($2.10) per bowl, 80,000 VND (3.36) salad
To wrap up this ultimate Vietnamese street food pho tour we tried one more bowl of chicken pho - but this time a dry version with soup on the side. Additionally the cabbage chicken salad was life-changing.
Thank you for watching this ultimate Vietnamese street food tour in Hanoi!

My dad's a Vietnam veteran, an out of all of the Asian countries he traveled Vietnam grabbed his heart the most. That's why his ptsd is so bad. He always said we destroyed such a gorgeous country but he loves the look of it today.
Amoré thank you for sharing such personal details with us, I do hope your father is ok. It says a lot about someone’s strength of character who has experienced the worst yet doesn’t associate the location with all those hideous memories. Please give your father a big hug and tell him us army brats in the Uk support veterans too 🫡
Im Vietnamese, your dad not destroyed Vietnam, communists did it.

I’m Mexican grew up in California I was introduced to pho at a young age. And I love it I eat it at least twice a month it’s so homey and makes me feel at home even though I’m Mexican! Much love to Vietnam 🇻🇳!
Pho also shares a lot of ingredients with Mexican cuisine which makes it even better
I watched a video episode where Mark and his Vietnamese friend visited famous pho restaurants in Hanoi. I was filled with emotions and amazed when I switched to his channel to watch how he talked about Hanoi Pho. As a Hanoi local and a passionate lover of traditional Hanoi cuisine, I truly admire his communication style. 1- The way he filmed and narrated was very engaging, energetic, and incredibly natural. 2- He did research on the origins of Pho, so the video editing truly became high-quality, providing useful information to the viewers. He was clever in respecting his Vietnamese friend. 3- Most importantly, what I highly appreciate is that even though he is not Vietnamese, he had a certain knowledge about Pho before tasting it. His eating style and approach were quite close to the criteria of enjoying Pho. I can assert that with his extensive experience and vast knowledge of cuisine, he had found the most proper way to eat Pho for himself. However, for the audience, he went through the additional experience of tasting various flavor profiles and exploring different notes to convey to his viewers. 4- I hope that the next time he visits Hanoi, he can find a local guide who can help him discover more mysterious Pho places. A guide who possesses more knowledge about the culinary history and food culture, enabling them to interact directly with him on the set. That would be truly priceless. I truly admire and love him.
His knowledge about Pho origin is better than many Vietnamese. Impressive!
I will never forget the wonderful taste of vegetarian🥬 pho (without chicken) that I ate the night when I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is the No1 country in Southeast Asia that serves us best French baquette🥖 and coffee☕. I really like Banh Beo,special snack of Hue🦐.

PHO YEAH! I was born in California I remember my first bowl of pho in the 90's hands down one of my favorite all time meals especially on a cold rainy/winter days. 🙏🏿🙌🏿👍🏿
I remember my first bowl too... a great memory for sure! 🙂
Cool to hear that Cha!
Suck it... and I mean that sincerely... makes the pho taste better. The sucking causes the flavors to penetrate thoroughly throughout the taste buds, giving a full splash to your senses, including smell and taste. It's the elevated way to eat pho.
Mark has really stepped up the quality of these videos over the last couple years, and to see him back in Vietnam in this format just makes for an excellent watch. Awesome.
The intros are getting better and better, they have more hype I feel hehe it's great that he's also steadily improving
@@kdzdzdeiz yes, loving the intros lately! They get me so pumped 😅
Thank you for your support!
@@MarkWiens He’s definitely doesn’t know what he talked about. Phở in the North is terrible, mostly Msg and no vegetables. I just recently went to the North and tried their Phở and nothing compared to Saigon. Also I’ve been eating Phở for the Last 60 years and I can tell good from bad Phở just by the smell. He has a long way to go, just advertising
@@lukehoang8758 Phở originated in the North, he already ate some in the South and is now experiencing a different method of making it. No need to be snobby about it.
Mark is a humbled and respectful person👏🏽 he probably went through a lot but remained grateful so thank you Mark for your presence and kindness👏🏽👏🏽
i love how mark enjoy every bite, very humble an very respectful for the people who are doing their best every day to serve amazing food.
I love how Mark's video quality have gone better and better with every year. He puts so much care into each and everyone of them, and he's not putting out content half-heartedly like a lot of others. Quality over quantity and it is so worth it. Thank you Mark! I hope I can visit all these places you go to one day.
Thank you very much, appreciate your support over the years!
Totally agree. He keeps making these videos better in subtle ways, and I always feel like he conveys a real passion for what he's sharing - never any filler! One of my favorite channels on YT!
His videos has matured as he got older. Love the history behind the food and less yummy face 😋
I'm not sure what you are watching. I love the content Mr. Wiens has been putting out for so many years. He has had a profound effect on my life, my diet and my understanding of South East Asia. So I'm not by any means a 'troll'. That said, this is probably the worst filmed vlog he has ever put out. Shaky, blurry, far to tight shots of the food...give the camera back to Jing - she knows what she's doing....headache after 10 minutes ... I hate to be critical because this channel is awesome, but I do wonder why the top two comments are out of timing and in praise of the cinematography???
@Mark Wiens great video, any chance you know the name from the song that starts at 1:16 I'm obsessed. Great music choice
Majority of the world having Pho in their country from a Vietnamese restaurant and through social media are widely Southern Style of Pho. Most of the world rarely see this or known this style of Northern Pho from Hanoi which serve with beef and lots “I mean lots of onions”, quẩy, and pickle garlic on side. Thank you Mark for your dedication and showing the world that Pho are different from each region. Also not to mention that they did a good job to demonstrate how to enjoy egg on the side. Never mix it in with the broth because that will kill the flavor of the broth and make it stink with the egg smell. Slurp in one go peeps !
Mark you know Pho' is one of my absolute favorites of noodle soups ever! When I first met my wife of 15 years she introduced this bowl mixture of rice noodles, beef parts, & fresh herbs in clear hot broth. I took my first bite and couldn't stop until I finished it I even drank the broth. Omgoodness! Its was out if this world good! I definitely enjoyed watching you & your company slurp down those different delicious bowls of greatness. I so wish I could've been there enjoying all versions of Pho'... Thanks again Mark for the phenomenal content everytime never missing a shot of excellence and explosive tasteful quality ventures. 🌶🍜🍲
I flew into Hanoi on Jan 1st 2023 and spent 6 days there. Really loved it, it was a crazy place but it was so alive and exciting. I was eating pho multiple times a day. I can't wait to return there one day!
Nothing better than a huge bowl of Pho.
Thanks Mark, for a true and honest representation of Pho. This is the first time anywhere, I have ever heard the credit given to the actual locals and not just always the western or French creating/influencing.
Mark, thank you for visiting my hometown Hanoi. Had I known you were in town, I would've love to come by and say hello. You are my favorite food reviewer, I started watching you when you first came to Vietnam to do videos. It is tremendously pleasant to see how the video quality, the production quality has increased since your last trip to Vietnam. Please come back again and I do really hope to meet you one day just to say hi. I'm very happy for all the success you've been getting and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers Minh
Been subbed for years, and absolutely love the your story telling and history behind Vietnam and pho. Keep it up. Me and my family love watching your content together .
I absolutely love your appreciation of pho. I’ve been making chicken pho for my kids for years and this video gave me some new ideas :)
Mien ga is better than pho ga, IMHO.
Where are you from?
Mark has got to be one of the best food entrepreneur and enthusiastic dude. He has got the introduction of every travel down. Great job.
Always been watching you Mark, the way you eat and appreciate the food is enticing. Keep on showing us more please.
Can we all appreciate the fact that Mark Wiens never disappointed us with his content. 👍👍👍
每一次看都感觉自己的胃口大开,感谢你带我看到很多不曾去过的地方和那些不曾尝过的美食。
The broth at all these places looks so incredible, so fragrant, and so flavorful. I so wish I could be there consuming it all. Someday!
Every time I don‘t feel well, I watch your videos man. Your smile and your positive approach to everything is better than medicine!
I was there back in 2019 right before the pandemic hit. The best pho. Thank you for the awesome video. Keep it up Mark!
Love your videos,🌶️the history behind each dish and the enjoyment as you taste each one of them!!! I haven’t had eggs ovaries since I was a child, I used to have them all the time growing up in Colombia. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much Mark for doing the Vietnam food tour. Love your contents always.
Doggonit, Mark...just another AMAZING episode showcasing incredible food and beautiful culture. Thanks for blessing us with another gem! 💎
Your food experiences bring so much joy and education to us. I find I try things I might not have tried without you exposing it
I just got back from Vietnam and Hanoi style Pho is the best there is! When I got back home I kept eating it every chance I got!
Cool to hear that Yousif, glad you enjoyed it!
Could you see yourself living there? I am really looking into teaching English there.
It's hard to find an English teaching job at the moment in Hanoi, a lot of foreigners came to Viet Nam for the sole reason of teaching English. I guess it depends in the area you are located at, jobs market can fluctuates. You need connection tho, or else you would just be another person in that huge pool
Mark turns ordinary food into a savory delicious video. I grew up with pho that I don't even know how to express it. Thanks sir for bringing the dish to the world!
Hey Mark! Amazing video. You’re such a good host. I’m adopted from vietnam and you really convinced me to go back. Keep the good work !!
I loved Hanoi. The vibes were amazing. The pho and the bun cha were out of this world!
Love your videos. Very calming to me, this week has being hard for me but your videos always find a way to make me feel better. 🙏💓🍲

I love Vietnamese street food i gotta try your recommendations when i visit later Thanks Mark
Thank you very much!
Wow, brilliant video of enjoying and appreciating Vietnam Pho! Make me so craving now
I am a Vietnamese and remember being in Vietnam few months ago, this bring back so many memories while in Vietnam! Good video!
There are two major beef Pho styles in Vietnam Northern style (think Ha Noi): + The original style. But can mostly be found only within Vietnam, quite rare in the South and even rarer oversea + The broth is much clearer and a bit mild compare to Southern style. Making the broth clear requires some serious techniques! + Thinner noodle + More spring onion. Less brown/white onion + Dough stick (youtiao) is a standard side dish. NO vegetable & herb side dish + Table condiments: pickle garlic, chili paste (very finely grounded chili in vinegar, mostly homemade) & fresh chili. NO hoisin. Southern style (think Sai Gon (or Ho Chi Minh city)): + The most popular style outside of Vietnam. The majority of Pho in the US & Australia are Southern style. I find Australian version of Pho is much closer to the Vietnamese version than in the US. + The broth is richer, sweeter and more cloudy + Thicker noodle + Less spring onion. More brown/white onion + NO dough stick. Generous amount of vegetable & herb side dish + Table condiments: Hoisin, chili sauce (mostly off-the-shelf product), chili oil & fresh chili Other notes: - Phở Gà (Chicken Pho) is considered to be a completely different dish: The broth is made from chicken bone (not beef), using minimal amount of anise & cinnamon, but more ginger & shallot. Results in a very clear, more aromatic but less herby broth compare to the beef Pho. Lime leaves (shredded) is a MUST and give Phở Gà its unique aroma and taste. In Vietnam, a proper Pho shop will NOT sell Beef Pho and Chicken Pho together. Chicken Pho is a Northern specialty, most owners of Chicken Pho shop in the South are Northern immigrants - Phở Thìn (@8:27) is not traditional and has its own unique style: using stir-fried beef instead of raw/cooked beef, results in a very smoky & rich, somewhat oily flavour. And yes, an insane amount of spring onion. - It's hard to believe but you won't find any Sriracha sauce (yes, that famous rooster bottle!) in any Pho shop in Vietnam. In fact, most Vietnamese do not know about its existence.
In Europe you mostly find the northern style actually.
@@jonm1124 yup you're right, I completely forgot that. Especially Eastern Europe.
@@ndkhoa2812 Germany and UK too. In France, I think you find both but the more popular ones I've been too all have "Hanoi" in the name (like Ha Noi 1988 in Paris). So I guess they have Northern style.
Sriracha is a blasphemy to legit Vietnam Pho
I am Vietnamese and I definitely love this series! Love your energy! Keep it up, man!
I love Mark and his family. Every time I watch one of his videos I have to go on DoorDash and order something new so today I am going to be eating me some pho! I love the background, the education that he brings. Thank you.
To be honest, I watch your videos whenever I'm stressed out. Food always helps. Thank you for making such amazing videos
Mark's recommendation are absolutely top notch. I went to places he recommended in Athens and it was the best food I ate in Greece. I trust in Mark :)
Thank you for the history Mark..all the bowls looked delicious👌👌
Mark Weins back in Vietnam and representing! Love pho, but you know BBH always has my heart. I'm glad to see you're back in VN, and your videos make me miss it.
Apart from the obvious and genuine enthusiasm for food, the content is so refreshing, complete with background history and method. A far cry from the usual YT suspects in VN who just seem to troll around eating and filming for their own satisfaction. Mark makes you feel he’s doing this for his audience as well as himself and it comes across. No surprise he has so many followers. I live in VN and eat phở often, but watching this genuinely made me crave a bowl. Excellent presentation and content.
Vietnam, great hardworking people. Greetings from Eastgermany! 👍🏻👋🏻
❤
Thank you for coming to the city where I live and enjoying the amazing Pho, and there are many other special dishes you shouldn't miss.
I am interested in moving to Vietnam from the states to enjoy a more peaceful way of living. Any experiences you can share living there?
Somehow Mark has managed to take it up a notch in quality once again, long live the KING! Incredible...
Yeah…. I’m very proud of my country. Thanks Mark so much to come our country to review foods
Man, pho is on another level in terms of food! Definitely one of our favourites!
Mark you definitely make us feel like we’re with you on your travels.
OMG I am waiting for this food tour in Vietnam for such a long time. I can’t wait to see your Vietnamese food review. Big fan from Vietnam 🫶🏻
Thanks for this lovely way of seeing the world. Really enjoyed it!
Had a craving for pho in the morning and made some pho, and then saw mark Wien's video. What a coincidence. How I wish I could be back in Hanoi and have a bowl of authentic pho.
I need to go back to Vietnam, I miss it so much. The foods always make me 🤤🤤🤤
Agreed. I did 19 days there this past January and it simply wasn't enough time! I will return for sure.
Сиз Vietnam ми сиз?
Wow. Glad your back in Vietnam. This gon be great
I love that you share the history behind the food. It just makes it that much better.
Can you please do a similar episode on Bun Bo Hue? This was so educational and also delicious. Pho tour in vietnam would totally be a bucket list trip for me.
Watching Mark Weins instead of the kings coronation.. lol
Mark weins helping the poor street vendors instead of wasting millions of taxpayer dollars
Same!
We all here have better taste, than watching Brits coronation of King
Long live The Mark 🫡
I'm multi-screening. Got the Coronation on in the background, but more interested in watching this Pho tour.
love this video with history built in throughout, great job Mark.

I will definitely look for these places when I go to Hanoi in 2 weeks. Thank you! Great video!
Fantastic Quality vlog. Will be visiting Hanoi shortly, hence this is handy knowledge & will definitely visit ALL the 5 places you showcased. Keep going and Thanks Mark.
Hanoi is such a great and affordable food city!
Great to see Mark traveling again.
At this point it's like watching my weekly episode. Definitely feels that way. Good work Mark!
Thank you Mark. You even provided a historical background about the food. Safe travel my friend.
Vietnam and other southeast countries has one of best dishes out there that i would eat as daily meals. It's refreshing, savory, fragrant and flavorful. Not heavy and too rich like American/chinese dishes where you get this slum feel after you eat.
This video makes me want to visit Vietnam. Thank you Mark!
Your content is top notch! Thanks for all the insight and awareness!
I was watching chopped and they were talking about Pho so I looked it up. This video popped up and I love how he explains everything so well and takes ups along on his food journey! I can almost taste it the way he describes everything so well! Love❤❤❤❤❤❤ I want this every time I’m sick!

Pho is just amazing 😍 I’ve never had chicken pho before. Awesome tour of Vietnamese pho restaurants Mark. Thank you
Thank you very much Angie!
You should definitely give it a try, chicken pho in Vietnam is true free range healthy chicken very tasty, not the foster farm stuff
Why don't they let the chicken hatch her eggs first? Seems like you would get eggs and future chickens!
Pho ga is amazing, you must try it.
