A mermaid's tail is so important and soulful in so many ways. I always end up coming back to the selkie myth - these tails are in a real way our seal skins and they give us freedom and independence and incandescent joy. So important.

Very cool. It's very interesting seeing a mermaid tail come to life from start to finish. Also, I absolutely love Chester 2.0. The texturing details are absolutely amazing and it's so nice seeing how your skills improved from rather simple/cartoony to more realistic tails over the years. Personally, I'm not a very big fan of so many fins, but I love the wavey hem/shape you gave them here, as that is usually how I draw mermaid fins too. Very nice, well done. I love this more natural looking tails, the only thing I can think that could improve them, is by putting something stiff inside the dark lines, the outer edge of the small fins somehow so that they dont collapse and kind of hold them open. I think that would be really cool. Depends on what you like ofc though. But amazing job at this

10:25 dude... To anyone who thinks digital art is easy... I literally had to relearn how to use my hand when i switched over! If you don't believe me, try to write your signature on your phone with some kind of doodling app! Youll quickly learn that it is NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS Honestly the two advantages you get are just layers and an undo button, and that only goes so far
It's okay if you don't want to answer this, but I would really appreciate it if you would. What kind of device do you use when you are using photoshop? I have been drawing my designs using Clip Studio Paint on my Samsung Galaxy tab, but I feel like it really isn't designed to handle that kind of program (everything comes out kind of grainy). Thank you so much for this video Courtney! It inspired me to keep going with tail-making; I have made one so far, but I would love to move from painting to digital rendering eventually. ❤❤
