This was a world class 50/50 that could have gone either way we had our chances and pealed off on the maul too early got held up and that sitter of a penalty had we gotten that then the last phases we could have orchestrated a drop goal. • This match was simply the greatest I have ever seen, considering: 1. the high stakes - a World Cup knockout match between the 4th ranked ABs (seemingly written off by a number of people, including NZers) vs the 1st ranked Ireland, when Ireland were on the cusp of equaling (and would undoubtedly have subsequently surpassed) the record for most consecutive matches won by an international team; 2. the retribution factor - the ABs avenging their first ever series loss to Ireland in 2022; 3. the flow of the game all throughout - the quality of tries scored by both teams, the variable offensive tactics by both teams, the solid defence by both teams and lack of TMO involvement that made it a see-saw contest to the penultimate finale; and 4. both teams gave it their all and the match truly could have gone either way, which galvanised the brilliant rivalry between these two small island nations that punch far above their weight 🖤☘️

This great solution was found, and the two try-scoring line-breaks were made by Beauden and Ritchie. Great stop by Jodie too. Smart solution. Our greatest achievement (sure, at the World Cup, as it turned out) but for many years. Massive game. The ABs 'turned up to play' in the final too. So good, as good as ever. We were a bad bounce of the ball away from beating the lads that ended up in the WC final and probably would have won if Sam Cane could tackle. • Ive thought long and hard about this.....Ireland have been void of luck at world cups. Every team that wins needs a bit of it. SA got it in the final, bounce of the ball every time went against NZ. I feel for Ireland, they are so good enough, but....wrong side of a pool, holding on to old players late in the game, a resurgent NZ....they just couldnt get that 0.5 percent luck that ya need to get going .

Rugby is more than 15 v 15, and that’s exactly why the Boks won the whole thing. No team in rugby history has emphasised that more. Every person has a part to play, and they all give 100% and have 100% trust in one another to do it.

  • Even though I’m not an ABs supporter, I rooted massively for them in this game, because of how the Irish behaved in their series win in NZ. Watching how shattered POM was after the game, I didn’t rejoice in his misery, because he was really crestfallen, but I remember thinking: “Dude, it’s tough, but you 100% deserve this.” Biggest dose of karma I’ve ever seen in sports. Though I felt sorry for some of the likable Irish players like Keith Earls, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, and a handful of others. It was an absolutely majestic game, and the margin was narrow. But in the end, the slightly better team won.
