    • I've watched this whole game more than once and yes England were very good. But I have seen the All Blacks take much bigger hidings than this and come back and win the game. It is definitely one of their strengths to let the opposition wear themselves out against them. What was odd about this game is that there were 3-4 times during the match where the All Blacks got the ball to start a counter attack and every time I've seen them like that they score but in this game they just looked like they didn't have a plan. Their counter attacks petered out very quickly and then England turned it on again. I'm really not trying to have a crack at either side here but I do think the English were not as good as their press made them out to be after that game, I feel like they got a lot of help from an All Blacks side that was unusually off it's game. With their record of success you can't really blame them for having an off-day every decade or so. I also think what happened to England a week later goes some way to supporting my point of view. Not only could they not sustain the game they had played but they didn't have the firepower up front. The Springboks had an arguably more draining game the week before. Although not as flashy it was an absolute arm wrestle. Wales' game plan was to make it as hard as possible for the Springboks to take even one step forward. And of course there is the point Rassie has stated that because of their depth he could rotate the players more and therefore had a fresher forward pack. It was an exciting game of rugby but I feel like a lot more has been made of the result than what was actually there.

      @Martin-pb7ts@Martin-pb7ts3 жыл бұрын
    • @@anglotim True. I liked how Rassie summed it up. He said that Eddie Jones had 4 years to prepare England to play the All Blacks but only 1 week to get them ready to play against the Boks. I think when coaches were calculating who they would play in the play offs they disregarded the Boks because they had been playing badly before 2019 even though their 2019 form should have sent some warning bells to other countries. I live in New Zealand and at the start of the tournament their main rugby website here rated all the teams with their winning chances. They gave the Boks a 6% chance of winning. Even going into the final the odds were heavily claimed in favour of England over here. Although the Boks had a huge support base here from All Blacks supporters who wanted to see their loss from the previous week avenged. I was really surprised after the game how happy the All Blacks supporters were that the Boks won. It was really cool.

      @Martin-pb7ts@Martin-pb7ts3 жыл бұрын
    • @@anglotim Fair enough. I think from a distance it is hard to separate the fans from the media. Just curious to know if you agree that the English were very good in the ABs win but weren't *that* good, do you also feel that the ABs had a very rare bad day? I know that you're saying you respect the Boks in a final and I appreciate that and I am not trying to diminish the English win, it was amazing. I think it is a a statement about the press and how they carry on.

      @Martin-pb7ts@Martin-pb7ts3 жыл бұрын
    • @@anglotim True and I think the loss of Sinkler in the 3rd minute really was a problem. Although the Bok scrum would probably still have been dominant I think the England scrum would have been stable for longer while he was on the field. Although the Beast looked like he was going to break anyone who got in front of him on that day. It was a very exciting match.

    • Something didn't feel right in NZ's game from the start. I felt like the players were nervous, they made so many handling errors and bad passes which I'm sure we can all say is rare coming from the All blacks... I'm looking forward to hearing more about the players' perspective on the game. Also I'm not the best analyst but it seemed to me that the AB had no gameplan a bit like England in against Wales in nations this year. In any case I'm sure the next game between these two giants won't be as one sided but will be as memorable!

    • agree(...more fun than footy..). I'm from northern England but have lived in nz for 40 years and i'd much rather watch a RU game now, since they sped the game up by changing the rules on releasing the ball in a tackle etc. Northern England has no idea, in general, about RU, it's all 80% football- 17% RL- 3% every other sport, haha. Living in nz has taught me to thoroughly understand and appreciate the modern game, though as i say, only 'cos they dragged the game out of the beer-swillin' blood and guts shitfest it used to be. Super tough athletes these guys are nowadays...bout time

    • The tackle on Jordi Barrett is the KEY moment of the match. There are over 20 minutes to play and it is a 1-score game at the time (13-7). NZ panic & try to run out of their own 22; rather than kick to touch, re-form defense and defend a line-out. Instead Eng turn over possession, (eventually) kick 3pts & it’s a 2-score game again! Lesson: NZ panicked too early; (just like v Fra in 2007).
