He spent 90 years in "suspended animation" to get to where he is now. During that time, she aged and passed away, probably a long time ago. That's what the story is about.
Mnemosyne is one of Greek gods, the Goddess of Memory. Her daughters by Zeus are the 9 muses. So the title is "Memory Rising" So it's a reference to his memories of Earth.
Cool will try to remember that 🛸
I have to admit I'm fascinated with all the props and background items! I recognize so many of them! Things that were discarded years ago that I've had and used AND still have some of them!
In fact, working with props saved this short film)
This is why they do psych evaluations of astronaut candidates before sending them into space.
That's funny stuff lol frfr you're right😂
they should use prisoners... they're toughened enough... spend some time training and then ''out you go''... make it through and you're free and being paid...
When you're alone long enough, most memories gets faded, noise disappear and reality becomes irrelevant. You'll hold on to those few memories when you felt loved and nothing else matters.
I don't understand why so many nasty comments. The blue planet is called Mnemosine not by chance. I found this brilliant, good acting and very good scenography, very suggestive. Well done
I went through the comments and I only seen one so I don't know where you get all this negativity from maybe it's just the way you see things😅😅😅
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't keep.
What nasty comments? ☺️
@@SoonGone right, that's what I was saying🙂
No one said anything bad. You're clickbait
Love the contrast. Space travel, sleep capsule, analog controls/interface.
Great set...it's a character in itself
This channel is AWESOME. Love it
I'm guessing my classical education is why I thoroughly enjoyed this understated bit of goodness.
In greek mythology, mnemosyne , often confused with mneme, was the personificatión of memory. 👽
I love this video. A thoughtful science fiction presentation of the space between the ears. The props are wonderful. It looks like the old equipment you might find at an Amateur Radio Flea Market. Great job Miguel Alvarez.
Open mind people. Keep your minds open to all possibilities and eventualities and nothing will disappoint 😊
KZhead sent this fascinating short film to me for a second look. It has nudged my perspective of the film to a happier perspective. It looks like Mnemosine Is helping the man to go back to his woman even though it would normally be too late after 100 years or more have passed. But when you’re in Outer Space, anything can happen.
My only complaint, this isn't a full length movie.
Outta this world art direction and plot 👏
I would like to pay tribute to this work for its consistent retro-sci-fi atmosphere, the presence of a large number of specially made props and a beautiful message about man’s craving for space, both real and metaphorical. Yes, the short film is minimalistic, but everything in it is done to perfection, and it seems to me that this is just a great example to follow. I don't regret watching this👍
The art deco was so fantastic! Kept me interested!
I love Sci Fi and I don't know what this was trying to tell me. A guy went to deep space and keeps remembering the woman he left behind. OK. Then what? Does he want to be here? What's the pay off? Did he promise her something? Is he going crazy? Will he return to her? This doesn't have any cohesion.
Not meant to!
@patcummins6036 Thats a poor excuse.
@johnm8693 the ending is that he dies to be with his dead girlfriend who died in the 90 years it took him to reach that spot in space
Ok class. What lesson did we learn today? Don't go cheap on the VR Goggles when you go on a deep space voyage. That's correct. Always use the latest wireless ones, not the cobbled together ones using vacuum tubes from early television sets.
🤣
Steampunk staging is effective as a space ship. I thought it well done, engaging actors. Considering the various production constraints, an excellent creation. 💫💫💫💫💫
This was a fantastic short film. Excellent set and premise with superb acting.
Mad max in outer space?
Well done, excellent movie. Wonderful acting. Congratulations!
Nice movie! Gives me the vibe of Solaris!
nice retro sci fi elements
Thanks!
Great set
Gimme more sci fi drugs plz ! I love them
Yup!! We never leave....(on a deep thought))
Really good... ☝️😎
Ok im not the Brightest Crayon in the Box but im correct in assuming ole boy is clearly hallucinating and is having a manic depression episode right?
No! It took him 90 years to reach that blue planet! So the woman he loved is dead now, so he don’t see no reason for him to go back. Cause all he have is memories that he’s recapturing with the headsets
Another person commented about the psyche of the astronaut. People were meant to be with people no matter what the psych eval says. A person might go crazy by themselves, but wouldn't it be nice if the astronauts had their wives with them and/ or if they were 90 years out and their family would be in cryo on Earth until they get back. That way, their family would not be dead when they get back. In addition to that, the astronaut could still have a wife who's also an astronaut with him. Critical, logical thinking is the key to the mystery.
Like when Buck Rogers meets steam punk..... Didn't like it first time. Had a spliff then I enjoyed it. 🇬🇧😁😁🤜
Loved it ! Hoping a sequel as to him explain and yes make it back to that beach to meet her. But the things it takes to make it back tho he says never leave he's still on board that we'll rather pretty cool ship ! :) Well done..
She is already dead. He says it himself that it takes 90 years to get where he is at in space
Very very nice.
Somebody is an electronics expert
Very nice. I would have enjoyed the rescue flight, but I get the point.
This was well done, but the title was never explained
In greek mythology, mnemosyne , often confused with mneme, was the personificatión of memory This is from someone else's comment.
584 👍's up DUST thank you for sharing 😅
Reminds me of solaris. Pretty good.
The most frequent problem with Dust films is writing a meaningful plot.
I think I agree! Many times, after the end, I am thinking: and now what? But precisely THIS one has a meaningful plot, to me. He decides to leave the oportunity to return to Earth.
Oh... Memory... Thank you comments 😊

They're showing the further technology, Your Faces on other person bodies. You can be Angel or Monster every where Here. DUST's beyond Technology 👽
This short came out in 2010 --?? Is there a behind the scenes making of the film --??
This has echoes of the Russian science fiction classic “Solaris”.
Good movie. Mnemosyne is alive and tries to seduce the miner by using his memories. She uses EM interference and his memories to keep him from sending her coordinates. She doesn't want to be mined to death. The crab in the sand indicates that the life is hidden. She realizes that the meteor strike has rendered her efforts moot
90 years and the love. So he does not want nor need earth. Is that another 90 back?
Meteor showers don't sneak up on you.
👍
Why does it say "posted 11 days ago" when I've watched this almost 2 years ago?
Interesting and important. Mnemosyne...how far away is that? Is it related to finding Nemo?
There's an ancient Maori love story, Hinemoa and Tūtānekai, Lake Rotorua, New Zealand, maybe a line to "King" Tut. Does this guy Castille or Castillo have ancestry to that? He seems to call the guy on the radio both Jordan and Jorgens.
I didn't find the story interesting, but I like it for having subtitles in Spanish.
No reason to go back to movie theaters
Huh?
I did enjoy it but this short could of been much shorter, too slow for me even for a short
So, we are now an advanced civilization, mining far away moons and we've invented spaceships with artificial gravity ! Then how come he's using a computer from the 1990s which by the way is using an even older phosphor vacuume tube for it's display (a vallve). Sorry but I can't suspend reality to accept this !
galactic steam punk
kinda light ....
Not bad.
Nice doggy!
No one would leave their lover for a 90-year, one way trip. She died before he left or he wishes that she had not left him before he left earth... Why would he promise to be back? Space drunk fantasies.
Sadly another uninspiring version on a theme of someone in a 🚀 spaceship going a bit wacky 🤪
WTF😱 because you never leave,💣💔. 🌅🍸🍸🥵🍶🐲
turn on subtitles in Russian , it doesn 't work on many videos, greetings from Russia 👋😎
You should just study English
Because anyone can learn English, it'so easy and international, and after you didd, you can easily understand most of the content on the internet. Try it out.
Looking at the thumbnails, has anyone else noticed the distinct lack of the " clasic lead" for movies? Its obvious because the quality of short movies on this channel has dramatically dropped in the last 3 years
If only they did psychological evaluations on people before they could have children … we wouldn’t be living in such a shit world …
But what does that have to do with this video?
Another lone male in space dreaming of leaving behind a lover of his own decision. no character empathy. great acting, great set. poor story
Don’t wast your time posting long meaningfully thought provoking posts on this channel 🤦🏻♀️ . The A.I.Censorship ALGORITHMS are targeting you . Critical thinking and emotional intelligence are a dangerous combination that MUST BE CRUSHED . Iv just had a post removed .
And yet I can read this one. Gotta say tho, that some of my posts also disappear for reasons I can not understand... not that anyone gives me a reason.
👎
the movie kinda sucked.
You just don’t understand
Maybe it was meant to?
@@TheEtbetween - Right. That must be it. The job was to tell a story. Sure seems like a fail to me.
Yeeeeeah, depressing and pointless. Don't need it.
waste of time
Repeat. Gloom and doom.... 👎👎👎
