As the lone crew member of an exploration ship, Castillo travels to distant planets scouting promising mining sites. Once a location is found, he must call in the coordinates back to Jorgens, the cranky veteran who’s gruff voice serves as Castillo’s only human contact. • He spent 90 years in "suspended animation" to get to where he is now. During that time, she aged and passed away, probably a long time ago. That's what the story is about.

  • Mnemosyne is one of Greek gods, the Goddess of Memory. Her daughters by Zeus are the 9 muses. So the title is "Memory Rising" So it's a reference to his memories of Earth.

  • KZhead sent this fascinating short film to me for a second look. It has nudged my perspective of the film to a happier perspective. It looks like Mnemosine Is helping the man to go back to his woman even though it would normally be too late after 100 years or more have passed. But when you’re in Outer Space, anything can happen.

  • I would like to pay tribute to this work for its consistent retro-sci-fi atmosphere, the presence of a large number of specially made props and a beautiful message about man’s craving for space, both real and metaphorical. Yes, the short film is minimalistic, but everything in it is done to perfection, and it seems to me that this is just a great example to follow. I don't regret watching this👍

  • I love Sci Fi and I don't know what this was trying to tell me. A guy went to deep space and keeps remembering the woman he left behind. OK. Then what? Does he want to be here? What's the pay off? Did he promise her something? Is he going crazy? Will he return to her? This doesn't have any cohesion.

    • Another person commented about the psyche of the astronaut. People were meant to be with people no matter what the psych eval says. A person might go crazy by themselves, but wouldn't it be nice if the astronauts had their wives with them and/ or if they were 90 years out and their family would be in cryo on Earth until they get back. That way, their family would not be dead when they get back. In addition to that, the astronaut could still have a wife who's also an astronaut with him. Critical, logical thinking is the key to the mystery.

She doesn't want to be mined to death. The crab in the sand indicates that the life is hidden. She realizes that the meteor strike has rendered her efforts moot
