  • As a man over 30, I wear whatever I want, because I'm an adult that can decide for himself. And the only person that really needs to be happy with it, is myself.

    • @@Melitulf KZhead recommend me this video for some random reason. I watched it out of curiosity. And I'm ok with people advising others with what goes better, or what type of clothes are better, etc. I just felt this video was wrong, because she's almost saying it's a crime using somethings, and I fear some people might end up thinking that they have a problem because they don't conform to some arbitrary norms, when each of us is unique, and first of all should be happy with themselves.

    • Seriously!! I have a buddy that is married to a broad like this and he is never very happy. He can never live up to her standards, and we see it wear him down. Frankly it's sad.. he'd be happier living his own life instead of trying to make her happy. This girl will never be happy. She'll try and control her guy because he won't ever reach her standards. Her latest entry, which had dozens of women supporting her in the replies, was talking about how she had recently started dating a guy who exclusively wore knee-high white socks. Early 30s, skater guy and in Southern California. He would literally never be caught dead wearing any other type of socks, which she should’ve known and understood. Literally the second day she went to his apartment she went into his bedroom while he was napping on the couch, raided his sock drawers, threw away all his white over the calf tube and over the calf crew socks and replaced them with… black ankle socks. So, literal theft and attempted destruction of private property. The girl was absolutely shocked that the guy made her go pick the garbage bags of his socks out of the dumpster, throw away all the black ankle socks she replaced them with and then dumped her. Truly one of the most insane things I have ever read, and again, she got nothing but support on her blog.

I am regularly guilty of this. Looking at these comments I'm kind of struck by how delicate men are about having a woman critique their fashion, and not nearly as hard as men and women critique women's fashion. Nothing she said was even controversial.

    • @@justcommenting4981that’s not because of a lack of concern for the thoughts of others. That’s a matter of taste. If you don’t care what others think of you and end up wearing a graphic tee with cargo shorts, that’s an issue with the wearer’s taste in clothing. The idea stands to wear what you want, but there’s a time and place for every outfit. Shorts are good in summer. I will not take this woman’s advice, and I will still look good because I know how to dress myself.

He exclusively wore white over the calf tube socks pulled up to his knees, even with shorts. (Like me.) Late 20s skater, and they lived in Southern California. Meaning, he would literally die before he wore any other type of socks. Well, the second time she went over his apartment he took a nap on the couch, and she entered his bedroom while he was out. She raided all of his sock drawers, bagged up his big white tube socks, replaced them with a couple packs of black ankle socks she had bought him the night before And threw the bags of his existing socks in the dumpster behind his building. So, literal theft and attempted destruction of private property. When he woke up and she told him to go look in his dresser, he immediately flew off the handle. He made her go get his socks out of the dumpster, threw away the black ankle socks in front of her and immediately dumped her. She was absolutely flabbergasted that he reacted negatively. And, this is the horrifying part, there were literally hundreds of women commenting under the post and they all supported her and said that he was a derelict. It remains the most batshit insane thing I’ve ever seen someone post in earnest.

(The socks worn “upside down” with the red Hanes logos on the tops of my feet, of course.) While I was waiting at the meat counter some Karen fashionista walked up behind me and immediately started making noises and making catty comments about my socks. The more I ignored her the madder she got, and she ended up talking about the footprint stains on the bottoms of my socks, which were exposed because I was wearing slides. Other shoppers overheard this as they walked by, and looked at her like she was from another planet. By the time I got my meat I was so pissed, but the guy behind the counter gave me a reassuring look. I turned around and said, “these socks are exactly what your husband would wear if you weren’t such a soul sucking b**** who runs every aspect of his existence”. I walked off, and she was too stunned to say anything else. She was so ridiculous that I was going to have security remove her from the store if she followed me.

You mentioned people close to us trying to dictate what we wear. To this day, my mother tries to get me to throw away all my white over the calf tube socks and start wearing black no-show socks with shorts and black crew socks with pants. She even went as far as buying me a 12 pack of black no-show socks and a 12 pack of black crew socks for Christmas this past year. I had Christmas at my place, and when I opened the package she even specified that she threw the receipt away, and thus they couldn’t be returned. I got up, walked into the kitchen and threw them away in front of her.
