  • I see a lot of comments and it seems a lot of people don't understand this song. I'm more of a conservative than liberal but this song is symbolizing what black people are fed with all the time and what the mentality of an average black person is. We are told always that we are either minority, oppressed or less than and always a target. I personally don't subscribe to that and I haven't experienced first hand being a victim or a target by the system or by racism on a high level even tho we are at times! There are black people who become victims to the system like for example mass incarceration for minor offenses and longer sentences for similar crimes than their white counterpart. This is basically saying walk a mile in a black person's shoes and understand. The better we understand each other, the better we can do in bridging the gap between us. Remember Tom grew up around black people so he saw this first hand!

    @Coachkingrod@Coachkingrod3 жыл бұрын
    • I 100% agree with you man. I lie in the middle of politics but I can't stand seeing woke liberals telling black people they are oppressed, or calling black conservatives traitors. It's all bs and seems so intolerant. Why are we teaching black kids they will never be as successful as white people? They will never have motivation to become someone great and successful. Or teaching white kids they need to feel ashamed? It's like people seem to think black people all have to think the same way, like why not treat black people like everyone else and accept their opinions like anyone else and let them vote/think however they want? I don't get it. We live in a backwards world where race is everything. We shouldn't let race matter at all and unite as people. Everyone's so divided and I feel like people can learn alot from people like you.

    • It's funny how this is one of the top comments but barely any likes, shows that most of Tom's fans only like the right leaning side of him instead of all of his message which is about the FACTS on BOTH sides.

    • Or it's a song made by a Canadian that didn't have any intentions of this left/right bs that you talk about, and he's just showing a satirical view of how certain people view the world.

    • @@katmertov5965 Normally I don't comment, but I saw yours and felt obligated. Im mostly center as far as politics goes, I agree a fair amount with both sides..the problem is once sides are picked people dig in and almost brings out some sort or tribal instinct in us to hate the other side.. but in my experience and relating to your comment we are all much better off loosening up a bit and trying to understand each others points of view and how we can achieve both "sides" goals with a little effort to further understand each other. I liked Toms video and I subscribed a while ago, but generally don't do anything in the comments as I stated above so I guess I wrote this to tell you im sure there are large numbers of people who feel the same way we do that just dont comment or like anything down here. *Edit: To add to that, in today's political climate lots of people on the "Right" side of the isle are angry about censorship(rightfully so imo) and Tom constantly rails against censorship and the forming of the media narrative against all of us citizens, so there's bound to be an influx of more right leaning individuals especially since Fox News did a whole segment and interview with Tom after Fake Woke came out.

      @lupo1237@lupo12373 жыл бұрын
    • @@katmertov5965 It barely has any likes because the OP is 3 days old whereas the video is over a year old (July 19th 2019). To derive a swooping statement like that about the nature of his fans without factoring in time is misleading. If a comment is up longer it will gather more likes.

  • What Tom is showing is that, if he were black, it would be very difficult to not be bitter about the past, present and bleak future of black people in America unless real change occurs. In a brilliant way, Tom demonstrates empathy for the black panther mindset, the mindset of a person who feels like a hopeless and oppressed victim and is hellbent on fighting back by any means necessary before being a statistic. Nevertheless, its important for black people to rise above that victim mentality, otherwise, you will remain a tool of the powers that be which love to use race as a tool to divide. We are free, you aren't a victim, its not hopeless, you have agency and nothing can stop you but you. Aim for greatness, settle for nothing less, just like those who've come before you - even like former slaves like Booker T. Washington (a person whose history some leftist want to paint as fiction - he's a victim who didn't let his past determine his future).

  • What I'm about to say is meant as a compliment, in no way am I suggesting that this video is anything other than what he intended it to be.... Having recently discovered Tom, I've made it through probably about 90 plus percent of his tunes. And I've noticed something, and it stuck out to me but it never says it in any video: So he's not only making the songs that project and amplify what he stands for and/or believes in.... He also writes songs that address the dichotomy, meaning from the opposite point of view, a more colloquial terms, he addresses his own stuff from the point of view of a "hater".... As I was first listening, I would become curious about different aspects of his message, and usually within 3 to 5 songs later, I find a song that answers that question LOL.... So here's the big point, propaganda works very similar to what he's doing here. Good propaganda created by good propagandists does not merely just put their message out there, they also put out a subset of the extreme version of their message.... (Which makes the main narrative sound like more of a compromise) Then, unhinged, voices with no nuance and usually of a lower intellect with previously noted extremist views are artificially propped up by the very same people putting out the opposite message. They do this to ensure that the RATIONAL FREE THINKERS are suppressed and lost within all the noise. This basically ensures that the average Joe never hears nuanced, middle path, across the board common Sense solutions to the very problems the people created that are offering the solutions. This ensures that the idiot-average-Joe sees the insanity of some guy screaming about reptiles or people from Israel or pizzas.... It will be an immediate deterrent from even going down that road. However the extremely use will contain a percentage of Truth, and once it is determined that that part of the truth is associated with the crazy people, it automatically shuts down any conversation with people who actually dig deep and provide real unbiased information because of the inconvenience that crazy people are also raising hell about that matter.... What I'm saying is, his music kind of works like that. He has built a spider web of cultural structure that is three-dimensional where he's looking in on himself and then back at itself in every direction. He's basically shutting down haters preemptively. Also instead of suppressing the dark Truth, he puts his own flaws and negative attributes out ahead of anyone who may attempt to dox him or call him out. He's built a very strong perimeter wall around his art. Just remember, if you don't understand how the mainstream narratives and propaganda work, listen to all these songs and then change the subject from Tom McDonald to whatever subject it is you're wondering about...

Today as I was sitting at my desk talking to my black female friend just about life and growing up. And I said have to say my life isn't perfect but my life is good. And as I was explaining to her the reason a lot of people lives are fucked up because they just don't listen. And the blacks that enjoy this video, I feel sorry for you. Since T Mick has the black ear he need to tell them they need to spend their money with each other instead of making excuses not to.

    • The people in power often endorse the fighting between us, the people of America. The people in power love Black Lives Matter, Antifa, the Proud Boys, Neo Nazis, the KKK.... because all these groups have one thing in common.... they divide us into different groups so that the American people that the Constitution famously refers to as ‘We the People’ will be easy to divide and conquer. I hate it. This is not what America is about. America is about freedom and liberty to all, to pursue their dreams through hard work, strife, and helping others accomplish their goals as well. The black community is a shell of what it once was. If you haven’t heard of ‘Black Wall Street,’ look it up. It’s proof that it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, you can be very successful in America. Look up Thomas Sowell while you’re at it. He was a great role model for anyone. I wish that the black community would have embraced his values instead of the gangster values that has lead to some of the problems felt in today’s culture. I wish that the white community would have embraced Milton Friedman instead of the Donald Trump culture that we have today.

Soo, it's not right for people to assume all people act and think with their skin color. Leading to, it's not right to think that all white ppl are racist, "privileged", and would like to marry their cousin. Just my thoughts. This shit doesn't help us as a nation, and looking at his other songs - he seems to be a grievance artist, highlighting why each group is mad at each other, and just making everyone more tribal - which I don't think is his intention, its nevertheless the result imo. There's only two groups in the America, the rich and the poor - all that other shit is artificial.

    • @@savvyboy7581 I guess I interpreted the song this way is because of his song Whiteboy. He and some white people in general are told that they have "white privilege" and feed into/benefit from systemic racism, "responsible for slavery bc of your ancestors" and other widely pushed narratives that are simply... divisive. It's painting white people with a broad brush, that they all are evil people. Sort of speak. So, again, minorities painting white people w/ broad brush. This song -> Tom (White Man) brushing black people w/ broad brush. Obviously, both are hurtful, but ehh.. it sparks controversy and a conversation.

  • For anyone who wasn't sure about the context of this song, this song is sympathising with a particular opinion that is produced due to a perspective, but it is not outright agreeing with it as fact. Allow me to discuss the lyrics "They gave us HIV and crack". HIV: Between 1932 and 1972 there was a medical study performed upon African Americans, called the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, which wanted to know the affects of untreated syphilis. It was an unethical study as the patients were not informed about their condition, were lied to, and when treatment became available they refused to treat them so that they could continue the study. This effectively ruined African American's trust for America and the public health service. Due to this distrust, it manifested into conspiracy theories and assumptions about HIV. Some theories include that only gay men can catch syphilis, syphilis can be spread on door handles, syphilis is not a disease at all; however due to the mistrust and also the fact that black people were more likely to contract it than white people (based on multiple factors) one popular theory was that HIV was given to black people on purpose by the CIA to try and attempt genocide. To this day some people still believe this. Crack: Between the 1980's and 1990's there was a crack cocaine epidemic. Cocaine was getting from Columbia to America and was being distributed heavily due to its purity and cost. This resulted in a sudden increase in deaths related to crack cocaine. At the time there was a revolution happening in Nicaraguan. The Contras, an American funded rebel group, took part in this revolution. It was alleged that Contras played a part in the trafficking of cocaine into America, and that the CIA allowed and supported it. With the black communities' distrust caused from the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, the rumour was believed to be true and spread fast - it also didn't help that the CIA and American government were trying to cover this up to prevent backlash that might occur on the revolution. After multiple investigations it was determined that Contras did not play a part in drug trafficking in America, it was individuals within Contras who were taking advantage of the situation. (However, the resulting war on drugs caused by the cocaine epidemic was questionable, as it mostly targeted brown and black people as it gave harsher sentences for crack cocaine, whilst powdered cocaine had lighter sentences. The war on drugs also didn't provide treatment for addicts). So point being, if you believe that the American government was intentionally giving people HIV and was funding for drug trafficking to occur in America, then to not trust and to hate the government and white people is justifiable - and if Tom was black and this is what he was taught, then he too likely would have agreed.
