Dan Castellaneta On Voicing Homer Simpson | Late Night with Conan O’Brien

“In my day, we didn’t have talk shows! We sat around and listened to noises!” Absolutely my favorite Grandpa Simpson quote.
the scene that always makes me bust out laughing is when bart is the host for the burlesque house and grandpa simpson walks in, puts his hat on the rack, sees bart, turns around, picks his hat off and walks out. Then he opens the door and asks "is your name Bart?"
For me it was when the dog had an operation and was wearing that large cone to keep it from biting the stitches, and was walking through the living room with its back legs in a little wheeled cart and Grandpa said "Hey! The lamp's runnin' away..."
Better if he said "oh, hello Jay Leeno... I watch all your shows!!" :x

Voice acting isn’t given enough credit. This man is beyond talented. Having the ability to not only to invent the character’s (now iconic) voice, but to build and maintain it over decades. Dan Castellaneta is an absolute legend and always will be.
With a net worth of 85 million i think he has enough credit ! :)
The fact that NONE of his voices sound like the other ones is what impresses me the most. Except of course for the ones that are supposed to sound similar.
Very few have reached that level - Mel Blanc and Daws Butler are two.
@@joeyb4ever I remember watching a video about Hank Azaria talking about Mel Blanc doing a character voice while impersonating another one of his characters. Like when Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are impersonating each other.
@@peterc2373 I think he was referring to the general public's recognition of voice talent with "credit", not how much the actors are paid. Either way, Castellaneta has been MORE than worth every penny...

It's gotta be pretty dope to be an iconic star like this but still be able to go out and about in your daily life and not get bothered by people all the time as a voice actor.
and then when the time is right just bust out the voice in front of strangers
What's most impressive, I think, is how wildly varied Dan Castellaneta's vocal range is. Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, and Nancy Cartwright all do tons of different characters too, and they're also immensely talented, but if you listen close, you can pick out a little trace of their own natural voice in a lot of their characters. With Dan, none of his voices sound anything alike. It's like he's got twenty other people just living inside of him 😆
Dan Castallaneta regular voice sounds like Mayor Quimby and Harry Shearer regular voice sounds like Principal Skinner or Reverend Lovejoy but I don't know who Hank Azaria regular voice sounds like from the characters he voices.
@@snakeeyes2551 I'd say Hank Azaria's natural voice is closest to Moe.
I don’t know man, Azaria’s range of voices is crazy.
And no disrespect to Yeardley Smith, but I think she is the least talented of the Simpsons cast, because she only does one voice and it’s Lisa. Her normal voice sounds almost exactly like Lisa.
@@kgunitkeese17 I would say that Smith’s normal voice is a low-pitched rendition of Lisa’s voice, since Lisa has a high-pitched, nasal-like voice.
He's a genius; most people would struggle to come up with one well rounded character and has a whole handful. A special talent.
Not a genius at all but a natural It’s an art
Thanks for making me feel like a non genius
Nancy Cartwright does the voice of Bart, Nelson, Todd Flanders, Ralph och Kearney, it's like two people making all the voices from simpsons. And Seth MacFarlane does the voices of Peter Griffin, Stewie, Brian and Glenn Quagmire in Family guy, i guess it's pretty common to do many voices if you work in this business.
Accents, singing and singing with accents as well! Underrated genius actually.
If anything, Mel Blanc was a genius. I'm sure Dan would agree.

Imagine voicing the most famous tv characters in the history of the world. Probably never recognized at an airport unless he uses his Homer voice.
They probably know him by now, though if he put a hat 🧢 on and some glasses he may not be recognized? 🤔
Not being recognized is a blessing for him. Poor man wouldn't be able to go anywhere without hundreds of people hounding him to do voices.
You mean Mario, Pikachu, or Mickey Mouse, then.
He's been in dozens of movies and TV episodes. I'm sure he gets recognized plenty.
@@Vulpas no definitely not.
Look at how he subtly transforms himself for each voice. The position of his head and neck, the shape of his mouth, even the look in his eyes changes with each different voice. It’s small, but it probably helps his mindset for each character.

@@zmattchiasson that implies it's not difficult because it's written. All of the voice actors on The Simpsons are national treasures and when they shuffle off the mortal coil, something huge will be lost forever.
Here in Italy American producer wanted very identical voices like yours, even Bart is performed by a woman. Our Homer had a huge success, his voice only to be lower Than dan's, and when he passed away in 2013 the following dubber was skilled but it wasn't the same since them. Hope terrific Dan will live and work for a long time.
but, we’ll still have all of the episodes
