What I love about this scene is the way how they illustrate who is the most skilled. They didn't show arthur floating around in a goofy stance. Nor was he being clumsy in the movements. He held his own pretty well all things considered. Orm was the most skill in underwater combat. He train a lifetime in the ocean. NO comedy, no witty banter, just a proper duel scene.
I wonder if he gets stronger for the next movie tho , Black Manta definitely has to get stronger to go against Aquaman with the trident
What's wrong with comedy? If used correctly and with proper timing, it's hardly a bad thing. Never got the desire for everything to be so dark and dour.
@@sammalone7881not everything needs to be comedic though, otherwise you end up with a movie that people aren't going to take seriously, or in the case of recurring characters you end up destroying their consistency like in Thor Ragnarok.

Have witty banter if you want but don't forget that its a figh to the death or a fight for survival. That is what I prefer. If my attention is required for a fight scene. Then have a want for it. A desire for it. Meet me half way and we both go home happy.

That way that they talked in water is absolutely unique and those sonic boom when some overpowered character attacked each other is simply amazing done by every dc movies
It worked best here tho. It didn't make much sense in the other uses, but it blends perfectly here.
Why wasn't he this fast and strong in justice league .....here they're basically superman when theyre underwater

The CGI was better in Man of Steel. A film thats 6 years older. Im truly dissatisfied with DC right now.
Notice the attention to detail. They’re pretty much evenly matched in the beginning, when there’s footing. As soon as they shift to the water, Aquaman gets outclassed.
Orm almost got thrown into the lava. Outclassed is an exaggeration.

@@aminazman9311 Pretty sure Arthur has killed about 10 people by this point. I'm counting the pirates at the beginning, unless I missed something about them being apprehended before the submarine sank. Also he definitely killed some Atlantian soldiers during that sunken ship fight.

I mean I feel a tinge of sympathy for Orm in this regard. His mom pretty much cheated on her husband and abandoned her kingdom to go on a fling. So ya to a degree I can see why the dude is bitter about his mom when learning about that.

Critics are always against anything outside the MCU. They want this movie to find Atlantis, and be filmed inside it. Even if God allowed them to do so, they will still complain. If some of them enjoyed Last Jedi, what can you expect from them?
critics and viewers appreciate practical effects more than an abundance of CGI. And whatever your think of the fight, you can’t deny a lot more could of been done practically here instead of CGI fighting again like in Black Panther.

Because it's like this once you open the gates the floods start. The day a comic day movie get a Oscar for special effects it's basically over for all other movie genres. Comic book movies gonna have the best cgi in the business because of the material comics produce and the simple fact you need the best cgi you can to produce some of the comics. Best effects gonna be a staple for comic movies very soon mite not get a best movie Oscar for a comic but I believe very soon a Oscar for best effects/cgi will be a staple for comic movies.

There are definitely a few candidates for the best fights from DCEU movies now with most DC movies having atleast one worthy candidate. The Zod vs Superman fight in Man of Steel, the warehouse scene in Batman vs Superman, The Ring of Fire in Aquaman, The No Man's Land Scene from Wonder Woman, the final brawl in Birds of Prey, the hilarious fight chase with Dr. Silvana in Shazam. Honestly the only DCEU movie that did not have a memorable action scene (at least in my opinion) was Suicide Squad.

I just realized that Orm's armor is based off of the Retiarius armor. The Retiarius is an old Roman gladiator that commonly fight with tridents and nets and wore a full armor sleeve on one arm for defending, and a half cover sleeve for more flexibility for fighting. The little details like this is why I like these movies.

What I just noticed in this scene is that orm is striking atlana’s trident in the same spot a whole lot throughout the battle and it finally broke when he stuck it the same way again at the end

That's because Disney is very hard at work buying the entire market. Nothing but their movies still get any critical praise, proving where those critics stand. Also, the DCEU doesn't seem to care much about crazy political ideologies (with the exception of Suicide Squad, which is easily the most trash movie they have), and so again, despite being loved by audiences for it, they get assaulted over it by critics. Too much criticism = no awards.

Hands down, Aqua Man has some of the best fight scenes I've seen in any super hero movie. The story was okay, but just the little shots that are added to compliment the action are fucking beautiful. Critics on youtube have failed to identify this films biggest strengths. This is the best looking movie I've seen in years.

But if the movie is opening in December the studio still has to submit the movie to the academy. It's how Spiderverse, and MPR got in but Aquaman didn't. WB Didn't submit the movie on time.

Example, Academy Awards 2019 nominates movies from 2018 only (no late 2017 or early 2019 movies). Also, Spider-Verse and Mary Poppins Returns were released in December 2018 and earlier than Aquaman in the same month. Spider-Verse and Mary Poppins Returns got nominated while Aquaman has none. This is clearly a snub and even James Wan criticised this.
DCEU fight scenes always give me the sense of two very hard, very aggressive insects whizzing round and slapping into each other.
