    • Reporting truth is nowedays so important. Quality is just a flavor...

      @Triggernlfrl@Triggernlfrl Жыл бұрын
    • @@Triggernlfrl You're missing the point. "Truth" isn't some clear-cut easy-to-obtain thing that is only hindered by bad faith or something. It takes interpretation, first of all. And as per DShady45's point, it takes a long time and lots of resources to get to the bottom of complex issues. If you condemn somebody based on rumors or similar vague things, you'll often condemn people wrongly. Things like integrity, transparent methodology, fair perspectivation etc. are part of high quality reporting.

    • @@ReubenXR 1. Are you sure you're not mistaking him for "Coffee Break", who posted a hit piece of Kurzgesagt which was then later redacted? 2. I don't trust Kurzgesagt that much either. Primarily because I'm still not convinced he has sufficient scientific training (highschool dropout inspired to make sci-edu videos) to understand what it takes to be accurate and as nuanced as many peer-reviewed published scientists. I think their channel focuses _way_ too much on the "approachable" aspect of science education, and sacrifice accuracy, and I'd strongly prefer it the other way around. I especially had that impression when reading Phillp's book "Immune", and I was hoping for the opposite.

    • That’s kinda the issue/draw with crypto. It’s a commodity that originally was touted for its decentralized and unregulated value. It sounds good on paper, but the issue with it is that _you get no protection if it’s value drops_ because it’s not guaranteed by any financial sector or government to retain its value. The only one that generally will give you a guarantee of their value are people within that coin’s ecosystem, which unsurprisingly does not matter if one or more actor inside is fraudulent. By “investing” your money in crypto, initially that meant buying into the promise that the currency would have value not tied to the US Dollar, or any nation’s currency, and that rather than being able to cash out for regulated currency at the end of a transaction, users could purchase services and goods directly. Asking for regulation for crypto, for people to be held accountable for insider trading, assumes that the government has a stake in propping up essentially the sale and value of Beanie Babies, or collectible cards. Again, it sounds good on paper, that this insider trading would be illegal. But it’s not real money. It’s valued at whatever the company you bought it from says it’s valued.

  • Well damn, that really sucks for the people who invested. I honestly had no idea he was supposedly on the up and up, so this story feels like I'm picking a book up where I left off. Unfortunately this, from my perspective, is very on brand for him. I feel bad for the people who got totally played by him. It's fucked up that he's choosing to steal from the people who saw the best in him, and gave him a second chance. He's really out here just stealing candy from babies. I hope he actually has to face legal ramifications for this.

    @PumpkinSpikey@PumpkinSpikey Жыл бұрын
    • Honestly, I dont know why would you want to invest in the first place. I think im missing a part of the puzzle, maybe you can explain it to me. Why would the end-tier (audiences, gamers) buy that stuff in the first place? It's not actually a game, for all I can see, it's just, at best, an nft scheme, and at worst, a ponzi scheme. Do they join because there's something attractive other than trying to make money? Because if the only reason you join, as end-tier, is to make money, that doesnt sound like a game to me. It sound like you're looking for a way to get someone else's money, in EXACTLY the same way the top tier did it. I just dont get it, so I cannot have sympathy for the "players". Am i missing something?

    • @@mauroylospichiruchis544 One of those affected said something like, "If you choose to get into NFTs (and crypto) you know that in order for someone to win, someone else has to lose. It was a risk I knew I was taking, I just didn't foresee losing like this." As advertised, it's not the typical 'pay for picture, sell same picture for profit', it's more like investing in crypto and "letting it grow". And you're supposedly able to tend to the value of your investment through the gaming model, which I doubt many people cared about but I guess it makes something mundane slightly more exciting. The players are viewing this like any other crypto investment - gambling for the biggest share of the pie they can get. However, that is not the exact same way Jake and friends did it, because they had a secret sale for themselves that was much cheaper and, unless I'm mistaken, they have the ability to cash their money out unlike the players. Whether you agree with crypto and NFTs or not, what Jake did was a scam and the players in this situation see themselves as similar to any other gambler. In any casino, the jackpot is comprised of money people lost. In this casino, there is no real jackpot and everyone has their money stuck in the machine. The crypto zoo game is just about as exciting as any penny slot game too, now that I think of it. I think NFTs and crypto suck big time, especially NFTs, but many of the people who get into this stuff are average people believing in the fantasy that they can actually win.

    • @@mauroylospichiruchis544 I have no clue. I have no interest in putting my money into any crypto stuff.
