Hi Luke & James. Thank you. This was a particularly interesting episode. If you ask me, I fully agree with your Dad’s and your wife’s views about the royal family. On top of that, I’m inclined to think that the most positive feature of the Crown is to provide stability, continuity and a strong sense of belonging to a nation whose traditions go back centuries. And so far the system has proved to work, hasn’t it? If you believe that my opinion is somewhat conservative, yes, it is. 🙂 The episode ended on a sad note, but I understand that’s part of reality which no one can escape. When the day of Operation London Bridge comes, I share your view that it will be a complete shock to the whole world, a day of profound grief all over.

The Monarchy in UK looks like a great and useful arrangement to preserve the traditions, maintain political stability and encourage economic, scientific, technical and cultural development. This is an opinion from outside based on the actual achievements of UK and it’s international role and reputation. It is totally up to British people to decide if they want to continue or change something.

Bosnia and Herzegovina used to be Kingdom as well, but long time ago, before Otoman empire came. I think there is good idea to have some authority such royal family who can keep under control the government but need to be charismatic person with high level of respect from citizens.
It´s difficult for me to understand the sense of having a monarchy... Elected presidents can be flawed, of course, but they can be replaced in next elections... but monarchs are forever!! why that privilege? I don´t know... I think monarchy is a system from another century . Thanks for bringing this topic!! Thanks for you effort, Luke.

From my point of view, the existence of the royal family is a symbol of the British Empire, and at the same time the royal family also bring the royal family economy to the UK. I like royal family especially the Queen.
I definetely do not like polititians or politics. However, i have warm feelings and sympathy for the Queen. To my understanding, the Queen is expected to sit on the fence in state matters. Yet, the Queen and the Royal Family tackle matters that unite the humanity, such as environmentalism etc... A very strategic decision for their role. She represents dignity, patience, solidness, work ethics, patriotism and a life dedicated to service, as they often mention in all documentaries. I believe, her personality has a great contribution in her image, even though she has lots of councelors. Let's see what sort of impressions we will have about the next Monarch. Being a total outsider, non UK citizen, i'd say, keep the Queen Elizabeth ii. definetely, but you may reevaluate the future monarchs. Please do not execute any royals though, if you decide to get rid of the Monarcy 🙏

Hi! It is my first time I hear someone talking about The Royal Family in the UK, especially from an English teacher. From the South World, from my point of view she is a symbolic figure in politics hierarchy and prestigious, as for The Royal Family they are privileged and it could be approached as the white people in the US who have got rights that make them in an upper class over others.

In Spain nobody cares about Jubilee. I was at a Mogwai concert in Barcelona and the singer said "F*** the queen, F*** jubilee" and Spanish audience didn't know what he was talking about.

I am not British, I think the Queen is a respectable woman who has served her country- kingdom the best and she represents stability for British Kingdom. About her family, not much, just 2 of her offspring are good enough to represent her and the institution. Not the rest of her son's of grandsons.
The only reason you think the Queen is a respectable person and not her family is that her image was very controlled and guarded by the royal PR team... Charles and his descendants were around during a lot of press freedom. If she were in their place, I'm sure people would hate her too. She's a human being, not God.
I'm a patriotic Englishman, can't stand the Royals for numerous reasons. Good for tourism, that's it

France makes 3 times more money in tourism, and they don't have royals. People can still stand outside Buckingham palace without there needing to be a queen inside.

Hmm, I think that the monarchy makes Britain more respectable and privileged it's like the cherry on top. On other hand, it's just a waste of people's money from taxes. But you have to pay to stay privileged😄
