They have been trying to ruin my career and isolate me. Luckily I received help from many nice people so I knew how bad those evils are.

  • My stepfather fell on the narcissist/psychopath/sociopath spectrum and he loved being angry as often as he could be - over anything that could give him even the slightest excuse. When we asked him to get some help so as to not be so explosive in the house as it was shredding both mine and my mother’s nerves; she was a sensitive redhead - and had a sixth sense and got anxious and stressed with his constant unwarranted and sudden outbursts. He simply laughed and replied: “But I’m fine, honestly I’m fine.” He didn’t give a toss about the stress he was inflicting on others - quite the opposite as he often seemed to enjoy it.

    • @@Inflec As someone with ASPD I can assure you we are not one in the same. Sociopaths can actually feel some emotions and empathy. Psychopaths however are almost entirely devoid of it and enjoy the process of manipulating people. Sociopaths don't manipulate to cause harm intentionally as psychopaths do. Sociopaths often struggle with life, as have I. It's not easy not being able to connect on a deep emotional level, but it's not impossible. There's been only one girl in my life I actually got attached too, however my anti-social personality makes it difficult for the relationship to last, and eventually I become over bearing as I cannot control the flood of emotion that happened during this time. It was the only time in my life I felt alive. She's gone now though, won't speak to me. I don't really care much for anything else anymore.

  • I wonder if it's a common trait for sociopaths to tend to use 'word salad' as a type of verbiage...? I had a friend who was diagnosed with ASPD (anti-social personality disorder) and this video really helped me to understand why she was the way she was. (She very abruptly ended our two year long friendship about a month ago, after a very minor falling out that we had, which resulted in her exploding in extreme anger on me. The next day I texted her to apologize for my oversight - as well also explaining to her that I thought she was out of line for disrespectfully reprimanding me the way she had, especially over what was a very simple misunderstanding. Ever since then, she's made herself unreachable to me, which absolutely crushed me at how easily it was for her to just discard me the way she did.) Another tendency that I noticed about her was the skewed sense of reality that seemed to have... The ways she'd explain certain life events, how she perceived things, the way she justified certain actions and behaviors, etc... Her realities were often incongruous, contradictory, and even straight up confusing at times... But I loved being friends with her so much, that I chose to overlook them, chalking it up to the fact that we all have our 'quirks'... Also - I just want to say that my thoughts and prayers are with those who've had their lives, hearts and mental states shattered by the heartlessness of sociopathy. It takes a tremendous amount of emotional strength and mental fortitude to pick up the pieces that a person with sociopathy / ASPD can cause one to suffer.

    @KelleyBroussardMackaig@KelleyBroussardMackaig Жыл бұрын
    • Interesting. You mentioned she made herself unreachable. I'm assuming you mean she blocked or ghosted you? But don't you think that indicates anger on her part? And if she had anger she cared. Ive been diagnosed by a psychologist as having antisocial tendencies and usually when I " discard" someone its after an internal assessment of the individual's character/personality. ie. Are they more aggravation than they are worth. If I assess they are then I typically feel indifferent to them and have no need to block because I view them as irrelevant. Now when angered I may plot , study a person etc. But once and if I get revenge then I usually become indifferent afterwards. Your friend to me seems to be more along the lines of narcissistic personality disorder and histrionic with slight paranoia. For her everything is about power dynamics and anything short of chronic praise will cause her to avoid you. You rightly reprimanding her was viewed as a negative judgment something she won't tolerate. And also her becoming belligerent over a minor issue was a ruse. She was looking for any reason to end the friendship. She doesn't behave like a true sociopath because sociopaths are more calculated even if combative. People that " discard" in her manner are too emotionally driven. A person indifferent might still talk to you they just wouldn't care what happened to you good or bad.

  • Too complicated . A real sociopath is networking to secure and advance themselves on the Status ladder (psychologically and literally) and are on the lookout for flaws or information by another person that can be used to degrade that person usually using humorous ridicule behind that persons back if an when needed. Yes of course they will lie but only when they know it can't be proved and change sides when really necessary. They are a lot more cunning and instinctive than this video portrays.

    • Exactly. People are nowadays all psychologists, pop psychology as they say; any normal human mistake or any jerk nature doesn't necessarily mean they are psycho, socio or narc. In fact, sometimes chances are that these energy vampires try to tag their own avatars on others, especially if the target is not confident enough. But one of the main matters is that they have a tremendous manipulative pattern, that gets revealed slowly over time.

    • I would assume you had a relatively stable upbringing then. The problem is, that there is a lot we don't know about the development/causes of antisocial personality disorder. Not all with ASPD will become serial killers. There is some experience and research that indicates a lack of physical touch early on in life, 0-1.5 years of age I believe the range is, can severely alter the nervous system, with a lack of vasopressin release to tune the nervous system, plus the stress of not having needs met, can leave it being muted. Babies who experience this no longer react instinctively to pain. Therefore you get the "lack of care," present in ASPD. But there are also potential genetic factors that could contribute to it as well. It's a complicated thing. Videos like this are designed for clicks, suitable for surface-level suggestions for signs, but that's it.

    • @@Theendman42 Not all? Try most won't. Most sociopaths are not criminals. Also, most serial killers and killers in general are psychopaths. There's a big difference. Psychopaths just simply cannot connect with people at all, and get thrills from manipulating others, sometimes even harming people. Not saying there isn't sociopath killers, but most sociopaths simply are not. ASPD can be exasperated from trauma as well. If you were already pre-disposed for it and go through very extreme trauma, your anti social behavior sky rockets. I was raped by my brother growing up, was bullied throughout my entire childhood, got addicted to meth/heroin, but it was when I accidentally killed someone driving high that sent me over the edge. There have only been a few people in my life I actually have connected with and became attached too, but it's a very selfish form of it. I am not mean or cruel, in fact I am down right too nice because I am desperate to keep them with me. Eventually things deteriorate because I become an emotional burden because I can't control my emotional states in relationships. Again, never am mean or violent, I despise violence actually. Most notably I don't really care about most people in my life. Most of my family I can't stand... Most of my friends I can't stand either. It's lonely...

In my opinion, this video needs a little more to differ for the two mentioned above. For instance, sociopaths are more explosive than pscychopaths. And unlike narcissists they wont mess with you if you dont mess with them. You dont even exist to sociopaths and pscycopaths if you dont have any of interest for them. Unlike a narcissist, if they see you as a threat, they will try to eliminate you. I know this from personal experience. I have four narcissists in my famiy.

    • @@happycat0411wrong. Psychopaths are rooted in genes, because as the name claims, it's a *psycho*path. Sociopaths can have a predisposition, but are generally created due to trauma, so not genetically bound. There are three types of sociopaths. Those hotheads like from the movies that go around a cause chaos, sociopaths who simply enjoy chaos, though as an observational hobby whilst not being involved unless required, and who use the disorder as sort of a superpower, where they make good connections, and even can make friends. To elaborate, sociopaths can understand emotions very well and can feel them, though extremely shallowly, because they had emotions but something cut them off. There is also a high chance that a sociopath is unable to communicate their own emotions. Same goes for empathy, though if they feel it it's usually rationalised and not, well, "emotional". These are self aware, high-functioning sociopaths. And yeah, there's the third kind, those that are ashamed, as per say, of themselves, hence they turn to therapy because they want to escape it. Then again, there are obviously those with a predisposition, who've learned emotions to fit in. A friend of mine is a sociopath, a predispositioned one, I believe, who studies psychology and is very good at it, a natural. He claims that there's chance that I'm a high-functioning one, in a way partially confirming my self diagnosis.

  • It’s unfortunate when that person happens to be a family member. I feel pulled in different directions during inflated family drama. My instinct is to be honest about my perspective, but that tends to escalate it. If I simply affirm everything, I keep the peace, but I’m sacrificing true nature to seek truth. I don’t agree with the model of “cutting out all toxic people.” It sounds like the easier choice, but not the right one.

  • I was married to one and did he tick ALL of these boxes... I twigged him a few weeks into our marriage but too late for this little fly trapped in his alluring spiders web, but that was just the tip of the iceberg on what was to become for me and my family's a nightmare's journey into hell... One word of advice, never, ever confront a sociopath about something - they turn into exceptionally nasty and dangerous people as I was to unfortunately find out. After I kicked him out and got my divorce going, he went on to his next "girlfriend" sorry, I should say victim and repeated the same trick over again exactly the same modus operandi and then after that with the next girl...

  • I agree with most of what you’re saying. Ever since I’ve educated myself about the narcissist I’ve understood why I was the escape goat when I was a child. I have experienced the work place bullies and do my best to avoid those individuals unless I have to work closely. Is it possible that I should consider myself a sociopath? I stay to myself mostly these days and don’t mind doing activities that I enjoy alone and with my dog.

    • I once asked my father a similair thing. I told him “What if I am a sociopath without knowing, and that I think that my reality is the normative experience, but I have actually just been using everyone around me for my own sake without understanding it? What if I am unintentionally hurting others?!” He literally bellylaughed and asked me what made me think so, had I recognized myself on the symptoms? I told him, “yes, but only a few that I ‘till now had assumed was just a normal part of the human experience” (Like giving compliments all the time because you want to make people feel seen and welcome in their own lives, and having a hard time creating routines = learning from mistakes. I have later on been diagnosed with adhd, which explains that latter symptom.) My father said: “Well, everyone has good and bad sides to them. Some of these symptoms can be present in a person for completely other reasons. Having most of these symptoms however, paints a pattern that can be describes as Sociopathyic tendencies. But one things a sociopath would never be able do is what you are doing now. You are so sincerely worried for potentially having hurt someone that it makes you emotionally stressed, meaning you deeply care of how other people feel not just about how you are percieved by them, A sociopath actually wouldn’t care very much about how they potentially have hurt someone, and they would thus probably never feel compelled to ask themselves these hard questions. Many sociopath have something in common with narcissists too, where they are completely uninterested in and unwilling to entertain a narrative where THEY could be “the bad guy” or someone who has a negative effect on others. Maintaining their own egos intact is so important to them that even the thought of them being the problem is absolutely unthinkable to them. They have a warped sense of reality, and would rather demonize everyone else in their lives than see that they are the common thread to the patterns in their own lives. So the fact that you are 1, willing to ask these questions about yourselves, and 2, able to care of how you affect others, means that you probably don’t have anything like this. Also, I have been your father all your life and I have never seen anything that has given me cause to worry about this at all. Rather the opposite. You would rather let someone think what they want of you than go argue and force them to see you in a perfect light. You shy away from conflicts and you care about your friends enough to have kept most of them since childhood. You know how to give and take, not just take. You can receive criticism without feeling attacked. You can address your own shortcomings instead of trying to cover them up, and you take responsibility when something goes wrong instead of pointing fingers only at everyone else.” I hope this summary of my conversation with my dad can be helpful to you too. I realized he was right: even if I have a few of the symptoms there, the main concerns of “being willing to use others to satisfy my own needs” or “not caring if I hurt someone if I get what I wanted” or “gaining/maintaining relationships in order to rise in the social” doesn’t fit me at all. It’s like when we have a physical symptom, say stomach pain, and we Google it and end up suspecting that we have cancer. The only symptom that matches is stomach pain, and there can be a hundred different reasons.

  • As I was listening to this list I was struck by how much I sound like a sociopath. I feel like a high-functioning Asperger's', so some elements of my perception might be skewered. I few things of note, I definitely feel remorse, I am very aware of my mistakes (and seek to change the mistakes without changing others), and I feel the anger of others. I am also not an ass-kiss, so I am not sure where this places me.

  • Im an empath and these folks so often see me as an easy mark because of the emotional nature of empaths . But, being who I am, I see them as though they have a yellow caution light on their heads. So I listen and smile and nod my head, and the instant they walk away, I wipe them and our conversation away like a milk mustache. They think they've " touched my heart " when in reality they have had no effect on me, my life or my decisions. It's taken me 65 years to get here. ALOT of pain in my youth. Not really their fault. We are who we are. No grudges. I've just learned to take things and humans as they come. It's up to me to protect myself. I just prefer to do it with a smile. Have an incredible day. EVERYDAY!!!

  • I have just been with a sociopath for five years who dropped me so quickly … he told me he was a a high functioning sociopath recently which has ended our relationship… I’ve tried discussing it with him but he won’t respond… he made me feel it was me that was the issue in our relationship… I was weak and didn’t think I was worth any better…. I don’t understand how he can get away with treating people like this … it’s broken my heart because I loved him but this was the last straw… it made everything make sense and he fits it even though he is self diagnosed. Really sad for those dealing with the trauma and he stress it has caused .
