      @Romez27@Romez27Ай бұрын
    • The problem is that no one actually wants to address these issues and treat it like a serious problem. Higher costs of living means lower confidence in the future. The high cost of health care in the US makes it a question of "should we have kids" to "can we afford to have kids" is representative of the problems faced by these countries. Constant attempts to cut labor to show "gains" isn't helping things either.

      @ohnosmoarlulcatz@ohnosmoarlulcatzАй бұрын
    • That's not true for everywhere in the US. It's mostly in the larger cities. If you're hunting for your dream job or career, they tend to be in major cities. But, midsized and smaller cities need those same youths and can provide decent pay as well as decent home prices. The comparison of the US to China is like comparing the color blue to the number seven. Another difference is that US grads can go overseas as highly skilled workers without those countries fearing potential IP theft or sabotage. Chinese nationals tend to have negative connotations in the tech, medical, and business sectors due to a few bad apples.

Like, people who're living that way don't rise up out of poverty because their situation made it remotely possible, they succeeded in SPITE of it. So when the people here riot and flip out over meager pay, systemic abuse, dehumanization and ridiculous housing prices, I have their backs. NY city hospitals were drowning in patients, refrigerated trucks not able to handle all the corpses, staff desperately begging for the PPE they weren't getting... and meanwhile Trump and the Republicans were STILL telling Americans that Covid was nothing to be worried about. Just a cold that would "go away one day like a miracle". In a time when leadership and speed of action were of essence, he shrugged and sat back and told State leaders to do whatever they wanted. • A few years back there was a university student movement. They were doing their required reading in Communism, when they started reading Marx. It occurred to a growing number of them that the CCP was not what Marx was describing. PRC workers were being exploited. They were not allowed to organize in order to gain better treatment. The CCP was run by wealthy elites and not the people. These students then began to organize workers and put into actual practice what Marx and early socialists were describing. These students were then rounded up and imprisoned, their families threatened, and were forced into disavowal of what they had been attempting: an actual worker's party. Basically, the CCP made them renounce Marx and socialism.

    • this is especially significant with cultures that have a deep history with Confucianism with its order dictated from Heaven in a rigid hierarchical top down - with Korea being the worse at this, China has mitigated some of this over time, and Japan partially, but Korea stuck 'true' to its flaws. Nepotism is inherently encouraged. The effective rulers of Korea are the heads of the Samsung conglomerate (and similar mega corporations), there 'elected' figures are basically puppets and fall guys. TLTR: acknowledgement for success flows/is stolen up the chain, and blame/costs only flows down and ends up with the bottom tier splintering into factions blaming each other. the rest of the world isn't clean of its own mess either.

My generation bought shoes at the grocery store and ate garbage soup once a week where you take all your leftovers and make a pot of soup. I see 20 year olds with a car, truck, townhouse, jet ski, boat, motorcycle and huge screen tv’s. I grew up in the 80’s-90’s and we would drag cars out of the weeds and drive them for years.
