    • I feel that he was the soul of that movie for sure. And Wolf of Wall Street, I feel was carried by Jonah Hill. Only my opinion. Leo DiCaprio was the star, but brilliant character actors are what make the movie real to me.

    @mikeyswag123456@mikeyswag123456 Жыл бұрын
    • Exactly what I was thinking. He seems rather reserved and shy. He's probably nervous too. Who wouldn't? Some actors (especially in the 80's, 90's) like to try to maintain their tough guy image off screen. Liotta not at all. He could have jumped on the bandwagon so well. All he had to do was milk the fact that he hung out with all the real mobsters. But not at all. Says even he doesn't want anything to do with Henry Hill. Somehow that makes him even more likeable. That he's just an actor. A professional actor.

      @rolanddeschain6089@rolanddeschain6089 Жыл бұрын
    • True. Same case with Christian Bale. He is so intimidating and intense on screen, but when you watch his interviews he seems very quiet, very down to earth, and very warm. And still, people wonder if that's really Bale. You just know his on-screen characters, but his real self is an enigma - that is the definition of a great actor. Yet another actor like this is Daniel Day-Lewis. As for Di Caprio, for example, I always thought he is overrated. He can act, sure, but I always still see Di Caprio behind every role, that part of him that is very public because he likes to appear in the media. Of course, one still doesn't know how he is behind closed doors, but there are certain parts of a personality that you can't fake or hide if you are a lot in the media, and it's especially true of actors who expose themselves publicly quite often.

  • It was indeed a shock to hear of his passing, at much too young an age! The first time I remember seeing him in any role was as "a man out there on your lawn," as little Gaby/Karin (now 40!) put it. When that striking face with the penetrating stare just appeared on the screen, suddenly, shockingly, I remember thinking what a brilliant piece of casting. He was, quite simply, an actor who didn't act like an actor. Like they'd reached back across time, snatched up the actual guy, and plunked him down in the middle of an Iowa cornfield. Ray Liotta portrayed that honest, striking _realism,_ like a face in an old sepia photograph... without saying a word. Just sending all that energy into the camera. The man was really something special. A force of nature. R.I.P. Ray Liotta! You will be missed!

  • Ray really had a good laugh, I love his "evil laugh" but its not evil at all, he's just enjoying himself. We lost Liotta way too soon. So unexpected, he's also been very underused these last 10 years or more.

    @kowalski5599@kowalski5599 Жыл бұрын
    • Yep, and the sad irony (to your point about him being 'underused') is Ray talked about how this past year he'd never been so busy vs. all the ups-and-downs he experienced in show business. And the fact that he was about to be married to supposedly a wonderful woman makes his passing even more tragic.

He struck up a conversation talked for about 20 mins having a smoke told me he had a movie coming out titled Wiseguys. Very friendly talker just like he is talking to Dave. Goodfellas turned out to be to this day the greatest film I have seen. RIP and Aloha Ray . You left us too early

I assumed that the movie was brilliant because everything is brilliant on mushrooms. So I watched it again a few days later completely straight. Still brilliant. Probably even more,brilliant. 30 years later is still my top 5 fave films ever. ‘Something Wild’ blew my teenage mind years before. RIP Ray. You burned so bright.
