    • @@agustdhitmaker Hmm? I've been a fan of them for several years now, their discography is mostly excellent. The grandiose intro is spectacular as it is something they would opt for, then when I heard the rest of the song, it's sounds somewhat grating for me and to some others as well "Slathering Jimin’s voice in a steady stream of audio effects. Ironically, this constrains his performance. We get the sense of desperation as his notes are stretched into synthetic heaven (or hell?), but the constant fiddling quickly becomes obnoxious. The second verse is a chore to get through." As one music critic said who has been following them since debut. Also this becomes worse when people realize that it's the same member who made Lie and Serendipity. So it's kind of a hard pill for some of us to swallow, and to fellow veteran ARMY's as well.

  • The poem Jimin has written on his body is in German and by a famous poet called Rainer Maria Rilke. The poem is called ‘I live my life in widening circles’ and was written in 1899. It's translation:- I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it I circle around God, around the primordial tower I've been circling for thousands of years and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song? And the end, him in the white clothes, might be a reference to the second concept of his upcoming album, Face... The concepts are Hardware and Software... One can be seen by eyes but the other one cannot.. We can see his thrones but not the scars... His concept photos palette suggests this song to be of a hardware part whereas the sudden change in white might mean that after this freedom he is now ready to embrace the scars within... But, whatever that might be.. JIMIN ROCKED... like always... P.S.: Those crescent moons are his real tattoos... might not directly be related.. not so sure

  • I have a humble take on this. What's written on his chest is a German poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. The English translation goes: "I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I've been circling for thousands of years and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?" I think this poem is the best fit to explain his solo exploration. Because the first lines itself talks about "widening circles" as in expanding one's sphere or conquering different worlds. Sort of like the ripples in a pond, which is precisely the circles shown in his album covers. It's about growth as an artist and finding himself and his craft on the way. This is another phase of his life and guess what rhymes with "phase"! FACE.

  • They are inside a panopticon. The spiral is a Fibonacci sequence. The poem on his body is in German- it reads, "I live my life in growing circles/ which ring out over the things around me./ Perhaps I'll never finish the last,/ but that's what I'm going to try./ I'm circling around God, around the ancient tower,/ and I've been circling for thousands of years;/ and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm/ or a great song." You can catch glimpses of his "Nevermind" tattoo on his right ribcage in the first half of the MV and you can see that they had to cover it up in the second half so the poem could be written on him. He also as "13" on his inner left wrist, "Young" on the back of his left arm, "Forever" on the back of right arm, "7" on the inside of his left index finger, "Youth" behind his left ear, and the newest are the moon phases down his back. Until this MV, we've only seen the top one... he said we'll eventually see them all. :) The line, "Gotta go insane to stay sane" is borrowed from their song "ON". This MV was directed by the same guy that directed the MV for SUGA's "Shadow" on the "Map of the Soul 7" album. If you recall, that whole album was based on the psychologist Carl Jung's philosophy of the Persona, Shadow, and Ego. They tend to use the heavy autotune when singing about their shadow selves/darker halves... see "Shadow", "ON", "Black Swan"... Jimin will be on the Jimmy Fallon show on the 23rd and 24th next week! He is also prerecording live performances for the music award programs in Korea. This song is the fastest song IN HISTORY to reach #1 on iTunes in 100 Countries!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white.” Thank YOU Knox!

Actually a lot of themes similar to their previous albums, which is really cool imo. I'm really curious about how the album is going to be, cause this was really interesting. :O

The singer explained to CoS that the title is a wink a song on bandmate Suga’s 2020 D-2 mixtape from alter ego Agust D. “There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide part one or part two,” he said. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and SUGA’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.”"

  • Fibonacci sequence in the choreo?? We’ve all heard BTS sing live while doing intense choreo so of course they don’t need auto tune but they like to use it to add meaning to the intensity of songs. Think Louder Than Bombs, Shadow, On etc. Autotune has such a bad rep for obvious reasons but when used right it’s goosebumps! I really liked this. Jimin has arguably been one of the most targeted with hate since BTS’ debut. He has every right to explode with emotions. He’s said he wanted to convey a lot and that this album is deep. All BTS members get involved in the concepts of their work, this has a lot of layers to peel!

He confirmed that it’s a nod to a track on bandmate Suga’s second mixtape, D2. “There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide one or two part,” he explains. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and Suga’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.”

Many commenters here have discussed the German poem on his chest, the panopticon that they are in for the video, Fibonacci Sequence and the Golden Ratio (what people see as a spiral or the number 9), the reference to Butterfly….it all is so perfectly interwoven to show Jimin’s inner struggles to overcome and his movement toward finally being FREE to be what he is as an artist True to himself! You are the only reactor that I have seen that has pointed our the hidden “enemy” that he sings toward the end…..I missed it too. • In the MV, creating people around Jimin is like a Panopticon. The panopticon is a very old concept (from the 18th century) that was intended to create model prisoners. So the idea was for the prisoners to be visible 24/7 in this large structure. So while Jimin says the word "set me free" he is in a literal visual prison. Foucault described the prisoner of the panopticon as the recipient of asymmetric surveillance: Seen, but not seen, it is an object of information, never an object of communication. The pressure is high, people "watch out" for breaking/hurting the group (the community, their fans and themselves). Following this logic, it is assumed that Jimin would be "free" if he expressed himself as he is without fear of making mistakes.

  • Jimin's new album 'FACE' is out now and I really think you'd enjoy listening to it (even if that's just on your own time) as it's just really damn good music and a story of emotions flowing from start to finish! The title track 'Like Crazy' is perfection! Looking forward to your own MV release on YT later Knox, will be there to support and hopefully other ARMY can too 😊

  • As always with these men, every detail is so deliberately thought out. I can watch this over and over again... When Vibe dropped, I caught a difference in how he used his voice that got me really excited for what we might hear in his solos and I'm so glad I was right. (It was different in a sort of "oh he's been working on this" way.) I love that he wasn't afraid to show us this part of himself. He decided to trust us and take a risk. I'm so happy. Couple of strong references to "On" in here... Which makes a lot of sense thematically. And of course the title referencing Suga's work... It's like Jimin wanted to make sure however different he looks and sounds, he's still BTS, and the past self is coming with him into the future. I can't wait for the rest of the album. RM sang on his and it looks like Jimin's giving us some rap 😁 I'm looking forward to more surprises

  • The auto tune is also only done on the lines when he is talking to his past self. It’s very strategic and clever. Sucks that some people get so hung up on their own pre-notions of auto tune to miss the cleverness behind it. Great reaction Prof.

  • Thank you for another excellent reaction. This song is a startling departure from Jimin's previous work and is so intense visually and musically. "Henessey and nights" reminds me that Jimin and Suga are the members known for their ability to put the stuff away. "go insane to stay sane" is an echo of the same line in "ON". And the aggressive rap lines channel Suga's savagery. BTS videos always have layers of meanings and symbols. For me, the song seems to present us with catharsis and resolution in the final image of Jimin in white. Thank you for articulating those details that enrich the song and the performance. I look forward to the rest of the album.

  • Really hard to spot observation too but he’s losing accessories/items as the song progresses. Big message. And just like we’ve come to expect from BTS, so many links to previous themes and messages. Black Swan (the black and white), On (gotta go insane to stay sane) and Jimin’s solo Lie which is about freeing himself from the lies that consume him. So many parallels. I love that this represents a prison like a panopticon too, that adds so much more. I love music that expands perception!! And I adored your breakdown thank you. Please check out his full album when it releases next week if you can 💜

This is just part of it written in German This is the poem tatooed on Jimin’s chest I live my life in widening circles” Rainer Maria Rilke “I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it…”

  • @4:50 I believe the spiral is called a Fibonacci sequence. Their is a whole bunch of math and psychology stuff with it that it is hard to write (plus I have a hard time understanding). Also the “building” he is in looks like panopticon design. So people have interpreted how this design is also used is like this: This concept is now applied to thinking about surveillance states (CCTV) and social media. (For the nerds this is the work of Foucault and then a bunch of social media, comms, and HCI scholars have picked this up. Fun Fact: the music director is the same guy who did Interlude Shadow by Suga 😉

  • 3:52 Your point on autotune! THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THIS! It's so true because the song gets hate for its use of autotune, accusing Jimin of not singing but he CAN sing, with such versatility too! The autotune is literally used to elevate that electronic, heavy effect; you said it very well!

  • Jimin didn't started rapping now he has been rapping since years if you check out the BTS' Debut album and mini albums, the ones from their debut days back in 2013-2014 , Jimin actually has rapped in most of the songs along with Jungkook since their concept back in their debut days was hip-hop, raps and teenager concept. And *MY THEORY FOR THIS SONG*- Jimin's - SET ME FREE is the rebellious version aka part 2 of Suga's(Agust D) Interlude from D-2 : SET ME FREE which was initially a soft and hopeful song requesting to "set me free!" But Jimin's version is a demanding , commanding and rebellious one!

I love the comments abt the different tones and cadence jimin uses in the intro verses, bc that's a voice he used a lot in bts' earlier music. imo this is jimins mots, combining all influences he had in his career so far and revisiting what he put out in lie

  • - "Set Me Free Pt.2" scene inspired by Jeremy Bentham's Panopticons And in this MV there are references to Rainer Maria Rilke, Carl Jung, Michel Foucault, Fibonacci Sequence…. The Panopticon is a type of prison designed by the English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham The design concept is to allow one observer to monitor all the prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell if they are being watched or not. Bentham described the Panopticon as "a new way of obtaining the power of the mind over the mind". Which creates a sense of constant supervision and control.

To gain the knowledge of where we disconnected and how to move on helps us to spiral out. We must challenge ourselves in situations to grow
