  • Very well observed. Jimin recently disclosed in an interview that not only is this inspired by the 2011 movie, Like Crazy, but the central theme of the song is to cope from the heavy emotions post breakup. "Losing oneself while searching for a loved one in a dream." - Jimin on his song Like Crazy for Spotify interview.

  • The way I interpret this song is that Jimin had things he wanted to do, a life he wanted to live, but he was forced into an state of euphoria in order to escape the immense anxiety and pain he was experiencing. He would either have to live with unbearable pain or live unhealthily without it. "This is gonna break me" is referencing a break in the soul/mind. This song really hit me hard since I recently went through a very traumatizing sickness (nothing life threatening but imagine you are having a violent coughing attack 24/7 for 9 months except the coughing is vomiting). The only way I was able to get through that was to literally escape my mind. I had a fruit cough drop in my mouth all day to distract me from my hunger, I couldn't sleep so I had to stay up all night multiple times a week (around 12 hrs of sleep weekly). So instead of getting into bed I played video games for 10-16 hrs at a time to distract me from my painful attacks and even more gruesome nights. Sometimes I would even go 3-4 days without sleep because even if I got in bed, my sickness was actively making me sweat like I just had a 6hr sports practice (I was an athlete). Every time I ate I had to pray that at least 10% of it would stay down. I went from 195lbs to 145lbs. My life was just an illusion and I could only live and think in the present. Focused only what's in front of me and not losing a drop of focus even to remember 10s in the past. A year and a half later I am still suffering from the aftereffects its had on me. I lost most of my ability to think and memorize which forced me into leaving college where I was studying astrophysics at a top university, Caltech as well as leaving collegiate baseball. My sense of time and direction is almost entirely gone. I can no longer react emotionally unless I am on medication, and the emotions I feel are very shallow and go away instantly. I know I can no longer go back to what I once was, but It is even harder to realize who I am and my own identity. It took me 21 years to find my personality and dreams, and I can only think that it will take me another 10-20 more years to re-find myself. Jimins album is a wonderful interpretation of losing yourself and then trying to find yourself again. While I do not know if he is still suffering and sure hope he is not, this album has had an immense impact on my emotions and has given me reassurance that I am not alone in my struggles.

  • This is Jimin's feelings during lockdown and the pandemic. He missed being able to hang out with friends, he missed the 'relationship' with Army. He worried that things would become too different as time progressed and things wouldn't feel the same. Like when we haven't seen someone for a long time and then when we see them again the vibe has changed and it's the beginning of the end. This song is sad tbh.

    @Angela-lb9zi@Angela-lb9zi Жыл бұрын
    • Jimin literally said his debut album is about his persona life so many times. Stop twisting every song and his words to suit your possessive and self-centeteredness. I am so sick of hearing these dumb theories for every song of Jimin's. Show some maturity and throw away your lunacy. If this song was about "army" then you guys are the villain in the song, because the female voice entices him into a fake life and he is depicting himself as the victim and being held hostage by false claims and seduction into a flashy life that is "gonna break him." And his wearing or the Stockholm shirt is saying he is held hostage in a dark place by this female captor (depicted by run down public washroom with black sewage coming out of the stalls) to stay in a lustful party life (depicted by people making out in public), and he shows himself exhausted and dirtied by this lifestyle that is fake. But he is lonely, and the female voice calls him baby and lures him, but what he gets is only temporary pleasure seeking. He is a victim that wants to escape (set me free is written on the restroom wall), but he fell prey to Stockholm syndrome to this female voice, so he wants to be free but is emotionally too weak to leave. I guess the fandom and the industry do have that impact, and have indeed held Jimin captive in this toxic way. So yes the song can be about you guys. But make no mistake you are villain, not the good. The whole album is very much about the anger and loneliness that arose from a toxic relationship. If you insist this is about the fandom, then you admit you are evil and has harmed Jimin. But it clearly is about an manipuative ex.

  • It’s so cool seeing their individuality shine and knowing this will make for an even stronger BTS when they are able to reunite: Jimin said that at a time he felt lost, he spoke to the members about how he was feeling and they suggested putting it into music. This album ‘FACE’ was then born. The songs are really good and very personal. There’s a lot of experimentation in sounds too which I think you’d enjoy!

  • I love your reaction and insights to this music video. You were able to capture specific points and even got how the lyrics weren’t just surface level. Jimin did say that the songs on his first solo album, including Like Crazy, were influenced by the emotions he felt during the pandemic, and yes, this particular song was based on a movie with the same title.

Jimin is a very self-reflective person and I think he sincerely wants you (his fans, audience) to understand. BTW, you may have already been informed re your reaction to Jimin’s “Closer Than This” that Oct. 13th is his birthday; and BTS’s debut date was June 13, 2013.

  • Yes thank you 🙏 The album is genuinely super deep and tells a story of emotions. Beneath the surface of this and in the visuals especially there’s another story about Jimin ‘facing himself’ and some Jung themes continuing into this too! There’s no end to BTS symbolism even on their own projects. I enjoyed this very much thanks Knox 😊

  • Just read a really interesting interview with Jimin, he said this album is really personal to him and that he decided on the themes for the song, wrote the lyrics and basically lived with the producers day in day our so got to properly appreciate the production side to the music. I hope you can check out the other songs too. Your interpretations are always brilliant!

  • Written to show how he was feeling during the pandemic; knowing military enlistment would be breaking up the band sooner than later, and there's also a lot of Jung symbolism. Anima/animus - masculine/feminine the recognition and acceptance of your feminine/masculine side. Thats all in this song and video as well. Thanks Knox as usual you show really good insight into BTS songs , music, words and flow. and I'm also loving 'Butterfly Effect'.

    • @@lulahmed9610 i understand what she was saying. She isn't saying Jimin is feminine she if im correct is saying he got a lot of flack for being or appearing feminine especially with his voice. I constantly saw people hating on jimin due to his voice. I believe he struggled a lot internally because of that. Oh by the way maybe not music related every human beings have female and male hormones in them just so you know. Try not to get too caught up in thinking when people mention feminine in men thats its disrespecting them because it isn't.

    • I think a better way to say the different sides of him would be like the photo shoot for the album. The hardware side vs the soft side. But honestly all the guys are like that. I am thankful they have both sides. I think that is one reason many of us are drawn to them. They are not afraid to show both sides of them. 😊 Great job in breaking down the lyrics and music video Knox well done as usual! 🫰💜

      @Raynstor.m@Raynstor.m Жыл бұрын
    • @@lulahmed9610 imagine thinking the word feminine is an insult and not respecting an artist enough to consider their ability to incorporate different interpretations into their art. Gender is not a fixed concept, it is a social construct that can be played with and interpreted, something that Jimin explicitly refers to many times in his art. Jimin has a feminine side which is something he has reconciled with over the years, that does not make him less of a man or less of a person.

  • I am genuinely always so impressed with how quickly you catch the subtleties of these songs. You’re one smart cookie. This song seems like a feel good party song on the surface, but to me, it felt a lot darker. He perfectly captured the feeling of going out to forget your troubles, and sure, on the surface you’re having a good time. But you can be standing in the middle of the dance floor, and just like the mud in the MV, your troubles can follow you. And you’ll suddenly feel so alone in a sea of people. Or you’ll take a break in the bathroom, bass muffled through the doors, just staring at yourself in the mirror, room spinning; wondering what the hell you’re doing, and how it’s gone so wrong. This song brings me such a nostalgic feeling, between the subject matter and the 80s vibe. I’m obsessed. And glad we have like, five different versions to play on repeat. 😂😂

You're right about it being heavy at its roots; Jimin has explained that this whole album chronicles how he felt when the pandemic hit. You can make a pretty strong case for the 5 main tracks being the 5 stages of grief, and yeah, this one would be bargaining. • This song sounds like a dark fairy tale. your voice sounds like a whisper making you go somewhere. it's like a dream, but again like you're using substances. you kinda start to feel a little bit of what jimin wants us to feel. that girl, once they meet in the middle, all the half-stop shots look like we see him through that girl's eyes. and at the end he looks as the camera pans around, it's like we're spinning too but looking at him as he says "I need a way we can dream". and he looks down again like he can't find a way and it hurts him to the core. it's just not a new thought for him to cry over, just to accept that he'll keep trying. he looks at the camera often but looks different when we see the girl is nearby. it seems that he is talking to us/her. But it's like he's trying to tell us something that's hard to explain, but he does. he'd rather be outside than feel the sad emotions sober. Jimin said something about the album expressing the feelings he felt during the pandemic in chronological order. in a sense it involves the army, bts or jimin himself all at once. it was always about us, emotions confirm how he must have felt all this time. the "forever you and me" is always in the background at different times, only softly if you listen carefully. some things I still can't fully explain but it's not just us but Jimin himself, always striving for perfection but all things considered seems out of reach. the "alone again... what's the point" is so painful because he can really feel it. as if he gives up for a moment, or goes back to being sad and sober, no longer in the club where he can forget in the company of his friends, fans, etc. there's so much I want to explain, but there are some things I can't connect or explain yet. regardless, this M/V was profound. between sad and the sudden sound change slowly relieves you of the sadness and distracts you, until you are alone again, then it starts. no wonder he doesn't want to go away or be saved. he wants to live in that moment when everything is temporarily fine. the bathroom scene reminds me of movies where the party is outside and the bathrooms are where you will cry and think and reflect and drown before you go out again and forget. you want to forget, but you occasionally remember, leading you to go back and forget AGAIN. the sadness being an incentive factor to go out and party, not sober up and just enjoy the lights, completely lost. BETWEEN A MIX OF FICTION AND STRONG REALITIES. ANOTHER WORK OF ART BY THIS THINKING BEING. APPLAUSE.👏👏👏❤

  • For some reason my comment didn’t post ~ He wrote this album during the pandemic, which is why it has a darker tone. They were all suffering from everything that was happening and missing ARMY and their people and not being able to perform, which they all say is their reason for doing music. You said you see him escaping to an external world to escape his internal turmoil. But in a sense this flows the opposite way. He says this song is about a fantasy club he can run away to in his mind, to see people he misses and forget about all the struggle and pain at that time in the real world.

  • from what we got while looking at the dance performance for like crazy isjimin trying to come in terms with this identity the whole theme of this album was facing himself so the girl in the mv was literally his reflection cz when he comes face to face with her the scene cuts and he is in the bathroom looking at himself in the mirror so it is more like he coming in terms with his feminine and masculine sides both

    • my god this FAN theory is not to be spread around like the gospel. Jimin's already stated in Rolling Stones Interview two days ago that the message is straight forward: it's about coping from loss of a relationship. No where has he YET to mention the words "masc or fem" so refrain from speaking over your artist maybe?

  • You have really good logical reason for this song. I agree with you. Sometimes people just enjoying the song not the lyrics and the background of the song created. But, you really breakdown the lyrics details one by one.

I really think it's a travesty that you are not more widely recognised but I also believe that day is coming. You really deserve it Knox! You're my favourite person on YT for the way you've always been so amazing with your BTS breakdowns and never took us for a ride like so many others. I appreciate your honesty and your love for music inspires me. As long as you're enjoying what you do then I'm enjoying supporting! Plz post a l1nk to your new song for ARMY, it's really right up a BTS fans street!!
