In this video I share 4 steps to learn your back handspring and give you a series of gradual progressions you can use to safely master your back handspring.
The Gymnastic Progression Step Method and Technique was inspired by the teachings from StrengthProject here: / strengthproject
The Backyard Ninja Method was the method I personally used to get my back handspring.
Great resource for acrobatics and bodyweight strength.

Me
The cartwheel technique really works if you want to try again and you can put cushions on where your going to land
I'm afraid I'll land on my head
Jasmine Lowney you won't. I was afraid, just don't pull out and go for it, keep your arms strong and you should be fine. I landed on m head on the group and it didn't even hurt
Jasmine Lowney Do it on a trampoline or mattress. Keep your arms as straight as possible and PUSH!
Jasmine Lowney when I landed on my head doing it it was fun and I keep doing it and got it
Jasmine Lowney me too
Jasmine Lowney SAME
'And it helps him from not breaking his neck, and dying' ...😂Omg

He did. He used a 3d printer.
Thankyou so much for this video! I have been trying to get my backhandspring for about a year now and even with a spotter or going to my gym, I was too scared to jump backwards. But by using your method of slowly going backwards more and more I finally got it!! Im sooooooooo happy! thanks!
Belle Green this is the comment I was looking for to see if it actually worked
Congrats
lmao me
Thomas, the backyard ninja method was the way I taught myself many years ago on my mattress when I was 5 years old. You gave me a lot of nostalgia just now. I never thought anyone else taught themselves that way.
Thank you so much! I have been trying to get my back handspring for ages and have just been too scared to commit jumping backwards. I learnt a backhandspring on the trampoline but I have been way too scared to try it on grass. After watching about a million different tutorials I still couldn't do it. Luckily a stumbled across this video and tried the backwards cartwheel. After a few attempts, I did the backhandspring and found that going backwards wasn't as scary as I originally thought. I will continue to use this tutorial to help improve my backhandspring. Thank you again. 😀
Very informative thank you. I always had a problem w/ the back handspring. Only performed it once and that was because I was under pressure. Going forward though, I was pretty good at. Front handsprings and flips. I'm 46 now, don't think I'll be learning this at this point even though I still do my best to keep in shape.
Thanks! This helped a lot! I'm a cheerleader and I've been doing parkour to, I used to have my backhand spring but I got a mental block, just seeing you talk about what to do has helped me ease back into throwing it!
I LLLLOOOVEE how this channel does everything in a smart way. Everything is systematic and planned out and truthful. Im constantly brought back to this channel cuz its one of the few channels that actually provide good solid and honest info that has a lot of thought and work put into.
I can imagine their parents registered one kid for school and they would alternate each day while the other one practices parkour
😂😂😂
Omg I got my back handspring! Thanks so much Tappbrothers🙏🏻 can't Wait to do roundoff back handsprings!?
+TappBrothers Funny thing is I am more comfortable doing a back tuck more than a Back handspring, mostly because it's all mental for me at this point. To break/ or soften this wall of fear, I usually practice the macaco on both sides, a back walk over on both sides and backward rolls into handstands, Those movements to me have similar motion to me, especially with the snap down.
Your videos are so detailed and informational, so unlike all the other tutorial vids on KZhead. I found this so helpful. So thx.
Thanks for uploading gymnastics and tricking tutorials, I just started learning them and these videos breaking the techniques down really help as I can get very technical with how I perform the moves
9:50 i can imagine him falling into the pool.
You guys are awesome! thank you so much! Tapp bros, I really owe you guys! Got over my fear and can now do a back handspring! Thank you!
This really did help me I'm so glad I watch this tutorial and now I have my back handspring and I'd I just wanted to thankfor helping me getting over this fear of my back handspring so thank you for posting this video so that I can learn how to do it
OMG tysm, I was going to try out for a cheer squad over summer so I really wanted to get in ans I felt like I needed this move desperately and nothing was helping me go backwards. Im still not doing it properly but the cartwheel method is amazing. I have subscribed !!!!!!
Me: finds this video. thinks: I’ll do it later.... falls asleep for the rest of the day.
This video really helped my sister with are backhand spring thanks for the advice.
I really love how you put so much detail into how to do tricks. Thank you so much.
The independent one is such a good way to learn it...I’m proud to say I can now do my back handspring. So, thank you so much! 🙏
so glad this finally came out :D
I still can't get over the fear, any advice?
de geweldenaar screw you why would u say that ass
Do small steps that lead to big results. Head over to strength project on youtube and look on their back handspring. They have excellent tips to get over the fear. After i watched their video I could do a back handspring.
Vincent Diiorio I can do a back handspring I suggest trying it with a spotter on the tramp and eventually doing a back limber on the ground and going faster, just be brave 😛
Try backbend first!
Star Williams
The backyard Ninja Method worked with me last summer! Great system!
I'm hyped just watching this tonight. I have a perfect Valdez but no clean Backhandspring with 2 arms. I think I'll get it now though. I watched your Aerial vid a months back and now they are as easy as cartwheels. Looking forward to training in the morning. Thanks Tapp Brothers.
I'm going to try that crooked backward cartwheel method tomorrow. Thanks for the pointers!
Did you get your backhandspring??
Not yet, but it's looking better than before. The crooked cartwheel is still very crooked, but one day, it's going to click, I can feel it.
Ramsey Dewey I randomly did mine yesterday while just jumping into a back bend did it again with more jump and did it on the ground! Today I wasn't scared I still am not it's just I'm bending my arms really badly yesterday it was almost perfect so idk if I should just rest keep trying or to do some strengthing skills.
I just realized it's because I was looking down and not ahead so I was not getting enough height and I was scaring myself.. I just looked ahead a second ago did it and it was like the first time I did it ( you can see a video of my bhs on my musically @chloe.berman )
Chloe Hey did you get it?
You really helped me how to get power thanks😊
this is probably the best video of doing a backhand spring I watch this at least 3 times and I got it
i will definetly try it this weekend! thanks
Thank you so much for the tips !!!!! 👌😀😁
I did not get it but the way he teached it was great
I've been looking for a real tutorial on backhandsprings for years and yours is the only helpful one
It was the same for me
this is very helpful it's in detail and longer than other tutorials it helps you to get into a back hand spring much quicker than other tutorials
Ok its 22:14 a clock but I will try, its looks easy. Thats what I say every time.. 😪 😂
just a note don't sit too low when you do your squat, and when you jump back push your hips upward.
This was the most helpfull tutorial what i watched, thank you so much! I didnt even know about my mistakes, beacuse all tutorials didnt say anything about some things, but you did it, today i will try my best to make it perfect thanks!
This is a very helpful technique out of all the videos I have watched and I am just about ready to try my backhandspring on my matress
First step: Get some foam mats! And no, carpet doesn't count.
A tumbling mat/ gymnastics mat is also recommended
this rly helped me I'm going to try tomorrow but I'm still a little scared
Londyn Simmons don't worry if you know what to do like if you watch totouriuls then there's a small chance of getting hurt
This channel should have more subscribers! You guys are great, keep up the good work.
I used an exercise ball to help me get my back handspring in the yard. It helped a lot.
Is it just me that was hoping the mat would fly into the pool when he jumped on it? Im sorry it sounds bad, this is really helping me with my BHS but I just found the thought hilarious, nothing personal. I would laugh if it happened to any1 even me :)
U are dog is cute
Omg yes
Same lol
Why you guys are so good? :) (Y)
One of the most helpful videos
Best Tutorial so far! Really hope it helps ! I am going to try it tomorrow because right now it’s 11 p.m
My luck at 9:55 I would slide off the mat and into the water 😂
I just end up doing a backhand spring stepout
Same!
I can do both🙃 but that's what I usually do
Rashae Alexis how can u help me??
Ugh lucky I have my bhs but idk how to do my bhs step-out
At least it’s something! I’m scared to go back
This is Honestly THE BEST BACK HAND SPRING TUTORIAL I HAVE EVER SEEN 🌸🌸❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks a lot! This video was super helpful. I look forward to attempting my first back handspring on trampoline tomorrow. Wish me luck!
I love to work on my body but I still have a hard time burning my belly fat can you give more fat burning exercise or give advice
+Shadow Walker Yes, we'll definitely be sharing some videos for this in the near future!
You can't "burn your belly fat" all you can do is reduce your calorie intake and try to exercise as much as possible. You can't specifically target your belly fat and it will probably be the last area that loses fat. You just gotta be patient.
+Levi Halperin I drink protein shakes and eat six small meals a day and do full body workouts M,W,F,S,Sat for the past 6 mouths. So please tell me what I'm doing wrong
the only way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit. Meaning than you need to burn more calories than you eat. So even if you are eating a healthy diet you wont lose weight as long as you eat more calories as you lose. The best thing to do is figure out how much calorie you burn in a day and reduce the calories you consume to be about 100-200 calories than you burn. Just make sure you eat plenty of nutrient rich foods so that your body has what it need to maintain itself (other than sufficient energy, for which it wiil need to burn fat). If you do that you will be able to slowly lose weight while maintaining your strength and muscle and after a few months you will see notable differences . The main thing is to be patient. Dont get to caught up with trying to rush to lose as much weight as possible, take it slow and enjoy life while maintaining a good diet and workout routine and the fat will slowly go away.
+Levi Halperin Thanks I will start calculating my calorie intake, but just saying 6 months is more then plenty of time. Nevertheless I never thought about calorie intake thanks again for the great advice
I got my ROUNDOFF back handspring before my standing backhandspring
Charli Bockelman most people do I guess its a just easier

I like the tip about gradually turning your cartwheel (which I CAN do) into your back handspring (which I currently can't)! thanks!
This is the best tutorial on doing ur bhs on yt OMG I JUST DID MY BHS THNAKS TO UR VIDEO! THANK UUUUUU
Hey tapp bros, I've been doing parkour for almost a year and I'm not sure what to learn, I have a lot to lead but I'm not sure what to learn in what order. Could you possibly make a video about what you should learn depending on what you have down? Like a video talking about furthering yourself starting from a beginner to an advanced. I think that would literally be the best video for parkour. I would love it if you made something like that :D
+Tactical Mischief yea that's a good idea, I still gotta work on upper body strength and also at least a front flip lol. Mainly upper body. I just feel like when I train, I don't have a priority, so I end up doing the same things like vaults. But I would like to go into training with a goal to accomplish, and I can't work on paper body too much because of where i train.
***** Thanks! I do that to an extent but not with all of the things I have been doing. When I first trying a kong vault, it took me about 3 to 4 months before I could even accomplish it, but then about 2 months later I could do it with ease, even when I would get tired. But I have pretty much every vault down (speed, safety, kong, dash, kash, etc.) so now I want to get into flips. But it's hard to do that because I usually train by myself and I feel like it's not smart to try flipping alone.
***** Yea, I've googled parkour gyms and everything like that and the closest one to me is like at least 30 minutes away which doesn't sound like a big deal but I have to rely on other people to take me because I don't have my driver's license yet. And I've watched at least two hours worth of flip tutorials but no matter how much I've watched, I still shouldn't try it by myself lol. It's one of those things where I know that I can do it, it's just one of those fear factors in the back of my head that says no. haha
+Marchi Dude i do parkour and i dont have a parkour gim for 5-6 hours away i learnt street ways
title: how to do a handspring in 4 steps WITHOUT a spotter him: next you want a spotter
I guess it doesn’t count if your spotter is you?
Love your long detalied videos. Thanks for all of them! Hope You guys will soon get more then 200 k subscribers.
thank you so much for the tutorial Tapps! I've always been going over side ways but with this technique my form will greatly improve. I also have a twin interested in parkour just as me, hopefully one day we'll get so good we could meet up with you guys. :)
Meanwhile i sit on my bed with a bag of chips 😂
@TappBrothers I really appreciate your tutorial, but at 16:57 you squat more than 90 degree and while jumping back you threw your head first...but if we leave that part really a good tutorial
that is so cool, i'm a french freerunning beginner and i do gymnastics but they didn't teach me how to do the back handspring so i thank you really much guys i hope you gonna do some other tutorials like that they're so cool, and i hope you can do a tutorial on the cork screw or only on the cheat gainer! :)

Bart H try to put your hands behind your ears, that's what helped me :) ps this reply is 8 months late but hope it helps.
Bart H just lock your arms out but be carful
Don't bend your arms
Bart H lock your arms, make your arms stronger
